Solitar is like Frieren's dark/warped reflection. A Demon version of Frieren. They have almost the same amount of mana, and are probably of almost the same age. They are both fascinated with humans and trying to learn more about humans. They both still fundamentally do not fully understand humans despite their efforts to learn so far. They are both particularly skilled at analyzing magic. They both think coexistence between humans and demons is impossible. They both love to learn a wide variety of magic. They are physically similar in size and build. Etc.

Not to mention their battle styles and mana control are the same. They both rely on some good, well trained basic combat spells instead of great variety or fancy spells, preferring boring yet highly efficient and potent forms of magic. Frieren has likely the greatest mana control in the whole series (aside Serie but that can be applied on any magic discipline and technique) with her mastery of passive mana suppression. Solitär proves the same in that regard. While she does not suppress her mana due being a demon, she uses it as a means for potent attacks and defense instead of using it solely for spells. We know that Frieren may have her aces like the „Height of Magic“ thing but otherwise they seemed to be equally matched. The battle even tipped towards Solitär‘s favor due her demon body being more resilient than Frieren‘s while both continued to suffer injuries and damages.

I personally feel like Solitär is more of a foil to Flamme than Frieren. Flamme seems to be the one who invented the word « demon » in this world. She understands demon society and magic in a more scientifical way, but stil considers them mere monsters. This is similar to how Solitär wants to know more about human culture, yet tells Macht that coexistence is impossible because of demon biology. Flamme and Solitär arrive at the conclusion that demons and humans can't coexist not because of emotion, but because of logic and science. Macht is the Frieren foil because both of them are emotional. They know about the biology of demons, but it's emotion rather than logic that drives them. If Flamme was in Frieren's place back when Himmel tried to spare a demon child, she most likely would have ignored him and killed the demon anyway. Frieren, probably because she wanted to respect Himmel's wish, spared the demon despite logic telling her otherwise. Just like Frieren at that moment, Macht relies on emotion rather than logic. Solitär told him coexistence is impossible, yet he tries anyway. I think this is why Frieren told Macht that she respects him and that they have something in common. Alas, she can't let him live, even if it was possible for him to feel guilt and stop killing humans: the price would be too great. Yet another parralel between Flamme and Solitär is that they both taught magic to Frieren/Macht, who would then go on to teach Fern/Denken.

Mächt tried to coexist with humans, Solitär tried to understand them. And while she failed on a fundamental level, she was aware she would fail because of her nature as a demon. Still, as she says herself, she's a coward. Humans are the same in that regard. She surpassed Mächt on so many levels at playing human and toying with humans that she truly learnt from them. It may have been a distracting game for her, but she was a top-class player while Mächt had better specs and no real interest in playing with his food. She understands the conditions for her safety and what causes humans to feel fear. (Amazing villain imo)

i bet solitar is alive. in the fiala toll arc or whatever it was called, solitar was super ominus about "my fight will happen in the future" and atp of the story shes 'dead' so like... either that or she doesnt need to be alive to see her plan through. Because if you think about it we never really see her 'signature' magic. She has a relatively large arsenal that could all arguebly be considered her specialty, from her mana slices, sword magic, or the fact that she researches human magic. hence what if her magic is teleporting or sumth
@adamwu456523 күн бұрын
The swords are probably Solitar's signature magic. It's what she uses first all the time. The mana slice is unlikely to be a signature magic because it only becomes effective after one's mana has grown to immense amounts. Solitar would not have been able to develop a magic like that when she was young and her mana pool still small. It's likely the swords were her first magic and her signature magic for the first few centuries of her life, with her learning human magic later and developing her mana slice and mana shield defences only later after she became very powerful.
@1xGalaxy23 күн бұрын
From my interpretation, her signature magic is a type of magic that boosts the effectiveness of normal offense and defense, which is why Frieren talks about how incomprehensibly strong Solitar's defense is. Not to mention when she refers to "her fight in the future" just refers to how her fight was against Frieren and she already died. Idk, just my own interpretation

