Asheboro is coming along well now. I love seeing the new businesses on sunset growing. It's became so quaint. I think we are finally growing and seeing better times. We all want to be able to take care of our families. No matter what party you vote for.

And yet they can't be bothered to fix the parking lots. Half of them are pot hole ridden and have narrow entrances. The rest are gravel. And none of them are easy to get into because of the narrow roads.

Even if it was not mentioned in this report, five will get you 10 that most of those 5 million lost manufacturing jobs were replaced by service jobs that pay much less. You don't need to be a Harvard MBA to figure out that if an economy continues to replace it's manufacturing base, where most of high-paying jobs are, with lower-paying jobs, it's economy is going to eventually start to shrink. The only reason why that hasn't happened yet is because many people are living off credit or government assistance and that is helping to fill the gap somewhat. As Joseph Stiglitz said, America is becoming a rich nation with poor people. But how long is that going to last?

My father grew up down the road in Pittsboro and my best friends father grew up in Ramseur. They both used to tell us about working in the "mills" whether it be hosiery or brick. They both married and moved to Raleigh where we were born and raised. I remember driving through the small towns along US64 and it hit hard how dead they were not even an hours drive away from 4 major metropolitan areas in North Carolina......

Its like people and jobs have abandoned these small towns with not a lot to offer for close by towns that were just in the right random location, and have grown exponentially that are now big cities. EVERYONE in NC lives in either Raleigh, Greensboro, Charlotte, or around Asheville, unless they are in college, military, farming, or on vacation/retired... Everyone else lives in some small has been town working a crappy job just barely existing cause its all they know or have... These days when people turn of age, they usually try and abandon these small towns for better dreams, not hang around and just live to get by like people use to do...

It really ticks me off that this lie is still online. FORBES NEVER CAME HERE. They never called. They never did any current research. Instead, they pulled OLD NEWS and used it as current. Many of us called FORBES to try and talk with the writer, but we had little success. PLEASE do NOT refer to this video as the current situation. Asheboro is THRIVING. We have a wonderful, booming downtown with locally-owned shops and restaurants. We have been rewarded as a Main Street city and an All-American City. Life here is good. Businesses are coming here, including TOYOTA, who recently announced a major commitment with 1,700 jobs. So please please please - do not put any value into this video. I know people who are and it is wrong. The video is wrong. I love Asheboro and am very pleased about how much we have grown. I have lived in other places and I love calling Asheboro home.
