@@ryapowa you said the same thing you were disputing! Yes, you shouldn't need that but he did exit with it instead of leaving it in the truck. The Biggest Question is why wasn't he nor his partner calling it in at the time of Smith trying to flee the scene of an accident? That gave the court system a lane of intent to do harm charges to sure up the conviction and override that dumb ass stand your ground law (which I keep trying to tell my people it wasn't made for us). Again if there were no guns in play would he still have stood his ground or naw? And I already know for those who know the youngman, more than likely you say he would still stand his ground without it. Then why bring the gun into play? Why out of all the witnesses around that were told to call them boys after the shooting, never saw Smith with nor flash a gun. Where I'm at that means that a drunk old man is on the verge of a severe beating until them boys show up. Just think with one decision how much different things would have gone. Smith jailed for driving under the influence and hit and run. But both men alive to raise their children, but black male seperation from the family unit has been a plan in effect for centuries!

There is stories of homeowners shooting burglers in the back as they ran away, after robbing them and the homeowner getting sentenced. Any person who carries a gun has to be prepared to defend their actions in court. And shooting someone whos back is turned is "No longer a threat to your life". Common sense and a cool head would result in a completely different story. I feel sad for the family, But they are not Victims.

@Gabe Gonzalez It's a law my dude. Even if a burglar is in your home, if he starts to run away you can't shoot him in the back, it's called a fleeing felon. You will get charged. People have to know the laws of the state they live in. The problem is people assume what the laws are.

Hey the attorney stated the law; witnesses say Will was the aggressor and he went to retrieve his gun, would have been better if he had waited for him to exit the vehicle with the gun then shot (if you couldn't leave the area) but the law state if you are in danger of losing your life at the hand of a person; you can shot to kill in self defense. That Louisiana law. Why should anyone have a problem with that if it's the law?!

Too many people are on this strand making excuses. In life we all have choices He chose to chase that vehicle down. Maybe he felt confident in chasing because he did have a gun. (decision number 1) He chose to ram the vehicle Maybe having gun gives you the confidence in doing so. (decision number 2) He chose to get out of the car brandishing the said firearm. (decision number 3) At each point, he chose to escalate. At each decision fueled by his toxic masculinity and the energy of his friend in the car he made a decision that cost him his freedom He chose to empty the clip into a stranger back ( decision number 4) This isnt football this isnt a game this was real life. His friend failed him that night a real friend would have said naw my dude lets just get the license and move on. I guess not wanting to be no punk makes you say come on let's get him. Welp, you got him................Now he's doing 25 and you on the outside heartbroken and a family on both sides is broken. 2 wrongs dont make a right and eye for an eye leaves us all blind. He murdered a man he's where he's supposed to be. In Prison. Its serious its real its whats happens when you make bad decisions. Prison is full of men who made poor decisions. We dont have time machines in real life we only get one life. That's why that extra beat you pause with is the difference between making a good decision or an impulsive decision. All this talk about how this man was not a violent person he's a good man. There are plenty of good men in prison who have committed murder. How you see him as a father a husband or son does not absolve him of his crime. You can still love a man who is flawed and who made a mistake folks.

@@TripleDTx214 There are a few flaws in the law in Louisiana if everyone in this video is claiming that self defense shooting laws allow for the use of force to "kill" an attacker. This is a systemic issue in the possession of a firearm without proper training and situational awareness. Proper training in the use of and possession of firearm and for self defense should always emphasize the defense in removing the "threat". When a law is written to emphasize that self defense is allowable to "kill" in a particular state, it now renders the jury to look at the shooting as "shoot to kill" as opposed to "shoot to eliminate the threat". So if it was one shot or two and he neutralized the threat, he might have been acquitted on self defense. Without proper understanding of the use of the firearm in self defense and cause and effect...which we see all too often with concealed carry (mind you I am concealed carry self defense advocate)...people cross over past the point of no return and in the heat of the moment it was too late! It was said once that you train and educate on the use of the firearm 99% so when you cross over to the 1% you have made every assessment and effort necessary before doing so. Sad because as a die hard Saints fan it was a sad day. As a human it was a sad day for this man because I don't believe he was a killer...but everything was stacked up against him the second he engaged a New Orleans Saint and unloaded most of his pistol's "magazine" into the back of a man. I feel for Cardell's mom/family. I believe the ppl in the barber shop when they say they knew him to be a good person. But 3 things bother me 1) When Smith hit and ran- that car bump was not serious enough to chase Smith down and violently hit the back of his car. This New Orleans. Why would u do that? 2) Smith was walking back to his car and was shot in the back at close range- 8 times. EIGHT. Times. That's not fear, that's anger. 3) He shot the wife. She saw him shoot her. He shot her. The F&%K why? This took a lot out of our city. Sharply divided. Prayers for all the families involved.

Did you watch the video? He didn’t shoot the wife, Smith did. They covered that up. As far as the initial accident, of course you go after the car that just hit your very expensive car and ran-I would. You are also forgetting that Smith was drunk off his ass and very aggressive to the point he went for his loaded gun where he accidentally shot his wife. I do agree with you about the eight shots though-very excessive.

1) After Cardell Hayes was hit. He then pursued Will Smith. He even hit Will Smith from behind too. Therefore this could have been avoided if Cardell Hayes simply followed and got the license plate number to give to the cops! 2) Though Hernandez and Will Smith were the aggressor. You put yourself in that situation by hitting them back with your car! 3) It looked like Cardell Hayes purposely slammed his breaks. You don't see any TRAFFIC or car in front of Cardell Haye vehicle. Will Smith passed him and you see that there is no cars in front of Cardell Hayes! 4) You're 6'6 280+ pounds and you have your friend there that can fight with you. Even though Hernandez escalated it by taking off his shirt. That meant it was going to be fight NOT a GUN BATTLE!! A FIGHT! You fight but you live another day! 5) Cardell Hayes put out his gun first! Another escalating. You a big guy you can fight instead of shooting! Yes Will Smith was drunk but that means you can beat him up! Being that Cardell Hayes FOLLOWED Will Smith makes him in the wrong! 6) You telling me you had to shoot the guy in the back 7 times?? Please! But I get it. Once you shoot there is no turning back. It's either you or him! 7) The reason why I'm against Cardell Hayes defense is because he pursued the vehicle and could have taken down the license plate number instead hitting them back with his truck. If you're going to do that. Then you're looking to fight which is what Cardell Hayes got. But he was too much of a punk to fight! He instead chose a GUN!!! 8) You can judge me but I rather fight you then KILL you!

You have to shoot until the threat is gone. People have been shot 7 times or even more before and still survived long enough to shoot back. Legally, even 20 shots would have been justified in that situation. Also, real life isn't like the movies, where one or two shots creates a huge explosion of blood and an intense bodily reaction from the person being shot. The MOST COMMON thought in the heads of police officers who legally shoot in self-defense is that they are missing their shots EVEN THOUGH THEY AREN'T because they don't immediately see the reaction. Hayes probably didn't even realize Smith had been hit by all of those shots.