Solitar could well be alive, especially because of the time travel arc, she gets info that she is killed in the future, so maybe she planned a contingency if her body gets destroyed. @greenstarplayer65020 күн бұрын
Solitär is likely my favorite demon so far and I might even say that she might be the most dangerous one yet despite demons like Qual, Macht and the Demon King (I was genuinely frightened seeing her appearing in the present in front of Fern and Stark). She is the most human-like demon we met so far and understands them better than any of her kind before, alleviating herself to the most competent and dangerous deceptive predator as a side effect. I am somewhat sad that she is dead and I actually wish she might somehow return back in the future despite being such a monster (perhaps magically somehow due to her interest in biology and organics). In a way, she is the demon foil/version of Frieren. Lives in solitude and obscurity, fascinated in humanity, study all types of magic, wanting to learn everything about mankind and emotions while not truly understand it yet, deeply skilled and knowledgeable in humanity‘s magic system and respects it, exceptional if not unparalleled mana control (Frieren in mana concealment and suppression and Solitär due her demon nature instead for defensive and offensive means), similar mana levels, similar fighting style of preferring simple basic boring yet highly efficient and refined combat techniques over vast variety and flashy spells and so on. Unlike any demon before we saw so far, her downfall was not actually being overly prideful or arrogant or crippling over specialized in a type of magic. It was her own curiosity and obsession and fighting alone. If it weren’t for that, she would have killed Stark and Fern, leaving Frieren on her own. I don’t think Denken would have the condition, skills and mana left to be able to lethally wound her. This battle was truly evenly matched which tipped to Solitär‘s favor considering her body being more resilient than that of Frieren and mana defense. Perhaps Frieren would have found a way to win, considering her aces like „Height of Magic“ but otherwise it seemed to be the closest we saw Frieren being defeated. Deep respect and acknowledgment to the nameless yet terrifying Great Demon Solitär.

While i agree with Most of your points, i disagree on the point of Frieren lacking confidence to face Solitar on her own, having to Gamble on Fern still being alive, thus her dispelling the Gold spell. Frieren is a Mage that simply prefers to have demons eliminated, regardless of methods. She doesn't Care for glory or stuff like that. For Frieren, as long as a Demon is killed, It doesn't matter If It's her or someone Else. What matters is that the Demon is killed. Is one of the reasons Serie dislikes Frieren. They are foils to each other and foils to Frieren. They both try to understand humans, but approach from opposite directions. Macht is trying to comprehend with his heart. Solitaire is using her brain. And they both ultimately fail, because of their Demon nature. Macht genuinely wants to coexist with humans. Solitaire uses her understanding to exploit/fight/kill humans even more effectively without a qualm. Macht refuses to accept failure and is willing to burn down (turn to gold) the whole world to get what he wants. Solitar believes from the beginning that fully succeeding is impossible because of her innate demonic nature, but does it anyways. Macht, who wants peace, is recognized far and wide as the most dangerous demon in the world still alive. Solitar, who insists that war is the unavoidable default natural state, is completely unknown and unrecognized. Both once revealed are utterly terrifying.

