I personally think this is the moment Rough, Tumble, and Starline can't forgive. What would happen if Eggman grew up to be a gentle man like his grandfather, and if Eggman stood in Sonic's position as an ally of justice? Destroyed his wonderful answer, and even his memories and bond with his daughter... That the platypus was effectively killed by Eggman would be nothing but karma.

@@videogollumer It could have been possible that Eggman would have gotten his memories back from another powerful trigger, but before that would happen, the village he lived in would probably notice his kidnapping and send someone to save Mr. Tinker, most likely Sonic. Metal Sonic 100% was the trigger that restored Eggman’s memories, since his emotional memory at the time was most connected to him and nothing else was doing anything to spark it. In the scenario where he isn’t rescued though, Eggman might still have regained his memories without Metal Sonic, but it would have been an easier said than done job for Starline.

@@jenniferdaly6819 Tell me about it, he was getting no where. Heck! He accidentally did Mr. Tinker a favor! He made Mr. Tinker realize that he WAS Eggman. Because he had lost his memory, Mr. Tinker was blissfully unaware of the atrocities he committed as Eggman; thus, never got to repent of them. The problem with that is that while he couldn't remember, it didn't change the fact that he committed them and that there had to be justification for dropping the charges against him. If he repented of what he did, there would have been justification. By finding out he was Eggman, Mr. Tinker was able to regret his actions as Eggman and repent of them; thus he was truly exonerated of Eggman's crimes.

Wait wait, doesn't Eggman revert to Mr. Tinker after a while? I remember a comic where Starlight succeeds in bringing Eggman back, but Eggmans memories as Tinker remain and he decides to hang up the battleship so to speak.

Just imagine the world the IDWverse would be in if Shadow had more of a role and say in all of it. If he got rid of Mr. Tinker, would Belle have gone rogue like Surge? And possibly do something worse than the Zombots?

In that scenario, I don’t think Belle would have went rogue on Shadow, since she was programmed by Mr. Tinker to be a loving, peacekeeping robot, much like him before getting his memories back. She would have probably been completely heartbroken and been unfortunately lost on what to do next. She would hate Shadow’s guts, but that is about it on Belle’s actions in this alternate universe. If she did have the capacity to turn rogue, I only could see her targeting solely Shadow and maybe the rest of Team Dark, since Shadow would be in her mind the focal point of her misery. Belle would probably let Sonic off the hook considering he would have in this scenario tried to save her creator. I can’t see her doing any more vengeance-related things though besides maybe trying to off Shadow. It is just not usually in her nature to hurt others, unless they seriously hurt those she loves. Belle also isn’t really built for combat, with that kick reflex she has being her strongest defense, so it is very unlikely she would even stand a chance against Shadow unless she was upgraded like crazy.

Even though I kind of understand where Sonic was coming from when freeing Metal, (He has a no kill policy and believes in redemption,) it was 100% his fault for Eggman regaining his memories. If he hadn’t been so rash in his decision making and instead waited a bit longer so Metal Sonic could possibly be reprogrammed instead to be good, we wouldn’t have lost Mr. Tinker forever. (I don’t hate Sonic for this at all, but it definitely was not a great decision. The ripple effects from this one pacifistic choice created the Metal Virus, one of the worst things to ever happen in Sonic’s world. Even Sonic himself came to the conclusion his decision was not the right one by Issue 23, and was completely consumed by guilt over it.)

@@jenniferdaly6819 Meh, by Issue 32 he still regretted nothing. He let a fully evil Eggman get away, even thinking he MAY come around eventually. He learned NOTHING, and he may not until he finds out Metal Sonic's hand in it. What's ticking me off most is how long it's taking to GET to that part! I don't hate Sonic either; i'm just mad at him. His hubris is painful to behold, and I want him to be humbled for his betterment.

@@videogollumer If the writing team decided to dive deeper into Sonic’s guilt about accidentally allowing Eggman to rise back to power, it would make for an incredible storyline. He could be faced with strong internal conflict on how to handle future foes, especially Eggman, considering for the first time ever whether it is safer to keep them alive or kill them on the spot. It would give the character a lot of development and make any future conflicts with villains in the comic more suspenseful considering the audience would not know if Sonic would spare them in hopes of redemption or kill them for the greater good.
