_”All of this exists, because of me. If I don’t innovate, somebody else will. You are acting like we are engaged in some sort of mad science but we are doing what we have done from the very beginning. NOTHING in Jurassic World is natural, we have ALWAYS filled gaps in the genome with the DNA of other animals, and, IF their genetic code was pure, many of them would look quite different but YOU didn’t ask for reality YOU ASKED FOR MORE TEETH.”_ - Wu I love this character so much, the way he talks is simultaneously serious yet so calm. If he dies in the next movie, he better go out in a memorable way.

Henry Wu learned the hard way why Deinonychus means “Terrible Claw.”
@joshuastrittmatter4188
@joshuastrittmatter4188 5 жыл бұрын
Nope. It’s a Deinonychus, just being incorrectly referred to as a Velociraptor, because the characters in Jurassic Park can be quite stupid. Even in the book, they acknowledge that it’s Deinonychus, but prefer to call it Velociraptor because at the time this book (and subsequently the first movie) was made, certain scientists were arguing that Deinonychus was regarded as another species of Velociraptor. However, by the time “The Lost World” has been released, that argument had proven untrue and Deinonychus was reinstated as a genus in its own right. But even still, the movie characters keep calling them Velociraptors because A: The movie creators don’t give a fuck at all anymore. B: the movie characters are stupid. Even the so-called ‘paleontologists’ don’t get it right.
@mphylo2296
@mphylo2296 5 жыл бұрын
@@joshuastrittmatter4188 They called them Velociraptors in the books and films because Crichton thought Deinonychus wasn't an intimidating enough name. That's the real reason. In JP canon, Velociraptors and Deinonychus are the same thing.

@@joshuastrittmatter4188 Congratulations for proving you never read the books. If you had you'd know that Wu admits the animals aren't true dinosaurs and may have been completely different in reality. He wanted to go to the next version and slow them down because they were so fast he feared visitors wouldn't believe them real. This is referenced in his 'more teeth' speech in Jurassic World. He knew from the beginning they were bound to have inaccuracies, Crichton literally wrote it that way on purpose, most likely as a way to apologise for any inaccuracies in his descriptions of the animals. The book deals with science that will probably never be possible, so of course any fictional representation of it will more than likely have issues under the microscope. Tl;dr stop bitching about a movie from 26 fucking years ago and grow up already.

Ellie's reaction to Wu shouting to her always frustrated me. Like, even if you were actually safe behind the fence (and there weren't raptors on the roof about the ambush you), you should still be able to tell, from the tone of Wu's voice, that something seriously important and urgent is happening and that you should just listen to him and do what he says.

His character serves as a personification of the opening quote in this video that is a central theme of the novel. Wu had great knowledge, but he lacked wisdom in applying it. That knowledge and passion for his work gave him power but he lacked the humility to recognize that he is an imperfect human and this power is greater than him. He was so focused on using that power and knowledge that he did not consider others and what was best for them this lacking charity. Science, passion, knowledge absent humility, charity, and wisdom leads to bad things. I was going to say I wouldn't consider Wu evil, but writing this, we have lost this in the modern world. When we act without humility, charity, wisdom we are the baddies.

To be honest, this was the moment in the book that made me go "Come on, Elly!" Like, there are killer dinosaurs on the loose and someone screams at you to get inside and what's her response? Not, "What's wrong?" or immediately zip inside, but instead to go "Everything's fine! I know what I'm doing!" and not move. I mean, Wu wasn't exactly being super clear what was going on either, but if someone was screaming at me to get inside I think I would at least ask what's wrong.

I'm reminded of a 1993 speech and Q&A Cricthon gave. (C-SPAN still has the video online), nominally about poor quality control and trust as related to journalists and mass media. At the end, he was asked if, given that his book took a cautionary tone regarding relatively low-capital genetic manipulation, would the upcoming JP film send the same message. Paraphrasing, he said the Spielberg film was unlikely to make people afraid of genetic technologies, but might make people afraid of dinosaurs, and as far as anyone is afraid of dinosaurs, they're on their own. :)

