A loyalist Dusk Raider company, made up of surviving Old Albian veterans and the initiates hastily created during the Heresy, would make for an interesting army to build on the tabletop. I had started making an army just like this several years ago. The plan was to make an army of loyalist betrayed at istvaan, a mix of the 4 traitor legions but mostly of death guard who have started repainting their armour to that of the dusk raiders. I was also using the, at the time, new 40K death guard models, cleaned up to add more variation in the troops. Mortartion failed and the emperor had to pick up his slack. the emperor pushed mortarion into a fight he was not ready nor prepared for and tricked him into servitut again... the emperor keep the existence of demons a secret plus mortarion hated magic because that was what kept him and his people under control .. so there was really no motivation for him to use magic ... and the mortarion from the beginning of the crusade is not the same person as the mortarion who created The Plague Planet ... by that time he was a daemon primarch and was completely corrupted...

Like, it feels like two different stories slapped together, and either story would be great, on its own, but both just bring the whole thing down. Morty's antifascist stance reflected in the dusk raiders traditions is an interesting concept when the universe is inherently tyrannical, but then suddenly Nurgle and that whole subplot and tone gets lost.