I feel like Frieren had a disadvantage during her fight against Solitar. She was heavily drained by the task of reading a 100+ years worth of Machts memories, the duty was so draining that Frieren entered a vegetative state. This would have taken a 1st class mage like Denken 2-3 years to read. Not to mention, it was so bad that she had to rely on Fern, Stark, and Denken for basic needs. Also when she was fighting Solitar she was mostly holding back, as Solitar herself stated in the middle of their standoff. And when Frieren actually locked in, she quickly copied and learned Solitars strongest magic, and even used it against her, which resulted in Solitar getting blown away. You can argue that Solitar was also at a disadvantage, but I don't feel like it was a big deal like Frierens task. Solitar had to break a barrier, but needed to analyze it for 2 months, which was made by the many of humans most advance and complex barrier magic. A demon like Macht could never break such a barrier, but with Solitars prior knowledge with human magic, she managed to pull it off. But this kind of feet does not compare to what Frieren pulled off during the 1st class mage exams. As Frieren was capable of analyzing and breaking Series barrier in a span of 1 day, it was thought to be impossible for anyone, as the only way to break it was to "turn the world upside down." This is due to the fact that Serie is a mage with immense mastery over magic, not to mention she's a mage from the mythical era. Serie showed us how powerful she truly is, when she was about to eliminate Macht, but due to his curse they decided to keep him alive. The same curse that was said to be the best, which Frieren managed to permanently nullify effortlessly. In addition, while fighting Solitar, Frieren was also trying to turn the city of Weiss back to normal. Therefore, Frieren was by far slightly better than Solitar.
@adamwu456511 күн бұрын
Hard to say, because the Barrier sealing Macht was made by multiple first class mages with the express purpose of confining Macht for as long as it would take to find a way to counter his magic. It was undoubtedly the best they could come up with. Whereas Serie's barrier was a throwaway spell meant for a single one-time use for a test of trainees, meant to keep out things that might interfere with the test. It is very likely not the strongest barrier Serie is capable of casting. Genau's opinion on the strength of the barrier is influenced by his reverence for and awe of Serie, and may not be reliable. Sense, in contrast, for example, showed no surprise at all when Frieren managed to break it. I think the general narrative gist of it was to suggest equality between Frieren and Solitar. They both required to the same amount of time to perform a feat of analysis that could be viewed as "impossible" for their kind, in the analysis of an ultimate magic crafted by a mind/minds thoroughly alien to their own. IF Frieren ended up more drained by her feat than Solitar by hers, that itself would be an indication of a degree of superiority in skill on Solitar's part. It should also be noted that while Frieren was able to copy Solitar's pure mana attack and use it against her, she was NOT able to copy Solitar's pure mana defence to block any of Solitar's attacks. She was still taking physical damage from all of Solitar's attacks that landed on her, and still thinking in her internal monologue that she could be insta-killed at any time if she got hit by the wrong attack at the wrong time. I think the outcome of this fight is both a confirmation and a rejection of Serie's earlier statement that Frieren was "unskilled for her age". Solitar is approximately the same age as Frieren with approximately the same strength in mana, and in combat ability she is CLEARLY noticeably more skilled (which Frieren freely admits), and her mana control significantly more refined. But Frieren wins this fight by using non-combat magic skills, which Serie does not value, and leveraging teamwork, which Serie had dismissed as being "lucky" to find strong companions.
@anthonydalediaz5744 күн бұрын
My theory about Solitar being so strong and was able to fight frieren toe to toe, is that in the manga when frieren returned to the past, they fought three greater demons (originally four but the saint of the end greater demon decided to flee) including Solitar, Grausam, and the strongest warrior the demon race (I forgot his name), Solitar was just supporting Grausam while hiding with her flying swords, and Grausam managed to put Himmel and Frieren in a dream like state, while Heiter is immune because it's stated that he is beloved by the goddess? Idk. But Himmel was able to fight back and injure Grausam causing him to flee. And when Solitar and Grausam successfully retreated, Solitar asked Grausam what he got from the present frieren memories and maybe they studied it. That's why she was able to analyze many complicated spells, break the barrier in Macht's domain and use many human spells like defensive spells because she got it and learned from present Frieren's memories in the past.

While this battle made Frieren put in some work, I don't think she was really near her limit. She was playing with Solitar enough that she could still be putting substantial energy into decoding diazagold and she was keeping her mana suppressed through most if not all of the fight. She also didn't use her height/apex of magic spell so I think she still had more in reserve that we didn't see in this battle.

Excellent analysis of the fight with Solitär, but you raise a good question, how does Solitär know what happened with Qual? The only witnesses to that fight are Frieren and Fern. Also how does Solitär know about Frieren's fight with Aura as the only surviving witness is Frieren?
@adamwu456523 күн бұрын
There was a human village near where Qual had been sealed, and the people there knew that Qual had been sealed, since Himmel regularly came there to check on Qual's seal, and the Villagers knew about that. And when Frieren and Fern came there Frieren told one of the villagers that they had come to deal with Qual because the Seal was going to break soon. Presumably Frieren would have told those villagers afterwards that Qual was gone, and they may have spread the word around afterwards.

