Not only is this scene epic, but it's also heartbreaking. The despair in her scream. Her throwing away her childlike innocence and shattered dreams of fairy tale romance is something very relatable. In a world as ruthless and cruel as ours, sensitive souls like hers hardly belong.

I mean, yea. She was literally about to be raped and was pushed out a 50 story window. I’d imagine she was heartbroken and pissed. And she wasn’t a sensitive soul. This was lying in her her entire life. It’s took Max’s assault to finally break her. There are multiple clues to how deranged she is before this scene.

I love the calm demeanor but chaotic actions as she was walking around her house. Turning on the lamp but the lamp fell over. Getting milk for her cats but spilling it everywhere. Drinking the milk straight from the carton and it spilled onto her dress. But her face looked calm, collected. Such a great way to portray how a character is tearing at the seams internally but still clinging onto a semblance of normalcy for her own sake.
@twnyc3129 Жыл бұрын
These are the details that people don’t seem to appreciate, especially the Nolan fans. Anyone can make a reality based movie. It’s much more challenging to make a fun comic book movie that’s executed well. No one comes close to this portrayal of Catwoman. I love the character but I can’t seem to care about Anne or Zoe’s versions. Anne was basically Batgirl and Zoe had no chemistry w Batman. They were both ultimately so useless in their movies too.

2:02 is brilliant and utterly terrifying because not only has she been resurrected, but the fact she has finally had enough of being life's punching bag of everyone's physical and emotional abuse and to rid herself of her past. From having been a quiet, soft spoken and down trodden lady to becoming a vengeful, confident and sociopathic badass! Which I love!❤️

Being sociopathic is hardly something to aspire to. She’s an interesting character sure, and the scene is great - but she’s no hero. A true hero transcends their abuse - giving into to go on a rampage is a sign of weakness.

Selina is the true tragic villain in this movie. She didn't deserve what happened to her or what she became. Penguins story is sad considering what his parents did to him. But he chose to be corrupt. Selina's mind was broken when Max tried to kill her. I don't think she exactly chose this. The damage to her mind caused it.

My heart breaks every time i watch this scene; its the loss of innocence through the cruelty of others. Also notice how in all 3 "deaths" catwoman has she's pushed or dropped from a height (max pushes her out a window, Batman punches her off a building, she drops from a height on penguins umbrella), and in all 3 situations it shifts who Selina/Catwoman is. She seemingly survives each fall almost miraculously like a cat would. I'm 33 years old and remember this film from my childhood. The more I watch it the more I see layers to it I never seen before. A masterpiece.

Lots of symbolism in this scene. Being pushed off the rooftop is her fall from grace. She comes back to life, but turns into something completely different, something she never imagine. All that she was has died. The light pink of her apartment represents repressed femininity, it's also very doll like and innocent like her. Her Hello There sign becoming "Hell Here" representing that hell will be raised. The costume itself is symbolical, with the stitches representing her having been broken/torn apart/damaged, and now she's sowing herself back up into something dark, menacing, and seductive. When the costume starts to tear later on in the film, that's her slowly coming undone again.

I rewatched this movie recently and noticed something I hadn't before. Around the halfway point, after she's teamed up with the Penguin to get rid of Batman, she's out during the day as Selina and staring at her reflection in a store window, and she says to herself, "Why are you doing this?" And there's a dollhouse display in the window. I thought it was an interesting, subtle character moment, and if you blink you might miss it (like I did for 30 years).

"What is fascinating about the Douglas character, as written and played, is the core of sadness in his soul. Yes, by the time we meet him, he has gone over the edge. But there is no exhilaration in his rampage, no release. He seems weary and confused, and in his actions he unconsciously follows scripts that he may have learned from the movies, or on the news..." - Roger Ebert, from his review of "Falling Down" These words describe what makes Tim Burton and Michelle Pfeiffer's treatment of Catwoman so unique. In most other incarnations she is an amoral thief who's at peace with what she does, but Pfeiffer's Selina is badly broken, and even her most exuberant behavior is a cover for how confused and angry she is. She plays up a hidden part of her personality, but she has no idea how to stop, or what she would do if she did stop. In hindsight, her character arc makes the film much less cartoonish and much more tragic.

Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance in this movie was amazing! She brought so much nuance and raw emotional power to the character. This scene is a perfect example, where she says so much with barely any dialogue. Too bad most people these days only seem to remember her for her costume (which was awesome, don’t get me wrong), when there was so much more to her. Best Catwoman ever!

There are so many reasons why Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman is the best one of all the Batman films! The main reason (for me) was all in this scene. In all the other Catwomans played by Julie Newmar and Anne Hathaway, you already see them as Catwoman. In this film, you see Selina Kyle before she became Cat Woman, her death as "Selina Kyle" and her rebirth as Catwoman. That alone gives both the scene and the character of Catwoman so much more chemistry and relatability to the audience than just her amazing suit and look of Catwoman!
