Serena is never more thrilling than when she is up against an opponent who is playing her best while Serena is playing poorly. You can see it happen; there is always a moment in which you see her frustrated & struggling........and then Serena the champion, the GOAT, the physically, emotionally, and mentally commanding Tennis Amazon rises, refusing to quit, determined to destroy even the most stacked odds. It is a fierce, humbling, and awe inspiring thing to see because it often occurs literally in between the last volley played and the next one to come. Her spirit visibly rises, after which Serena pretty much turns into Wonder Woman and crushes everything in front of her.

I look at the young players today and they look for the motivation of the crowds not realizing that once you reach the pinnacle of excellence that same crowd that cheered for you will now crucify you. What made Serena, Roger, Nadal and Novak great is that they believe more in themselves than the crowd.

She has recently Become A Mother and she has not dedicated herself to rapidly return to the Athlete she was but she is coming back as she showed in Australia 2021. She threw the match against Naomi away after leading 2-0; but she will soon resolve that issue; the stumbling Block, that wall. She did the same against Sharapova who in my observation and historically actually plays better than Osaka!!!

Australian tennis player Margaret Court. She won 64 Grand Slam events (24 singles, 19 doubles, 21 mixed doubles), which is a record for a male or female player. Her 24 Grand Slam singles titles and 21 in mixed doubles are also all-time records for both sexes. She achieved a career Grand Slam in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. She is one of three women to have achieved the calendar year Grand Slam in singles (alongside Steffi Graf and Maureen Connolly), and is the only woman to have achieved the mixed doubles Grand Slam, which she did twice. Court won more than half of the Grand Slam singles tournaments she played (24 of 47). She won 192 singles titles before and after the Open Era, an all-time record.[1] Her career singles win-loss record was 1,177-106, for a winning percentage of 91.74 percent on all surfaces (hard, clay, grass, carpet), is also an all-time record. She won at least 100 singles matches in 1965 (113-8), 1968 (107-12), 1969 (104-6),[2] 1970 (110-6),[3] and 1973 (108-6).[4] She won more than 80 percent of her singles matches against top 10 players (297-73) and was the year-end top ranked player seven times.

Looking back on this video again, I can obviously admire Serena’s fight again (which I did), but also I had a different thought. This had to be the greatest thrill that Watson had, even though she lost. She was an unseeded player playing in her home slam, on Centre Court, against a then-5 time Wimbledon champion and current number one, AND having won the last 3 slams!!! I know for me, win or lose, having this experience to have Rafa or Roger on the ropes on Arthur Ashe would be incredible! I hope Heather thinks the same for this match!

You are soooo wrong. Watson (unseeded)was playing infront of a home crowd. They were rooting for her but at the same time rude and disrespectful to Serena. That's why Serena answered them. Your gaslighting bullsh*t is so lame. Rewatch, see and enjoy Serena's greatness.

Serena and Novak are built different. And that's why they're the GOATs.

Just the sound of the ball coming out of Serena’s racquet compare to Watson!

No shade to Heather, but anyone notice how she never played as well again after this match?

This was not a bad crowd. It was a crowd watching their homegrown underdog go up against the goat. I agree that Serena was amazing to overcome that energy though.

The crowd were supporting the British player. I don't think it was racially motivated. Also Heather Watson is mixed race...

a lot of Serena fans won’t applaud Tomljanovic for beating Serena against the crowd. She had the entire crowd for her on home ground and because it was her final tournament yet Ajla stayed mentally strong. It’s the exact same situation roles reversed.

I’m going with Steffi, the Real Grand Slam!

Im going to say that she is the greatest to date but of all time there are plenty of arguments against and that she is the greatest of her era and holds the mantle of the apex player of the past 20 years. there still has never been anyone as dominant as steffi graf was who remained the number 1 player for virtually 5 years consecutively and winning the golden slam which records has never been broken, she was the apex of her generation too. GOAT? I think we use the wrong term for both men and womens it should be known as who the APEX is

It is best to let the opponent beat you...sometimes Serena defeats herself wuth so many unforced errors.
