@aidenapple7780 they had a legit reason for adding skulls, they wanted to make it not similar to rogue where the ps allowed people to experiment to the point where everyone had stupid techs and caused the skill ceiling to rise hella fast. Just didn't implement it properly ig + the fact that deep is just a way less dangerous game so people be experimenting in the overworld anyways

The skull system is a left over mechanic from verse one, chime used to be a high risk high reward for gaining luck in verse one because rare and legendary cards were damn near unobtainable via normal gameplay. After they removed luck in verse two they for some reason left the skull system even though chime is not more like type soul ranked rather than a method of progression

3:16 as a top 250 chimes player, we actually get a relatively niche feature that was implemented to help counteract “chime dwellers” from practically pub stomping at the start of an elo reset. In short, the system makes it so that the higher elo you are at the end of the month, the higher elo you will start with in the next month. This seems all well and good until you consider that it only applies (to my understanding) at around 1300 elo. This means there’s a 400 elo gap that is closed every month between the higher and skill players which, as you can imagine, leads to an utter massacre of lower skill players. This is made even worse due to the chime skulls system. One of my friends is relatively low elo at about 950 as of the last reset. He told me he literally could not play chimes for the first week of a month due to all the higher skilled players being shoved into his lobbies. He further told me that if he did play within that first week it was highly likely he would lose all his matches and be sent to depths instantly. Its funny how deepwoken devs can not only force lower elo players into a losing fight, but then also punish them for losing said fight.

Rag added skulls and doesnt want to remove them because "it would just be like rogue private servers and nobody would play the main game" except most players in rogue still played maingame, deepwoken with its consistent updates had a reason to be constantly playing in main game, and the players still only play chime, they just stop playing when they run out of skulls, making skulls an addition that makes the game even worse off than if they werent there for everyone

skulls is just dumb, with the points you mentioned and also higher elo players just asking the other to dodge. meaning we have the problem again, it's a massive problem for new players but pro players don't feel the problem. meaning it might never get fixed and eclipse is basically the only hope for that. cuz if a new player would encounter these issues and complain about them they'd just get bombarded by pro's saying how you should just do this and that or to just git gud. or they just outright immediatly stop playing.

rag was absolutely kinda right though, although rogue private servers can be fun, they also took a little something out of the game. winning a fight against an ultra for the first time in a private server doesn’t feel the same as doing it in the main game, and now you can just practice your skills in private servers without having to actually learn through actually dangerous scenarios.

@@deadstroyer952People avoiding pvp instead of doing it is a side affect of that, people don’t want to lose the build and since they are trash and pvp isn’t required they just won’t do it, leading to people not playing an essential part of Deepwoken. Unlike rogue pvp isn’t necessary and PvE is enough for most people.

We saw how private servers made rogue players exponentially better at the game with little to no risk, same thing happened in deepwoken. These people never learn. Never.

The worst part is that if a new player were to go into PvP to get better at the combat, they'd then lose twice and then have to fight a boss they don't have enough COMBAT EXPERIENCE TO FIGHT.

​@@sd3kcir471 extend that to having to spent 5 hours replaying the same thing, farming the same mobs for experience and loot, doing countless layer 2 runs that are 100% THE SAME every single time, all to get back to where you were. Permadeath adds risk and is a punishment in the beginning, for new players. It teaches them the cost of taking risks, the rewards, but also it's a learning experience. For experienced players, it's a waste of time and makes the already shallow and uninteresting progression of Deepwoken even worse. This wouldn't be a problem if all progression wasn't just: skip 30% of the game with trial of one, farm minityrsa crypt, farm songseeker, farm hive, do layer 2, congrats build done. I'd say about at least 40-60% of the "content" in Deepwoken is redundant and pointless, you never have any real reason to revisit islands like Miner's Landing or other such places. Progression is a waste of time after the 5th or so build you make. And this has been a thing since early verse 1. The game is an RPG at its core, but it's desperately trying to be a roguelite at the same time.

over 600 hours in deepwoken experience here, this mechanic is probably the reason why i'm still stuck at 500 elo i LOVE hopping in, getting obliterated twice, and then waiting tomorrow!!

been top 250 several times and even at one point reached top 50 on the leaderboards and I still think that chime elo / skulls were the worst addition in the game. ragoozer himself was doing chime and everytime he got sent down to the depths he knew it was tedious and just used commands restoring himself out every single time.

