Ayman al-Zawahiri, the deputy to Osama bin Laden on 9/11 and Al Qaeda's number two leader, was killed in a CIA drone strike last Saturday in Kabul. The Egyptian-born terrorist played a key role in planning the terrorist attacks against the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, and the bombing of the USS Cole. While Zawahiri's influence within the global jihadist movement had diminished in recent years, his assassination by the United States represents an important symbolic victory in the fight against Al Qaeda.
Join us to discuss the significance of the drone strike against Zawahiri, and what it means for Washington's global counter-terrorism strategy.