RavnDream Its funny you point to the T Rex visual acuity. It's all bullshit. Crichton made a comparison to Amphibians in the first book with Grant then retconned it in Lost World anyway. Levine explicitly disproves the theory as garbage. It was a flimsy explanation the first time around in explanation anyway the movie just kept it simple, which is a lot of the reason the movie stayed superior.
@Connor8609
@Connor8609 6 жыл бұрын
RavnDream See this is all extraneous in the book. In the movie it's a simple rule to follow that scientist theorized that about the T Rex since he knew about before the island. If you nit pick this you can just tear apart the actual laid out science in the book and subsequently the movie in terms of growing a dinosaur. It's just kind of makes the viewer assume all the myriad of stuff they gloss over can be compensated by other elements of science unseen. I kind of just applied that logic to the book and movie. The books structured plot is not nearly as tight or exciting.The island being a cheap disaster before it ever began cheapens it in my eyes.

And after all that, they threw away all of that potential in Dominion to give an arrogant, brilliantly written character a stupid, out of nowhere redemption arc, and rob him of a death that would have paid tribute to Michael Chrichton's masterpiece one last time.

Yes i was expecting too that Wu would die in Dominion by the Hands of a Dilophosaurus, Velociraptor, Giganotusaurus, T-Rex, Mosasaurus or even Maybe something like a Death by a Quetzalcoatlus But that doesnt mean we will never get his Death in a movie, dont forget that they said that there are more Movies coming that means More Sequels and Possible a Prequel too so we could in a New Movie See how He is Dying by the claws of a group of Velociraptors in a Jurassic world 4/Jurassic Park 7 and Look on the bright side, Wu being Alive means more Hybrids ^^

I could have just interpreted it differently or incorrectly but I didn't see Wu's death being tied to his arrogance, I think after Hammond had essentially cast him aside, he needed the validation that he had in fact created accurate representations of dinosaurs. He's definitely much more sympathetic in the book, kinda like Hammond they changed his character around completely

First off it would be a great excuse for more dino fights, and secondly, it would be a really unique path for them to go into the sci-fi elements of the series more. The sci-fi stuff was always great to me. My other personal idea would be to have something of a "Jurassic post-apocalypse" watching humanity have to truly re-learn how to live with these creatures using remnants of the past (our present) while no longer being on the top of the food chain. Think "The Walking Dead" meets Jurassic Park, that's what I really want to see, with the "Jurassic World War" being the story that brought the world to the post-apocalypse we'd find it in.

I love Boku No Pico Wouldn't that be interesting? Although the struggles of the experience could actually prove a comedy. "My afternoon had yet again found its pleasure to exploring along the river. And although my prior experience with the small pinkish mammal had proven less than favorable, I chose to pursue these smaller ones still. I chased them towards what I assumed a corner when they suddenly, and very literally, vanished. Imagine my surprise. I took this as effect of my tiredness at the time given I could feel myself, despite my well sleep the night prior very well, and simply moved to attempting to sniff them out. This near a cascade of water was rather difficult, but I pride myself to let you know, I picked up the scent. Somehow they'd hidden behind the cascade itself and, hunger encouraged curiosity, I pushed my muzzle through. The water a pleasant sensation. Now the space was rather small and permitted little of myself beyond my muzzle, so I opted to make use of my tongue and sought my prize: and lo! I found one! A morsel to be sure. But as I've come to learn anything gotten is good nonetheless. Using dexterity I'd not used before, I pulled the morsel towards myself- However, I did not manage my snack. As despite all efforts and regardless of the cooling cascade, I found my tired drunkenness finally give way and I awoke hours later in a daze."

The novels are ahead of the films, all of them. It goes downhill markedly once they try to combine the second novel's Harding and Levine characters into the film's Harding, and then Spielberg decides that he'd really like to make a kaiju film but will have to make do with the IP at hand. ;) I'm still sore about the lack of any LW adaptation of the carnotaurus sequence from the second book, though Bayona's sly misdirection late in JWFK referencing that scene was simultaneously frustrating and endearing.