The reasoning for chime skulls is that their previous project, Rogue Lineage, added a similar mode in the form of gamemode called Private Servers, but without any chime skull mechanic. This severely depopulated the maingame and effectively lead to its downfall, as much of the prog was PvP based. As a result, rag promised there would be NO CHIME OF CONFLICT in their next project. However, Roblox being what it is, they had to add chime to keep the game alive. A similar issue has since occurred, where big group battles characteristic of Verse 1 (around first year of release) are fully extinct. As such, people do actively cry that not only are chime skulls not enough, Chime should just be removed outright.

Chime should really not be removed. Consistent PvP prog, practice and competitive fun. You don’t have to worry about game depopulation if you actually update your game instead of just adding trivial garbage no one cares about or not updating it (where is conquest). Plus, PvP is NOT directly tied to progression in this game as it’s not needed, even if your resonance is PvP based you can still do bosses or corrupt enemies at a pretty similar rate. I doubt this would depopulate the main game, just make bad players improve at a faster rate and regular players improve overall due to more practice.

You know, this whole skulls system reminds me of modern day mobile game energy systems. Take last day on earth, it is a zombie survival game where you travel to different locations to get recources to craft gear. But going to those locations takes energy, and once you use up your energy you cant go to locations until it recharges (which takes forever). I can only think of 1 reason why this exists, money. Because you can get energy back by paying or watching an ad. But why it exists in deepwoken? I have no clue, you cant buy skulls back with robux, not yet atleast.

Maybe premium payouts? devs will get money if premium players are in their game, and premium players are more likely to have the robux to buy deepwoken itself. Plus, then they get some more time from them fighting bosses.

I’m for sure not an expert but I think a good idea is instead of adding a new chime game mode add like arenas in some of the major settlements in the game where you can fight other players for notes rewards but with no gripping and being healed to full instead of being knocked. It wouldn’t be that hard to do considering the same thing basically happens with the trainer in vigils. Just that but with PVP I. think it would be a good way to add PVP to the main game instead of a game mode while still giving practice to less experienced players

It’s worth noting, and I’m not seeing anyone else say it.. but You get 3 skulls PER slot, which effectively means you can just switch slots, and depending on how many slots you have (A-Z), you could play a LOT of chime. Which just makes the system sillier, because people who have paid for more slots, can play more chime. Which negates the system entirely.

I remember hearing the reason for chime skulls existing was because the developers didnt want to take away from overworld ganks and fights. Kind of dumb if you ask me. I feel like a good way to keep both sides somewhat happy, would be to have a system that allows you to gain infinite stacks of chime skulls, so people still have to interact with the base game but don't have to worry about getting sent to the depths after only 2 minutes of trying the game mode. For example, turning in medallions for skulls to the drunk guy in song seeker giving you chime skulls across all slots. Or giving him the purple pieces of the forge that spawn randomly so its easier for newer players to gain skulls.

Always loved how they would make excuses for how they’re worried that “it would take away from overworld ganks and fights” while putting zero work into actually incentivizing people into fighting in the overworld (outside of void walker) We learned nothing from rogue 💀

@@theamazinggarbage3209 actually, incentivizing people to kill in overworld is... bad. At least if you go overboard. On rogue you legit get gripped by supers as a freshie with no counter so they can progress. It essentially makes players go kill hundreds of freshies, booting them straight out of the game. (if the exploiters didn't already, at least when I played that mess)

@@rikuleinonen Rogue had that is issue because each stage of the game was poorly balanced between each other, while also practically forcing player into attacking anyone they see. Not even accounting for the lack of later updates and complete shitstorm that was Khei leading to most ultras staying in Gaia, and essentially becoming a nuisance to supers and freshies alike. Im not saying they should make progression more focused towards pvp, but that ganks should be prioritized more, rather than developing these instanced game modes (ie: making titles earn-able in the main game rather than through chime). The games use of power lvls makes it easier to keep stronger players from attacking freshies so they should use that to incentivize max levels to fight outside of chime through enticing rewards.