@@adamwu4565 Everything you say is accurate. That Frieren killed Qual and Aura was common knowledge in the village and in Graf's Dukedom so Solitär would have been able to find that information. In Vol 11 CH101 Solitär tells Frieren that she killed Qual. Strangely Frieren seems to be perplexed as to how she knew that. In a chilling response, Solitär says "Many people told me about it." Chilling because we know that Solitär kills everyone she talks with. With regard to Aura, Solitär says "I looked into the aftermath of your battle with Aura the Guillotine. I know that you're limiting your Mana." Vol 11 Ch 99 PG 33. This is knowledge by simple deduction. Solitär knew that Aura was a long lived, powerful demon with a huge amount of Mana and that Aura used the Auserlese spell to defeat and behead her prey. Knowing that Frieren defeated Aura could only mean that Frieren had more Mana than Aura and observing Frieren now with such limited Mana, must mean that Frieren is limiting her Mana. Solitär learns that Frieren defeated Qual and Aura, but not how she did it. Solitär is a very interesting demon in that she is curious about human science and technology.

Frieren's actual edge over Solitar is the fact that she has faced about a ton of demons in her life, so she has a deeper understanding of their nature and ways. She may be a lot stronger and smarter than the previous ones, but her means don't go far off from theirs. Frieren has, more or less, read through her words that Fern wasn't dead, hence the decision to have Fern do the surprise attack. Solitar's technical yapping has more of distracted herself instead of Frieren, as Frieren is a selective listener to begin with; she only hears what she wanted to hear. The fact that Frieren's been analyzing the spell which covers the land and Solitar's capacity, while the latter keeps yapping, is a proof that she wasn't totally listening... She's prolly only heard half of Solitar's speech at most.

I think, Frieren saved that spell for the last situation, when she had no other choice and was close to death. If you remember, when Flamme first met Frieren, the corpse of the demon general Bazan was stuck to the tree, I think she used that spell and she was nearly dead herself and she couldn't even move herself too.
@adamwu456511 күн бұрын
That spell strikes me as being fundamentally very similar to Solitar's own pure mana attacks. Using pure mana to push away and crush as opposed to using pure mana to pierce or cut. There's a high chance that Solitar with her pure mana defence, could at least partially deflect that attack and survive it. And, as Fern noted in the fight with the clone, that attack, once used, leaves Frieren wide open for a counter attack. If she couldn't be certain that the attack would kill Solitar outright, then using it would be suicide. So that attack can only really be used if 1. you are SURE it will END the fight immediately, 2. you aren't fighting alone, and have companions with you that you can trust will be able to cover for you during your vulnerable period afterwards or 3. you literally are about to die anyways and have absolutely no other choice and nothing else to use. And even though she was losing to Solitar, she never got to point 3. She still had a viable strategy to play (ie reversing Diagoldze to free Fern in order to tag team Solitar together afterwards). If that had failed, if after reversing the spell she found out that Fern really had been killed or incapacitated and couldn't come to help her, then perhaps at that point Frieren would be thinking about resorting to that technique.

Solitär, all things considered, is more powerful than Macht. They ha e similar mana, but while Mach is considered one of the strongest demons due to his ability that can't be countered, Solitär is able to be just as dangerous by using the most basic attack possible, one that anyone could easily learn. While once Macht's diagolzer is understood he has no way to prevent people from just deactivating it, Solitär's spell are just basic magic, no trick so no way to undo them. On top of this, Solitär not only has one secret weapon, the focused mana attack, but also a second one, the focused mana shield, which is the strongest in the series so far, blocking focused Zoltraak, and her sword summoning attack, plus she probably knows a lot of spell, being interested and curious like Frieren. She also knows how to play with human psychology very well. She is overall more versatile, durable and skilled. In a direct fight with Macht it could bo either way, as they both implied, vut there it's a matter of rock, paper, scissors

Frieren stated that she, Solitar and Macht were all roughly equivalent in mana. But Frieren also numbered Macht as one of the 11 mages who she lost to in the past who explicitly had less mana than she has. So Frieren must have ever so slightly more mana than Macht. Whereas Solitar's mana is at least equal to Frieren's, and there are implications that it could be ever so slightly more. Macht makes up for the difference in mana by having the single most broken and difficult to counter ability out of everything all three of them know.

