Ma’am you are so right with that analysis of the scene. It’s seems that Michelle Pheiffer take on the character was someone trying to find their place in the world around her. So when she found someone who is just as odd, twisted and yet interesting as she is, she doesn’t want believe it could be true or doesn’t want it to be true because that may lead to more of a heart break that she’s not ready to endure. As a young kid when I saw this scene and I didn’t understand it for its complexity and yet all these years later it’s scary how real her performance here makes you relate to her character and the great many people out there who are fighting to fine their own happily ever after.

Fun fact: The scene where Selina kisses Max while electrocuting him was supposed to set up a third movie where Two-Face was the main villain. Basically, the Max Shrek character was originally supposed to be Harvey Dent, but they had to change the character... not sure why, can't remember... but the electric burn was supposed be how Harvey became Two-Face.
@Deathlygunn4 жыл бұрын
They had to change the character because Billy Dee Williams, who had played Harvey Dent in Batman '89 was unavailable to reprise the role for Batman Returns, so Max Shreck was created instead.

@@Deathlygunn thanks, i wasn't clear on why the character was changed. i knew i had heard why before, but that tidbit escaped me. that's a shame, though. If that version of the trilogy could've been completed, it could've been awesome.
@ETH56263 жыл бұрын
@@devoncrestway338 It's not that Billy Dee Williams was unavailable, he said he only signed for one Batman Movie but he never signed a 2 picture deal as he did with star wars. I mean he said that he "Wanted desperately to do Two-Face" And "Was hoping his role in Batman 89 would segway into that". So much for his so-called desperation. By Returns, Burton moved on from Two-Face altogether despite another myth that Harvey was the one to get the scars from Selina at the ending of Returns, Daniel Waters recently confirmed none of the drafts had Harvey become Two-Face at all. Waters only said he wrote a small cameo of Dent flipping a coin and that was it. So please enough of that false info on Dent becoming Two-Face in Returns based on little to no evidence whatsoever.

Even though I like Burton's Batman, isn't this scene a bit hypocritical for this version of Batman? I mean isn't this the same Batman who killed the Joker in the first movie out of revenge? Hell he even killed the Penguin just before this scene, and earlier in the film burnt and blew up some of his henchmen for terrorizing the city. Keaton's Batman seems to have no problem at all with killing bad guys and even seems to enjoy it at times, and yet here he's lecturing Catwoman for trying to kill a bad guy out of revenge.
@jrcarter91754 жыл бұрын
One could look at it as him not wanting to see someone go down the same road that he went.
@unknownyoutuber24074 жыл бұрын
Batman didn't exactly know why Catwoman wanted to kill Max Shrek. He also didn't know the extent of Max's crimes. Most of the bad guys that Burton's Batman killed were either dangerous criminals terrorizing Gotham or the main villains.

@@Eluudie Save who? The Joker? Batman killed him out of revenge. He literally told the Joker "I'm going to kill you" before beating the shit out of him. He literally blew up the Penguin's strongman earlier in the film and grinned while doing so.

@Niju _ Batman’s change of expressions make you think he wants to kill him but deep down he knows he can’t after all he’s done. (Not talking about the games where they made Batman kill Joker) but in the films you can he wants to but can’t. Also I’m referring to the 1989.

The Batman let's talk about the writing for a moment. Keaton is just Batman. We have no idea why. We don't know his motivations. He's just a hero with no backround except "it's just something he has to do". Batman Begins actually spends an hour to set up his motivations and why he wants to fight crime. He actually has a no killing rule unlike Keaton. It's pretty obvious that Tim Burton cares more about cinematography than the essence of Batman. You're allowed to like Keaton more, but Bale just captures the essence of Batman more and has more depth. "You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain." "It's not who I am underneath, but I do that defines me" "A hero can be anyone, like a man putting on a coat on a young boy's shoulders and telling him that the world hadn't ended yet"
