So, maybe it's the Army veteran in me but why in the everlovin' frig is the ilKhan walking the hull of a warship in a mech IN COMBAT? I get that the Clans take machismo to really ludicrous levels, but there's 'brave' and then there's 'too stupid to live'....

He wasn't. He died on the bridge, but eh it's a fairly common thing in Battletech for many leaders to go out and fight in their mechs and not even just the clans, the Inner Sphere boys do it too. Assault Mechs usually, but yeah it's rather stupid. Although to be said Assault Mechs are usually very damned durable: Like imagine a walking Iowa Class Battleship level of durability. Heck that Timber Wolf mech that got destroyed? It's pilot likely survived.

That's what war does. Kills a lot of people in very stupid ways. But this is 100% a lore accurate event, the pilot of that fighter was a named character in the lore.

It's lore accurate but it was stupid that the clans halted their invasion for a year to elect a new ilkhan back at the Clan homeworlds. That's like the Allies halting their liberation of Europe after after D-Day due to Eisenhower dying.

Well the class of warship does have lasers and anti-fighter missile systems, so they do. Thing is the forward defenses meant to protect the bridge were taken out early on in this cinematic as were a lot of the other weapon systems and you need a lot of firepower to take down a space fighter: For context it got hit by a quad of pulse lasers in this cinematic: Those can take down ASSAULT Mechs in the lore.

It’s a Star League era warship: in the lore they were designed around the assumption of mutual support and fighter screens in large fleets, so they sacrificed point defense for more big guns. The Dire Wolf only has a few missile launchers explicitly designed for anti-fighter support, so if someone slips through the fighter screen it doesn’t have much it can do to repel them.