I'm so glad someone finally said it. I hate those skulls for the life of me and I've played deepwoken since release (I still suck funny enough), and it's the reason why I'd rather just wait for weekends to play the battle royale mode, because I don't get punished by being sent to the depths for losing. I genuinely couldn't care if it has lore implications, because sometimes lore ≠ good gameplay.

They should make chime skulls a rewwarding mechanic not a punishing one instead of being sent to the dephts upon losing all skulls they could make the skulls instead indicate how much loot and how good the loot you get from chime is , if they changed it to something like this not only would it fix the problem of chime loot being worse than lower erisia one but it would also no longer make new players unable to practice pvp and another positive to that change would be that if you are a good player and can keep all your skulls you would be rewarded with great loot.

They should add like in the first 5 to 10 matches you go on Chime of Conflict there are no skulls, working like some rating matches to see how good you already are. The logic is simple: If you won all the 5 rating matches, you start at the Elo system with a higher elo. If you lose 5 rating matches, you start at the Elo system with a lower Elo, and then you actually start playing with skulls and all. I don't have much space to argue about it since I'm horrible at pvp (I blame it by being from Brazil and having no good ping while also in Chime Matches not having a ping compensator >:( ) , but that's what kinda sounds fair to introduce new players to hell / deepwoken PVP.

The skulls in general are a bad idea there is no reason to keep them even after you get minimal experience. The new players will still more than likely get stomped into the floor 5 times and then the entire system is the exact same as before

the point of chime for most people is to test out their builds/skill without dying from ganking others, what would they do if they have 1 arena skull left then, they finished progressing the build and they don't want to gank, there is nothing to do then and ending up just not playing the game

I think it would be a cool mechanic to make it so that if you are a top like 250 or 500 player is when the skulls come into effect so that more casual players that arent as good can still enjoy the mode fighting people their level and then the more competitive people still have a reason to not lose a bunch aswell as if they just refined the skull system with your complaints like it not showing when you get a skull back etc.

Chime of Conflict Skulls was added for people wanting, "Luck", a system that helped people get Rare/Legendary Cards to improve their build. Luck was a feature shown on the bottom right of your screen. This value had a maximum of 45% and a minimum of 25%. Having Luck allowed you to draw Rare and Legendary Talents, which would greatly impact your character's build. To gain additional Luck, you needed to either, Kill another player to steal their luck, a Boss, Any Monster with HP above 1,000 gave 1% luck, Corrupted Mob in the depths which gave a good amount of luck, Artifacts turned in gave 16% Luck, and lastly the fishing which getting a Gold Fish gave some yummy Luck too. This was one of the reasons why it was added and it was good until it got removed from Verse 2 The biggest reason for me wanting it to be REMOVED which I agree with you Eclipse is improving yourself in PvP Let's say you want to get used to your build/attunement or find what find out what matches the playstyle you want. You would GO into Chime of Conflict with 3 intact skulls, but then you lose 3 times and you get sent to depths. Guess what? You decide to get out and go into chime again and repeat the process of losing and getting out until your mind goes *BOOM* You lose motivation and you get off from playing the game cause you either got Cheesed or hard GAPPED due to the other person having more PvP experience than you. It's quite obvious that YOU the player will go back into doing PvE stuff like getting loot, exploring to gain experience, etc. The only two options the new player has is "Void walking" which isn't very helpful cause you get sent to depths pretty quickly from dying to people in the Voidheart (Max levels or decently high-level players) or from losing to their bounty then you get sent to depths. By the way, Voidwalker Origin has a part to play for Luck as it was the easiest way to gain a quick amount of it for PvP players. The second one is Chime of Conflict where you are given 3 skulls but nowadays low-level players don't bother heading in there and you get matched with a Max level player. Then again, it results in the same conclusion which is being sent to the depths. The healthiest way to improve yourself is legit sparring with guild members or friends and then going into Chime of Conflict every so often to be consistent. Guild members or Friends who have the most experience will be able to give tips and guide you to taking the right steps forward. Especially if they have builds that can lead into combos or possibly True Combos where the enemy's key for venting will be disabled for a short time. ( *Ahem* Ragoozer I'm looking at you cause you said Venting in Verse 2 would get you out of any combos.) Yet again, we are brought back to the Chime Skulls which hinder the player's growth in PvP. Guess what? As you see Eclipse killing the ferryman and getting a skull back, he hops into the chime again only to lose and repeat the cycle. See where I'm getting at? When people start to actually see the bigger picture, after a certain amount of time. They start to have an unhealthy relationship with the Chime of Conflict. In the end, my honest answer is to just remove the skulls to allow new PvP players to grow and get into any new PvP content.

