The Day The World Went Wrong Trailer

It's DEAD, lets just get that out of the way.
This is an old machinima project that I worked on as part of my A level media studies course, as with so many of my projects I got overambitious and the scope of this film quickly outgrew my ability to actually finish it. In order to finish the film to the standards I set for myself I would have to create so many new assets, models, textures and animation that it would be like making a full conversion mod for Half Life 2.
It's made me realise that a machinima film only really works if there is a good reason for using a game engine to tell your story, I chose the source engine because of the facial animation and choreography which you can use to make characters perform, however a game like GTA IV would of been far better because most of the setting and assets are already there ready to be used.
In the end though the effort spent in transferring all this content to a game engine and then rendering it there is pointless because it would actually of been far easier and quicker to simply make the film in a dedicated 3D rendering program like Maya or Softimage, just making a rod for my own back.
The other major problems with the project were the characters and the storyline which if you hadn't guessed from the tone of the trailer was heavily inspired by the Matrix. The initial draft of the script which I was working to when I made this trailer was pretty basic and boring, the pacing was terrible and the characters had no personality whatsoever. There have been several revisions of the script since then but I still hadn't completely overcome these issues and I wasn't happy with the quality of the story, frankly if I was going to spend years working on piles of new content to fill this world then it wasn't going to be worth doing if the story behind it wasn't going actually entertain anyone so for those reasons I gave up on this project.
There are definitely good elements from the story which I may use in other projects but for the foreseeable future this film remains thoroughly dead.
