In this episode of Red Cards, a fender bender gets carried away, leading to the death of New Orleans Saints defensive end, Will Smith. The perpetrator claimed self defense, saying Smith was the aggressor. Renowned defensive end Will Smith was leaving the French Quarter Festival when security cameras show him lightly rear ending another vehicle.
An altercation ensued, culminating in the other driver, Cardell Hayes firing shots at Smith and his wife, killing the retired football player. Smith family publicist, Lauren Renschler, called it “sick irony” that a New Orleans icon would die in the most typical New Orleans fashion - murder by gun violence. When Hayes was convicted, some rejoiced, while others wondered what would have happened if the roles were reversed, and “Saint Will” was the one claiming self defense.

I no longer engage when people get crazy with me on the road. I just let it go. I have a life. I lose absolutely nothing because some stranger in his car insulted me, "punked me" or whatever. Just let it go and think about your life. You will never see these crazy people again after a few seconds. If it is a hit and run, just get the plate #. Taking away our guns and such will do NOTHING to help curb violence and murder in this or any other country. In fact it would cause the EXACT OPPOSITE, by making it impossible for the FEW law-abiding citizen to arm and defend themselves against the MANY ARMED criminals who can/will carry firearms illegally. For some wild and crazy reason people think banning/criminalizing a particular thing (A.K.A firearm) and/or action will actually stop future criminals from getting their hands on a firearm or other weapons. Just look at the 'War on drugs' BS, even though Nancy Reagan demonized drugs and drug use, it did NOTHING to help the situation, only causing more agony as it became more & more dangerous and lucrative to smuggle, sell, buy and use drugs

@@ryapowa you said the same thing you were disputing! Yes, you shouldn't need that but he did exit with it instead of leaving it in the truck. The Biggest Question is why wasn't he nor his partner calling it in at the time of Smith trying to flee the scene of an accident? That gave the court system a lane of intent to do harm charges to sure up the conviction and override that dumb ass stand your ground law (which I keep trying to tell my people it wasn't made for us). Again if there were no guns in play would he still have stood his ground or naw? And I already know for those who know the youngman, more than likely you say he would still stand his ground without it. Then why bring the gun into play? Why out of all the witnesses around that were told to call them boys after the shooting, never saw Smith with nor flash a gun. Where I'm at that means that a drunk old man is on the verge of a severe beating until them boys show up. Just think with one decision how much different things would have gone. Smith jailed for driving under the influence and hit and run. But both men alive to raise their children, but black male seperation from the family unit has been a plan in effect for centuries!

This couldve all been avoided! I knew it had to be something like Smith being intoxicated the reason he hit them and ran. But going after him to the point where it ended in someones death and your life being gone couldve been avoided by getting his tag number and calling the police. Yea i get it, i wouldve been heated too if somebody hit me and ran. But life is so much more important. You can get your car fixed, but 2 people lives are gone! You didnt shoot once, but you shot 8 times and made sure this man was dead. He probably thought Smith was heading back to get a gun, but damn...... 8 times!!!!!! Sad situation!

@@TripleDTx214 There are a few flaws in the law in Louisiana if everyone in this video is claiming that self defense shooting laws allow for the use of force to "kill" an attacker. This is a systemic issue in the possession of a firearm without proper training and situational awareness. Proper training in the use of and possession of firearm and for self defense should always emphasize the defense in removing the "threat". When a law is written to emphasize that self defense is allowable to "kill" in a particular state, it now renders the jury to look at the shooting as "shoot to kill" as opposed to "shoot to eliminate the threat". So if it was one shot or two and he neutralized the threat, he might have been acquitted on self defense. Without proper understanding of the use of the firearm in self defense and cause and effect...which we see all too often with concealed carry (mind you I am concealed carry self defense advocate)...people cross over past the point of no return and in the heat of the moment it was too late! It was said once that you train and educate on the use of the firearm 99% so when you cross over to the 1% you have made every assessment and effort necessary before doing so. Sad because as a die hard Saints fan it was a sad day. As a human it was a sad day for this man because I don't believe he was a killer...but everything was stacked up against him the second he engaged a New Orleans Saint and unloaded most of his pistol's "magazine" into the back of a man. Tough situation!!!! Wish it never happened for all involved!

your a idiot and obviously never have fired a firearm before. You can let off 7 shots in just a couple seconds. And especially if its in self defense and your in fear for your life your gunna make sure you shoot first and your gunna make sure you eliminate the threat by letting off as many shots as your magazine holds. When its life and death it's kill or be killed. Eliminate the threat before the threat eliminates you. I'm not at all referring to this situation in particular. I'm referring to be in a situation where you have a firearm and it's kill or be killed and how fast and easy it is to get off 7 shots. 7 shots in a modern handgun is nothing to shoot. Don't be so quick to post something so blatantly false and incorrect when you have no clue what your talking about bcuz there are people that do know and will make you look like a emotional irrational fool. You never trust just 1 or 2 shots. And your definitely not as experienced in firearms as you think you are if your calling the MAGAZINE a clip. Go up to anyone in the military and try to talk about guns and call the mag a clip...they will automatically correct you and change the subject bcuz you obviously have no clue what your talking about.

@@enigma1247 na u rite. In Iraq or something your dumping the whole clip. But when your point blank with that caliber you don't have too let off 8 shots and 7 in the back on top of that. You shoot the chest he turns and falls in the car. Maybe you let off one more. But then you keep your aim on him and say don't move. If he even turns alittle u continue. This isn't a inexperienced gun owner. He knew exactly what too do in that situation. He was definitely mad will Smith punked him and shot too kill. Imo that is.

Okay but that's call heat of the moment. Plus Will Smith isn't a little dude and plus his alcohol levels was beyond High. I could imagine how Mr. Hayes felt. He probably was scared as well. Really thinking it was a gun in that vehicle and two how violent Smith reaction was when he got out the vehicle as well.

He was released on bond in March, awaiting a new trial. He was acting in self defense. Will Smith was driving drunk, rammed the back of that mans car. Attempted a hit and run. Hayes followed him, Smith probably slammed on the brakes causing Hayes to rear end Smiths vehicle. Then Smith gets out drunk & angry. Attacks Hayes. Hayes shouldn’t of been in prison. Let’s put aside the fact that Smith was a beloved NFL Super star.. Without that resume & status everyone would see Smith as the aggressor. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m glad Hayes is home with his son where he belongs & I pray he stays there!

There is stories of homeowners shooting burglers in the back as they ran away, after robbing them and the homeowner getting sentenced. Any person who carries a gun has to be prepared to defend their actions in court. And shooting someone whos back is turned is "No longer a threat to your life". Common sense and a cool head would result in a completely different story. I feel sad for the family, But they are not Victims.

@Gabe Gonzalez It's a law my dude. Even if a burglar is in your home, if he starts to run away you can't shoot him in the back, it's called a fleeing felon. You will get charged. People have to know the laws of the state they live in. The problem is people assume what the laws are.