You're talking about late stage luck, let's talk about even before. When luck wasn't even shown and you had literally no idea to know it existed other than with particles that had no names and testers like Agamatsu and such would tell us that those particles were luck. If it wasn't for that we'd have no idea that an invisible, decisive stat like luck was in the game. Anyways, Chime was added before the luck rework(what you mentioned in your comment) , chime was added at the same time as trial of one because people were tired of progressing and people were tired of getting ganked by random bored people. Just wanted to specify the origins.

To explain why chime ever even had skulls back in verse 1 aka when the game was new people would use it to progress by fighting other people and the devs added the skulls so they wouldn’t just play chime most of there progression. Though annoyingly when asked for it to be removed they say that it’s to keep people in the overworld but the only thing PvP wise to do in the overworld is attack random people. So yeah the chime skulls are super outdated and for some reason the devs still don’t remove them.

This mechanic seems wrong or something, I don't know. Should have just removed the skulls. PVP in deepwoken should be something to learn, not something that you avoid because you keep getting punished for trying with a risk of getting wiped.

In my personal opinion, I like the idea of chime skulls I think it has the potential to be turned into something great it's just the devs executed it poorly because in this instance of the mechanic it serves no purpose than to just make the gamemode tedious however I think it would be cool to add two sub-gamemodes for Chime, Competitive and Casual if you play the Casual version it would just be regular chime without the skulls nothing would change not the loot or the maps now we need to address the incentives as to why you would want to play Chime specifically the competitive version in the Competitive version of chime the loot would buffed by alot and EXP gain is increased giving players a reason to play but that isn't enough the devs should add items and weapons to the lootpool that are exclusive to chime and aren't tradeable or bankable so you couldn't get your hands on the items without risking anything maybe after winning a competitive match I could get something called the "Warbringers Axe" or a new set of "Warbringer" armor/outfits that add interesting new mechanics like the immortal helmet or the deep delver armor that lets you parry otherwise unparryable attacks or a new set of "Warbringer" equipment in the chest however if they were to do this it would best to add an entirely new weapon and equipment tree just for chime and it would be dubbed the "Warbringer" family tree of items something similar to the "Kyrsguard" weapon family or something similar that is relative to the theme of chime of conflict also for the skulls in competitive if you lose all three you could just either wipe (Not recommended) or instead of getting sent to layer 1 you get sent to layer 2 with no lighthook regardless of how much time you have and when you get sent to the layer you spawn in a random location in layer 2 not always in the original spot I think this would be good to implement because it rewards players who are knowledgeable about the map and incentizes people to explore layer 2 more however if they were to do this they would need to fill layer 2 with more mobs, hazards and player interactions so it just isn't devoid of anything to do besides be the same speedrun type of dungeon crawler a good example would be how empty and devoid of anything firfire caverns is besides being a "Door opener" also when you beat chaser or go escape through the drill it gives you the option to either spawn you in castle rock or wherever your spawn point is in the overworld so it isn't tedious and you don't have to go through layer 1 to just to escape from the depths that is my solution to the chime problem. 🎉

