I had a similar experience where me and my friend at the time were wrestling in a kiddie pool and my friend puts me on the floor underwater and sits down on me so I can’t get up and my head is stuck underwater, and instead of getting up after a few seconds he just sits there! eventually it took an adrenaline rush for me to push him off and from that day onwards I was no longer friends with him.

As a lifeguard, that seems like normal drowning behaviour. Same reason why we're trained to throw something first, and if that doesn't work, go feet first and if necessary kick them back or out cold to get them out. Though that second part might be outdated, just something my dad told me when he was trained as a lifeguard while I was training. And if those guards weren't doing anything those have got to be some pretty bad guards, since they should have been scanning nonstop especially on a field trip. Good video!

Once my aunt took me to a inside water park, there was this big slide and I was like 7, I decided I'd go down it, it had no roof and it went to the ceiling. I went down and I hit a bump and I launched up into the sky, almost touching the ceiling and luckily I didn't fall out of the slide. I never went on the slide again and I can't ever go on an open roof slide because I'm still afraid of falling out of one 😂

For everyone's info: Ben was probably having a panic attack, and that's a very usual way of acting under one when you're going to drown. Paralysed by fear yet hanging onto whoever/whatever you find around with the force of a thousand suns. In case you also find an incompetent lifeguard, the correct way to approach Ben to get him out of that situation is from the back so he can't do that to you, then putting their arms over their chest in a cross pattern while swimmming backwards with your legs, Glad you both made it out alive!

This happened to me once when I was a kid. We were on swimming lessons, it was the first day, a friend of mine didn't know how to swim but for some reason decided it was a good idea to go to the deep part of the pool. As soon as she realized she couldn't touch the floor with her feet anymore she jumped over me and the teacher had to get into the pool to take her out so I could swim away. Literally the worst 30 o so seconds of my whole life.

Girl I had met at the pool and I were enjoying ourselves before she suddenly jumped on my back and I went underwater, and it took several tries of getting my head above water before I could finally tell her to get off until we got to shallower water. How I almost died: Got poison in my blood from my appendix bursting when I was 5. One my live to my parents they knew something was up and they immediately got me to the hospital. The doctors, nurses & suregeons were all very great. Couldn’t have done it without the, or I wouldn’t be here if I just kept sleeping for like 3 more hours. Love the people in your community that volunteer for this kind of work, Fire Department, Police & Paramedics are the reason that our civilisations stay like it is and keep it from breaking out into full out anarchy. Nah, that's nothing. I almost drowned in a lazy river. I had a floating around my waste and it was too tight. I tipped over and I was stuck in place with my head underwater. No one noticed for a good 30 seconds until my sister pulled me up. The Ben in my story was a flippin' floaty.

My case was probably more extreme, and it was at the beach. I was swimming in the water with my dad and brother and it was not long before someone warned us about the rip current that we just so happened to stumble into. I tried to swim back towards the shore but I had FATIGUE, and I was submerged underneath the water. It nearly knocked me out but I eventually made it and there was a lifeguard there.
