Beverly Hills, 90210 (often referred to by its short title, 90210 is an American teen drama television series created by Darren Star and produced by Aaron Spelling under his production company Spelling Television. The series ran for ten seasons on Fox from October 4, 1990, to May 17, 2000, and is the first of six television series in the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise. The series follows the lives of a group of friends living in Beverly Hills, California, as they transition from high school to college and into the adult world. "90210" refers to one of the city's five ZIP codes.
The initial premise of the show was based on the adjustment and culture shock that twins Brandon (Jason Priestley) and Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) experienced when they and their parents, Jim (James Eckhouse) and Cindy (Carol Potter), moved from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Beverly Hills, California.
After poor ratings during its first season, the series gained popularity during the summer of 1991, when Fox aired a special "summer season" of the show while most other series were in reruns.[10] Viewership increased dramatically, and 90210 became one of Fox's top shows when it returned that fall. The show became a global pop culture phenomenon with its cast members, particularly Jason Priestley and Luke Perry, who became teen idols; the series also made actresses Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth household names in the United States. The show is credited with creating or popularizing the teen soap genre that many other successful television shows followed in the years to come.
Shannen Maria Doherty (/ˈdoʊ.ərti/; April 12, 1971 - July 13, 2024) was an American actress who played roles in both television and film, including Jenny Wilder in Little House on the Prairie (1982-1983), Maggie Malene in Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985), Kris Witherspoon in Our House (1986-1988), Heather Duke in Heathers (1989), Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990-1994), 90210 (2008-2009) and BH90210 (2019), Prue Halliwell in Charmed (1998-2001), and Dobbs in Fortress (2021).
In March 2015, Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer, which had spread to her lymph nodes. According to Doherty, her employer at the time had failed to make her insurance payments on time, causing her coverage to lapse from 2014 to 2015, and resulting in the cancer not being diagnosed until it had already spread so significantly. In February 2016, Doherty revealed that she was receiving anti-estrogen treatment to shrink the tumor and enable treatment by lumpectomy rather than mastectomy.
The presence of multiple tumors meant that a lumpectomy was not possible, and a unilateral mastectomy was performed in May 2016. Surgery revealed that some of the cancer cells may have spread beyond the lymph nodes. Because the cancer was more advanced than previously thought, Doherty underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy following surgery. On April 29, 2017, Doherty announced that her cancer was in remission.
On February 4, 2020, Doherty announced that her cancer had returned a year earlier, and had advanced to stage four. In October 2021, Doherty provided an update on her cancer treatment during an interview with Juju Chang of ABC News. In June 2023, she announced that the cancer had spread to her brain and was terminal. In November 2023, she revealed that the cancer had spread to her bones. In January 2024, Doherty shared that she was undergoing a new cancer treatment and that it was successfully breaking through the blood-brain barrier, calling it a "miracle".
Doherty died from cancer at her home in Malibu, California, on July 13, 2024, at the age of 53.

This is a show I never watched, my older age is probably why. I do remember watching Shannon on Little House on the Prairie, I am so saddened by her death , she was so young. Stupid cancer! I am fighting breast cancer right now. Ive already had surgery, Im in the process of starting radiation. So Shannons death shook me quite a bit. I loved Beverley Hills 90210! I watched it from the very beginning. Luke Perry is still one of my all-time favorite actors. He's buried just about two hours from my home. I was devastated when I heard of Shannon’s passing. She from Memphis, Tn. and her family left to go to California so she could start her acting career. I literally watched her grow up from watching her on Little House on The Prairie on up to her other shows. I’ve always loved her so much and I’m so heartbroken that cancer took her from us at such a young age. She was an amazing young lady and actress. She’ll be dearly missed. I really hate it that she is being cremated and her ashes spread where she lives. Her fans will not have a place to come and visit her. Just like Luke we cannot visit his grave either. "Heavenly Father, regardless of Shannens beliefs or how she lived her life whether good or bad, we are all sinner's and imperfect. I know you love Shannen very much, and it's sad for all people going through the horrible desease of cancer. Our flesh maybe cursed, but thanks to our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ, we have all overcome death and Satan's time on this Earth is coming to an end. I just pray for Shannen Heavenly Father that you forgive all of her sins and to accept her with your loving open arms. I lost my grandmother to cancer 17 years ago this November. Just like with Shannon the cancer had spread to her brain. I can only imagine the heartache and pain her friends and family must be going thru right now. We had a cremation when my grandmother passed and no grave. Shannen's passing was the first thing I saw on my Instagram feed on Saturday morning when I first woke up. Tears filled my eyes and the first thing I could think of was she was reunited with Luke. That made me tear up even more. Her last Instagram post was on June 25. Apart of her podcast she said she didn't know how long she would live. I just turned 49 on the 9th. Being so close in age and a huge fan of 90210 hit me hard. Now we can all really say Brenda and Dylan forever. Nice tribute, Scott, thank you! She was in a short-lived TV show after playing Jenny on the last few seasons of Little House on the Prairie, which ended in 1983, 9 Seasons. "Our House" was from 1986-1988 in which she played "Kris". During that timeframe, one of the episodes was filmed at March AFB, in Moreno Valley, Ca. I was stationed there and recall the public affairs office on the base announcing filming and that she would be on the base. The reason for her character being there was that she was interested in joining the AF. I believe she was nominated for a Young Artist award during that show. This propelled her for the big time in 90210 series. RIP Shannen!

I was so sorry to hear that she passed away, i didn't watch 90210, I know that she shared what was going on with her with the public to help others dealing with the dreaded cancer. I believe she is with the Angels now and free from pain. RIP Shannen Doherty

Josh Taylor who played Dylan’s father is a well known soap star as well. He plays as Roman Brady on Days Of Our Lives☺️ that part was played by 2 others on the soap as well, but has been played by Josh Taylor for a long while now. Great video ( as always) @SCOTT ON TAPE We lost so many around the same time. Shannon’s loss is felt by so many around the world, and by those that knew her best. My heart goes out to her mom Rosa Elizabeth Doherty. May Shannon rest in eternal peace🙏🏻

Beverly Hills 90210 was my favorite show during my teenage years. I'm a huge 90210 fan. Shannen's Death is shocking to me despite knowing that she had been fighting cancer for several years. RIP Shannen Doherty 🙏🕊️😢💔. She was one of my favorite actresses. Despite all the controversies surrounding her and rumors of issues with her and other cast members on both 90210 and Charmed she was a beautiful, caring, charming and lovely person. While I didn't get to watch 90210 much as a teen she was one of my favorite actresses of all time. My 2 fave movies of hers was friends til the end and no one would tell. So sad to see her gone but now she can rest peacefully knowing she won't have to suffer and fight anymore. She fought a good fight. Rih sweet Angel. You will be missed by many