I disliked the T-Rex in San Diego most, that fits in King Kong not jurassic park. The movies get worse and worse with every title. JP III it is clear the movie lacks a novel of chriton as basis. JW raptors as friends ore enemys which side dictates the script really no explanation and of course the idea that dinos aren't enough anymore so just throw one fantasy monster in pisses me off to no end. JW2, well i just lost all hope for the franchises the trailers showed they just stick with the two bad choices i mentioned before i hadn't see it in the cinema.
@theAsterisk

Eh. The cinematography in JWFK is good enough to merit watching it, provided you have some sort of a technical appreciation for film and filmmaking. I'm sold on Bayona now, and I don't particularly like horror. The writing is bad, though, just not JPIII bad, nor would I say even JW lukewarm. It's *alright*, just don't expect some masterwork screenplay. LW has some good lighting and camera work going for it, too, but again the writing disappoints acutely next to the source novel. Each movie past the first makes for a good drinking game, though: every time a death scene or action sequence is recycled from a (different, if watching LW) book lacking its original context, drinks for everyone. You can get absolutely hammered on JPIII.

@@theAsterisk i actually thought the scripts we're better for Jurassic world and Jp3, jwfk felt like it wasn't showing the glory of dinosaurs. Instead how horrible human interaction was but that was touched on much better and more clever in the lost world and one major thing is how the indoraptor was what I like to call a 5 minute villian, and should have had more screen time.overall jwfk doesn't capture the magic nearly as much as any of the other films.

Michael Crichton was one of the best writers in history in my opinion. Because even though you can't jump scare someone in a book, like you could have in a movie with Wu's death, when I read that he was torn open and they were eating his intestines, I jump scared. He was that good at writing thrillers. I knew something was gonna happen to him because whenever I read I strongly visualize it, so I saw him in the open and exposed, and I knew; In a movie, something would happen right about know, and then it did, but it still felt like it came out of nowhere. Absolute legend.

Man, what a great dramatic reading of his death! Awesome job, Klayton. :) Although I don't know if I agree with your characterisation of Dr. Wu. I'm currently reading the novel once again and he seemed more cautious and aware of the dangers he was helping to create - a fact of which he tried to convince Hammond a few times (to no avail). He even advised Hammond to scrap the current stock in favour of making more docile and domesticated (safer) dinosaurs. He might've come across a little arrogant and impatient during his initial meeting with the main scientists but I think that's understandable considering they were basically interrogating him (Malcolm especially!) and he was just trying to defend his work and the park. Just my opinion...

Henry stumbles and tries to run but all of the pack just follow and taunt him and then as he builds up all his courage and strength to sprint to the car one of the Raptors knocks him over and as he tries to get onto his knees he's pushed into the mud and moss and impaled in the back by a large curved sickle claw and then he grasps his fists and the camera fades away to the sound of him screaming and moaning as Raptors eat him while he's alive

I am very excited for Jurassic World 3. Fallen Kingdom blew me away and I have high expectations for this last installment. Especially with Trevorrow’s hopes to have Sam Neill and Laura Dern reprise their rolls in the franchise. It would be interesting to see Dr. Wu attacked by a Velociraptor and have it witnessed by Ellie similar to how it was described in the Original Novel, but getting Ellie anywhere near a Velociraptor would require some creative/believable writing since in Jurassic Park 3, she “Tries to forget” what the Raptors sound like. And also since Blue is the last of her kind and her DNA is tainted, I’m sure Dr. Wu still needs another source of Velociraptor DNA since there are apparently no more samples. The only thing I can think of to get more DNA, if Dr. Wu really needed it, would be to take trip to Isla Sorna and get some samples before the island gets destroyed by volcanic activity like Nublar. It would also be really interesting to see The Big One reborn, but more cleaver and more vicious. As if InGen had miraculously discovered surviving DNA from The Big One and used it to create a new pack of Raptors and because this new raptor is so smart, she would be the biggest threat of all and stalk Dr. Wu, like the Original Big One stalked Muldoon. Just some thoughts that were going through my head towards the end of the video. Thanks for creating this video, as well as sharing your passion of this franchise. Because of your videos, I have found a new love and appreciation for the franchise and you helped me fill in quite a few gaps in-between films and explain things I never noticed before. Thanks again. One last thought. I wouldn’t mind this last installment being a 2 part movie, just to get all the dino action we can get and fit in all these storylines we couldn’t get before and discover what happens to the dinosaurs sold at the auction. Can’t forget about the Mosasaur either. Definitely more screen-time, if not another dramatic opening. Unless the Mosasaur gets it’s own spin-off, Jaws style.

I hope they use this death in dominion. That would be the first time since the lost world they stuck to Michael Crichton’s original plan
