Closing statements got me feeling some type of way on this one. Oversized Tuggnado you do nostalgia right. These days, I am generally averse to the cheap shots that are pieces of content leaning on appealing to nostalgia. It usually feels pandering and slimy. But the kid nails it. The genuine affinity that you have for these things, and the obvious and direct impact that they had on you reads exactly like what it truly is. Genuine appreciation and fondness. I f*ck with your “look back” videos heavy. I have AN INSANE amount of the best memories ever that orbit around some element of cable. I remember for my birthday one year, I got my own phone line. It was the same year I had a “serious” girlfriend for the first time… And when I thought that was the pinnacle, the very next year shat upon that gift. My step dad ran a coaxial line into my room and I went from 3 channel gang to f*ckin… a world of television at my grubby little fingertips. Anyway… This video absolutely reminded me of that day, among many other rad ones Thanks dude

I feel like HBO should count more as the first signal as a death to cable more so than cable itself. You already had to purchase it separate from a cable package and had shows and movies, it just wasn't on demand like streaming was.

Cable TV's biggest downfall was then they started having commercial breaks every 5 minutes within a show. That's why streaming became so appealing. No commercial breaks and you could pause the episode whenever you wanted. Yeah Time Warner implemented that as well many years prior and recording your shows for later use was more convenient but with the increased volumes of commercials is what killed it (but no streaming services are doing the same with ads)

I used to think people with cable were rich. In my family we had laptop that was dated even back then that we had to place on a cookie tray with a fan under it to stop it from overheating, playing a DVD from either redbox or Netflix when they used to send you DVD's in the mail, hooked up to an old hand me down tv without a sound bar and that was our movie night

I’m definitely tired of this crap… I tell my son we use to watch tv for free and now poor thing wants to watch a basketball game and all these subscriptions make it hard to do so… cable kept going up so you figure you get a subscription so you could watch what you want but even with that, they lock it behind a premium price so you could watch your shows… I hate it… it’s all greed and people are getting sick of it.

The reason Cable TV (and TV in general) was so good back in the day is because we would use that for our socialisation. We would watch our favourite shows, then go into school the next day to talk about what we watched. The reason I think TV died now is because there isn't really that FOMO that TV causes because you can just catch up with it again and so there's not really as much of an interest in larger TV series. FOMO now is much more short. There's not really TV Shows that grab people's consciousness throughout their whole run time and people are more swayed by the new, rather than keeping their attention to one show through the whole season. FOMO comes in spurts now and is changing all the time, where before FOMO was more about making sure you got home as soon as possible to catch the latest episode of your favourite TV show.
