Having a toilet as a savespot is such an amazing design choice, on one side its where the character can think about what happened the past few hours, thus saving it in his memory, just like going to sleep. On the other side, having to quit the game all of a sudden but having to save real quick seems like the character has to go to the toilet really bad.

Yep. I think the original joke was falling asleep on the can, so loading a save is the player waking up.

To be fair with speed running mario 64 alot of techs are so simple you can use them in a mix of casual speedrun that's actually really enjoyable. I figured that could work with other games too.