I agree that chime skulls need to be removed but you'll last longer in fights if you get better at the game... chime is a sweatfest so if you go with a nonoptimal build you'll need to do 3 times as much, heck maybe even more than the other guy to beat him, just like a tcg deepwoken is also about builds, where they dictate the flow of your gameplay. It's annoying being sent to the depths but it's not as annoying as having to do your build from scratch because you wiped so you can use chime as your training wheels for overworld pvp.

also, humanoid bosses aren't even affected by DVM multipliers (chaser, maestro, duke) so fundamentally they're similar to pve builds when it comes to bossing. but in all honesty the main answer to this problem is just "get better" just keep getting out of the depths, keep wiping, keep creating new builds that fit your playstyle more, keep getting more knowledge about the game so you don't last 30 seconds per fight and actually have a chance on winning vs a sweaty opponent

Just like ganking in overworld if you die you go to the depths, only that's after three times. you even get all skulls back if you win once, even if you're at 1 skull. annoying? yeah, but I think they dont like risk free pvp, because they removed most ways to get out of combat unharmed (getting out of combat using chime of conflict, diluvian exit now requires you being out of combat, even battle royale is temporary (which I think is bs people barely play that))

I see your point but in most cases (not all of course) it’s quite easy to join non-comp guilds or even just randoms where you can safely spar. When starting i joined a guild with people willing to 1v1 a bunch and this helped a lot!

Not everyone wants to be in a guild or search for one just to practice pvp though. Especially if you didn't happen to have discord or couldn't even chat in-game because you're on xbox. That might not be too common, but at the same time why not just make it easier for people to participate in the system immediately than make them train outside it or circumvent it?

The thing i love about gaining skulls from bosses is that pvp builds can not do it but they don't need to do it while pve builds can get them and they come back get washed and go back again at gaining skulls from bosses. In the end this pity update is borderline useless.

Over 1k elo here, playing in chime is probably the most fun and the most annoying experience i have ever felt in playing a video game. In one situation you are destorying everyone making your way to 1k elo and then some kid with a fucking cheese build brings you down to 800 again. Not to mention the game puts you up against people 200 elo above you.

The devs won’t change this because they need people to go to depths because the more you go to depths the more likely you are to wipe and the more likely you are to wipe the more likely you are to buy a restore which is a major money maker. They WANT you to gamble and go to depths and wipe a build you spent hours on

good points, but i’ll have to disagree here. chime is not supposed to be the training wheels you put on to get used to the pvp - you’re supposed to learn pvp through fighting people in the overworld (at least, that’s the way i see it). running chime all day just to get better at pvp sounds boring and draining. the deepwoken experience should not be just repeatedly fighting 1v1s in enclosed rooms until you’re good enough at the game to actually fight people in the real game. if chime was something you could just grind infinitely, all the new players would be too scared to play the actual game to improve their combat abilities since they could wipe, and instead would just keep playing chime. also, chime rewards you with chests and bell progress, and although they aren’t very significant rewards, it’s still a factor. if they made chime infinitely replayable, they would have to remove all the rewards, which i’m not sure how i feel about.

chime would be the only good way to learn pvp. fighting voidwalkers is too irregular to learn anything form it actually, and also voidwalkers are 9/10 higher level and higher skill than you. fighting randoms is just an asshole move to do. going voidwalker yourself actually helps alot because it's easy enough and regular intervals, but you have to first get voidwalker. also if voidwalkers weren't that annoying (making you lose a life and interrupting your normal gameplay, with again, more levels and skill than you) then people wouldn't be that forced into pvp.

