Yeah but it was Wop May and Roy Brown who put him there. May said to his dieing day that it was Brown who got the Baron off his ass. Brown, humble man that he was upon returning to his bass never claimed he killed Richthofen. He said he shot down a red tri plane. He had no idea who the pilot was.

Very well done! Captain Brown had dysentary that day and he had to fire from some distance off, so it was unlikely that he shot him down. I believe that it was the Australian gun crew who got in the fatal shot. I believe MVR was probably depressed, tired and was at the point that he didn't much care to continue from what I read.
@stereowired4 жыл бұрын
I was hit in the head earlier in the war that caused me to go on leave. During that time the wound caused psychological problems and stress. I wrote an autobiography at that time, and I talked about my life in the air. One sentence writes “I am in wretched spirits, after every aerial combat. I believe the war is not what is like at home, with a hurrah and a roar, it’s very serious, very grim.” ‘It’s the truth. I had lost many close friends from Jasta 11, and I was one of the last few surviving at the time of my death- including my brother Lothar and my cousin Wolfram (who would later go on to be a field marshal in the Luftwaffe). Its very hard to lose someone, and to know you were replaced by a dishonorable asshat in the Second World War is almost equal. The war solved nothing, we were all there because of the rising tensions in Europe that takes a millennium to explain. You are correct on what you said, I was depressed. I had lost so many friends and killed so many people of the same generation in different uniforms. All I see now of myself back then was a celebrity used for propaganda material. When you kill someone, you feel like you actually killed a human being, a person with a personality, there is no person like that particular person, they might have had a wife and kids, and all of his happy life comes crashing down in a hulk of wood and cloth. War is pointless.

The single shot. Into the aircraft. From a lower levei. Into the body. Would prove it. It just adds up. No rocket science there. Antiaircraft fire from the ground. Or from another plane. The Baron's Plane and The Baron. Would have Full Of Holes. It Stands To Reason.
@Horse20214 жыл бұрын
He was hit by an Australian ground MG crew. A single .303 round entered his body from the lower right and exited upper left. The round was found inside his flight coat after the body was pulled from the wreck. Brown was never close enough nor in a position to have ever make the shot.

There was a TV documentary 5 or 6 years ago about the Baron. The producers employed the services of military historians and other experts, some Ph.D’s, etc. made a ton of measurements, airspeed, used lasers, time of day, approximate angles, shoe size, ad infinitum. The documentarians came to the conclusion that, yes, he was probably killed by Australian ground fire. After landing his plane he was alive and responsive. Australian soldiers attempted to speak to him but no one spoke German. In a very short time he uttered the word “Kaput” then lapsed into unconsciousness, soon thereafter died. He was given a military funeral w/full honors. (by ranking members of the Australian & British armies) Caissons, horses, a largish contingent of various military brass attended. Planes dropped funeral wreaths during the service. Anyway, very interesting, well made video.

They were dishonest. They omitted another pilot witnessing Brown put a burst into the Red Baron's cockpit. Then the plane went down. When a fighter ace dives in behind you and puts a burst from two machine guns into your cockpit, that has a far higher probability of shooting you down than someone taking potshots from the ground. It was a classic way planes git shot down. Leaving that out is fake history. There is a very slim chance that Brown riddled the Red Baron's cockpit with bullets without hitting him but it is very probable that he did and that the military was right to credit him with the kill. It was witnessed by a fellow pilot and was confirmed to go down.

Manfred was 2 weeks away from his 26th birthday. He was far from depressed or distracted, having just scored his 80th victory the day before and being ackonowledged as the war's leading ace. His triplane, 425/17, did not have Maltese Cross markings. Brown's Camel, as all other 209 Squadron aircraft, sported "Red Noses." They were recognized by this feature, by the German airmen, as "The Anti-Richthofen Squadron." The Baron's right gun had a split firing pin and was not functional. His left gun was jamming, constantly, requiring him to clear the jams and recharge the gun, often. This situation hampered his ability to quickly dispatch May's Camel and return to German airspace. Mellersh, from Brown's squadron witnessed the shoot down and the Allied doctors determined that the Baron's wounds could not have been caused by ground based fire. Ignore the wishful thinking and Monday morning quarterbascking, Brown was the victor over von Richthofen.

There is no way the Baron was dead before touch down. The Fokker tripe needs full control for a landing. A fast two wheel landing as shown would not have ended well. The reciprocating mass of the rotary engine needed a steady hand for a 3 pointer or it would ground loop. Done properly the Fokker can land within 80 meters.

Ok so, this was a wonderful video. Paint scheme on R's tripe seemed great, as according to historian Alan Bennett, who is considered the historical expert on this fight( read his 2 book vol. on Roy Brown) the Baron's plane was more maroon color, not bright red, as suggested by people. Further more 209 sq. Flew cherry nose camels, and their paint scheme was undergoing changes on April 21st.That said, the evidence suggests that ground fire did him in because medically the wound he sustained was so mortal, according to medical experts now and then that he would not have had the time to continue to chase May the distance he did if Brown would have hit him in the manner in which he was hit. According to Bennett, Brown actually did hit him, but the bullet did not hit Richthofen directly. If one wants a great history of this, i encourage reading Roy Brown by Alan Bennett. Just saying. Overall, loved the video, keep doing them.

That was just fake history by charlatans who omitted the rather important fact that an American pilot witnessed Brown put a burst from two machine guns into the Red Baron's cockpit and then the plane went down. Any honest program would include that information. Lasers will not show what happened in a dogfight. A witness in the dogfight seeing a fellow pilot put tracers into the cockpit of the Red Baron has a lot more weight as evidence. Nobody saw any of the potshots from the ground even hit his plane.