@@adamwu4565there is no implication solitär has more. solitär is stated by denken to have mana on par with macht’s. frieren says her and solitär don’t have a SIGNIFICANT difference in mana. macht is one of 11 mages who beat frieren while having less mana. if solitär has mana on par with macht and macht has less than frieren, frieren is clearly the one with the most mana out of the 3. of course, there’s not much difference between them 3 and they all are pretty close in mana, but frieren is definitely the one with the most, not solitär

The title is so clickbaited. Frieren wasn't push past her limits from Fighting Solitaar. She was analyzing the entirety of Macht's Curse Di-Agoldze while fighting Solitaar.

@@jonaldcruz333 tbf I said pushed to her limit instead of past. Plus Solitär also stated that this was her first time in mortal combat which is essentially a deathmatch. You’re not wrong about the analysis, but it debatable whether or not you can say Frieren is holding back cuz of it. So technically the title is pretty accurate while sounding intriguing 😅
@adamwu456511 күн бұрын
@@ZephyrRetro The analysis of Diagoldze was part of Frieren's combat strategy from the beginning of the fight. So I would say that the fact that she was doing it during the fight cannot count as an argument that she wasn't pressed to her limits by the fight. It was part of what she knew she had to do to win the fight. The effort she devoted to it would be included within that definition of "limit".

Having more focus by not splitting her focus with analyzing the gold spell would only of helped if Frieren saw an avenue to defeat Solitarre which she did not. Working on the avengers es that you have already envisioned even though that requires faith in your comoanions still being alive was still the right thing to do. Focus doesn't help if you have no ideas to focus on.

The fight with Solitar both reinforces and refutes the earlier comment by Serie that Frieren is “unskilled for her age”. Here Frieren faces an opponent who is close to her equal in age and mana strength. And it is clear that she is significantly outclassed in combat skill and mana control. But she wins by using non-combat abilities that Serie did not value.

Lol no, watch the fight again. None of Frieren's spells could pierce through Solitar. Frieren was also at full power during the fight, she literally gambled her victory by hoping Fern is still alive and would assist her by sniping Solitar. Aura fought Frieren to make Frieren look good but Frieren fought Solitar to make Solitar look good.

An important thing to remember is that their fight with Qual was near the beginning of their like, 10 year journey to fight the Demon King. In 10 years they gained tons of battle experience and deadly tactics. After the Demon King was dead Frieren had to wait for Qual to wake up.

From Flamme's statements about how Demon society is organized we can surmise that the Demon King had the strongest mana of all the Demons. But given how each Demon has its own unique magic that they hone and perfect and is not imitated by any other demon, we can also surmise that there is a lot of rock-paper-scissors type match-up interplay when considering Demons fighting each other one-v-one. Some of the Sages may well have special abilities that would give them an advantage in a solo fight with the Demon King. But they would still defer to the Demon King because of the Demon King's greater mana, because that is the nature of Demons. Plus, if we really think about it and examine the various interactions that we know of regarding the Demon King, the Demon King isn't really much of a "King". His authority over the other top tier Demons is quite tenuous. There are LOTS of top Demons that go about declaring they "don't care about the Demon King or what he says" and they flout/ignore/ abandon halfway his orders over and over again. And every time he tries to get a group of Demons to cooperate together on some bigger mission or plan, there's always at least one of them that goes "meh, I'm not really into this. I'm leaving". And as far as we can tell, there is no negative repercussions forthcoming from the Demon King when that happens. He isn't leveraging his superior mana or superior power to actually punish or discipline his subordinates when they don't follow his orders. From a political standpoint, the Demon King really isn't functioning like a King, but more like a tribal "Big Man". He's stronger than all the other Demons, and they recognize his strength and respect it and defer to him, but only to a point. He has no real power to MAKE them do things he wants them to do. He can only persuade them, and they may or may not go along with that persuasion, and again, only up to a point. And the magnitude of his superiority over the other top tier demons is probably not huge. He's likely only somewhat stronger than the second strongest Demons serving under him. All this would be consistent with how Demons and their nature are portrayed. Demons are instinctively solitary creatures and social organization and hierarchies do not come naturally to them. They do not cooperate anywhere near as well as humans can. And a monarchy-level style government is a pretty advanced type of social organization that requires a LOT of very sophisticated cooperation to maintain. It's a very "human" type of organization. Demons not being actually capable of it, even if they adopt the names of the relevant titles, and having the actual functioning of their society more in line with less sophisticated, tribal level types of hierarchies, would make sense.