The problem is here is that there is no onboarding, and there is very few options for newer players to get better without help from other people, fighting in the overworld you can just get ganked by 3 guys, voidwalkers, or some lard demon thats been playing since rouge, and ganks freshies. Yes chime grinding would be boring bring attention away from the overworld I agree, but there are way better ways of practicing pvp Maybe one can be where chime 1v1s is on a weekly rotation between different game modes such as team battles or capture the hill, battle royal to keep it fresh. @@Fancyish7 okay i have 2k+ hours on deep and i'd say im pretty advanced in pvp but i think that making chime no consequence no would do overworld pvp as chime has no lag good ping and its 1v1 causing overworld to be less and less used why would i pvp in overworld where i can wipe and lose items everydeath while if chime had no consequence i gain all benefits with 0 drawbacks

I made a suggestion in the Deepwoken discord about adding another way to get your chime skulls back besides escaping the depths and stacking up drowns OR just reducing the 24 hour cooldown on chime skulls to something like 1-3 hours, and it got 55 likes, and then they added the kill a boss for a chime skull back feature that next weekly. It wasn't EXACTLY what I had in mind, but I think there's still a lot of people including me who appreciate it, as seen with the 55 likes, as I can just sit at ferryman and do chime matches until im down to 1 skull and then do ferryman once or twice since it's not that much of a bother for me and it'd also be a way to farm idols and stuff, and then I can hop back in chime. but overall i hate the skulls system.. it's stupid

I think the biggest problem with deepwoken, is they try to find ways to make it harder for the player. They dont actually consider the enjoyment of the community. I’m somewhat new to playing again and this time decided to do chimes… the skulls are stupid.

Don't forget that when the developers play chimes, they lose 3 skulls in a row then use a command to escape the depths, they aren't actually experiencing what players experience. So when they want to play more than 6 matches in a row, they use commands to instantly escape, but when we went to do that, we have to spend time leaving the depths which could've been used to get better at PvP.

I didn’t touch chime because of skulls. It’s so tedious. I really want to improve in ranked but i do not have the time in my life for that system. (Plus I don’t think I’ve met a single person who didn’t day skulls are a horrid and useless system)

I know there will be a lot of people saying "skill issue" in your comments. Also instead of just taking the skulls out, just make it so the skulls exist after a certain point in progressing chime (say, the skulls system appears after 1k elo and disappear once you go under that elo). Sure, people CAN abuse this system but at least you're still able to PvP whilst not having the ever looming threat of not being able to play chime for another 10 hours This also allows for the "Hardcore" aspect of the game to apply for people who want to climb the higher ranks of chime

Loosing notes when you get hit, having 0 armor, taking so much dmg from ferryman, having the most random mantras. yup, cant wait for the W rank build :D

In my opinion i think there could be 1 and only 1 reason why the devs thought this was a good idea. Amongst the group of normal players are the players as said in your very own video, ask the player to leave BEFORE the match even starts so they can continue playing. I think this was the way of the devs trying to say "well if you wanna stop asking people to literally fucking fall over and die to get a skull back.. fight a boss with your PVP build and stop asking." which is not really the best thing to have but.. i mean we cant fix it unless they remove it so 🤷

its the same with the voidwalker mechanic as well, this community constantly puts ""skill"" and ""difficulty"" over fun and fairness for newer players

Even high elo chime players like Nogo tell people to dodge when he's on 1 skull to get his skulls back (If you leave the game before the countdown finishes, you won't lose a skull while your opponent gets a skull back)

They aren’t fully committed to chime cuz if they remove skull everyone would only be playing chime and not gank in overworld and shit

Ok, I know this doesn't have to do a lot with the video, and I REALLY don't want it to sound like your average "Skill issue" comment but... What the hell is that build???, Like, While I do agree with the video (Skulls aren't well implemented tbh) you can't really go to chime with a build like that and expect to win, (Or atleast not if you aren't a parry demon/below 500 elo) im pretty sure that gamemode was designed to be played with a maxed build once you reach power 20 (maxed in equipment, not only stats), with things like, a master armor, a decent/mediocre hp kit, a few mantras and a decent weapon. As a tip, try to get an Enforcer axe on that "build", it has almost the same requirements as the Evanspear while having a WAY better crit and dmg output in general. anyways I really hope they do something about skulls
