Isyander calling Koda a geek and then nonchalantly continuing his weekly hour long rant about the background lore of a mildly obscure wargame is the funniest shit ever to me 💀💀💀
@blasphemouschaos8 ай бұрын
I mean, would we really call it "mildly obscure" considering the player base is quickly overcoming D&D in estimated population? Like, that's the gold standard of geekdom, and 40K is rapidly gaining ground on it.
@abiggs48288 ай бұрын
@@blasphemouschaoswhat’s the sauce on this? I’d wager that most people who watch videos like this don’t even play the game…I don’t think views on lore videos correlates to player numbers. D&D is SO much more accessible to actually play, and is so adaptable that it can be what ever you want it to be…whereas even your head cannon 40k factions are still fighting sci-fi battles in space. I don’t wanna just outright call bullshit…but this factoid sure seems smelly at first glance. I’d be interested to see where you pulled this from, and just how butt shaped that location is.
@Tigerman12118 ай бұрын
@@blasphemouschaosI generally see obscurity as how well something is known by non-fans/the general public.any nerd, geek, or gamer worth their salt is at least aware of 40k so it's absolutely not "Truly Obscure", but my grandma has a SIGNIFICANTLY higher chance of knowing what D&D is than even having heard the words "warhammer 40k". Basically if something hasn't yet broken into mainstream consciousness at all I consider it at least a little obscure.

As an Australian I love that we're just a death world to you guys. I mean I get it, between the harsh environment in most of the country, drop bears, and all the poisonous stuff we have, it makes a lot of sense. As far as the gun situation, yes we had a big gun buy back and heavily increased gun restrictions after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, way after the Emu War which was in 1932, and it's hard to get guns in the city but if you're a farmer it's pretty easy to get a rifle. You aren't going to get anything crazy like an assault rifle, but hunting rifles are common and often essential. As far as the Emu war, yes Emu's are native, farming however, is not. There's a reason indigenous Australians didn't have much in the way of farming, it's because the wildlife here doesn't play to well with it, you don't have any "beasts of burden" cuz our largest native animals don't play ball like that, and those same animals are generally herbivores who, like the emu's did, just decimate farm land. There are other factors too but that is one large reason for a lack of farming before colonisation. We had guns and we still lost the Emu War, which yes, we sent in the army so it was a legit conflict, if that gives you any idea how resilient our wildlife can be. Also, yes the emu's weren't belligerent, the same cannot be said of cassowaries, largest omnivorous bird in the world and often titled as the most dangerous bird in the world. One dies not simply fuck with a cassowary.
@LilFeralGangrel6 ай бұрын
Except there's plenty of evidence that Australians Aboriginals had agriculture. It's more likely that they their own ways of dealing with Emus and might have hunted them for food as well.
@SerasXHarkonnen6 ай бұрын
@@LilFeralGangrel There was agriculture in some areas but it was limited, you don't see the same level of widespread agriculture that you could find in other parts of the world for the reasons I mentioned. As far as emus go, the issue came about because they were destroying agricultural land that was cultivated in areas there previously wasn't agricultural land, so there wasn't a problem until westerners came and effectively created one by changing the ecosystem of the area to farm.

Coming from rural Texas in the US, I feel like I can relate in some ways. I live in a different state and still shake my clothes for critters. I still check with a mirror, light and stick before grabbing things from normally undisturbed places. Crazy folks with guns are way more dangerous than the critters. Lots of druggies go out to the sticks to avoid the police. Humans are the most dangerous beings. The heat still kills some folks in the summer. Dont get me started on the politics. Lots of things make you miserable like ticks, chiggers, fire ants and such. Still doesn't go as hard as some places I hear in Australia. I got to visit the Equadorian Amazon on cultural exchange. They check thier clothes and boots for critters too. Still usually it's folks who don't understand and respect the local environment that are most likely to get hurt. I enjoyed your comment.

@@LexYeenThere's a suggestion that some of Catachan's wildlife, such as the Catachan Devil, is of Tyranid origin. My theory is that a Tyranid scout ship happened upon Catachan a very long time ago and it did the thing it usually does, sends Tyranid genetic material to the planet to corrupt existing flora and fauna, which I imagine was already pretty hostile on Catachan but this dialed it up to 11. Thing is the hive fleet never came and so life on Catachan evolved independently, perhaps forming a broodmind that was quite primitive because there weren't any highly intelligent Tyranids around, this could be why the planet will unite to turn on any foreign lifeforms, they have some level of psychic connection. Anyway when the Tyranids show up eventually, the creatures of Catachan don't recognize them as allies because they've been separated for such a long time and both evolved separately, plus Catachan creatures are more hybrids rather than full Tyranids, and so Catachan sees them as foreign invaders and does what it does. The Tyranids for their part try to do the thing they do by spreading their genetic material to corrupt the flora and fauna but, seeing as how the existing flora and fauna have already evolved from Tyranid genetic material, this either does not affect them or it's actively rejected by the creatures of Catachan who would have some form of controlled evolution like Tyranids have. So then when Tyranids invade, they're effectively fighting other Tyranids that are a bit different based on the genetic material that adapted and evolved with, and perhaps Catachan has some pretty tough things before anyway so they just end up outclassing the invasion. Tyranids can adapt genetic material from those they kill, but can they adapt material from another form of Tyranid that doesn't want them to? Maybe not, maybe that's why they can't adapt to Catachan. This is all just an idea but I like the idea of Catachan resisting the Tyranids cuz the world is basically just one independent Tyranid entity in its own right.

Crisis suits No to everything else (there's not enough tau content that isn't partly "I hate them you should too") Side note, play the game Warhammer 40k: Mechanicus, that soundtrack is dope as hell

Tau crisis suits would be awesome, also avoid Pritchard, AL. All I'm saying is if firefighters have to have police escorts to go there, it's best to just stay away

The bolter round is a 75 caliber or 1.1in in naval gun caliber or 28mm fun fact the us navy used 1.1in or 75 caliber for anti aircraft guns so there are photos of the ammunition to see the size of a bolter bullet

48:49 Isyander, if not Komodo dragon, you can always go for a Monitor lizard. It’s the same family lol. Also yes they are in fact venomous, it’s just that they ALSO have bacteria.

One of my favorite defense economics YTers (crowded market, I know) was doing a playthrough of Rogue Trader on his side channel, and when explaining thr origin options ar chargen, simply glossed 'Death World' as 'Space Australia'. (In fairness, a) he is (very) Australian, and b) he also glossed 'Fortress World' as 'Space Maginot Line', so...)

FYI: horses are still used in some armies. Mostly in mountain warfare. Horses are sometimes the only way to bring supplies up the slopes (air support is too expensive, needed elsewhere). They conduct recon in those environments too...well sometimes, widespread drone use will probably change that. Gasmasks for those horses are also still in production.
