Gobert being a "liability" on perimeter was never a thing. He was guarding iso on the 3pt lane while thinking at running back in the paint because his team was trash defensivly. Basically he was trying to be at 2 place at once. Now he can focus on his direct matchup because he can trust every single player in his team. I think he is not just a decent perimeter defender, but an elite one.

It wasn’t cause Rudy couldn’t guard on the perimeter- it was because Utah didn’t have the perimeter defenders that Minnesota does
@eanbenjammin20327 ай бұрын
“Gobert has guarded decently well” come on man give him more props than that. He’s shutting these 3 ELITE scorers down in iso situations. The three combined are shooting lower than 40 percent when gobert is guarding them. I’m not kidding when I say gobert is an elite perimeter defender on switches. Rudy is a top 10 player in the nba in terms of having an impact on winning but people will continue to follow the old narratives of “can’t play in the playoffs” and “can’t guard on the perimeter” like yourself a year ago when you were absolutely hating on gobert
@totallydougie93867 ай бұрын
Dude does not like Goebert. I think he just goes off of narratives mostly.
@LeviAvstin7 ай бұрын
Gobert as a liability on the perimeter was more a product of how bad the perimeter defense was in Utah more than Gobert’s inability to guard in the perimeter. Was forced to guard his guy on the perimeter but also guard the rim because his teammates couldn’t hold up. This roster compliments one of the all time great defenders and he rises their level on defense.
@donaldw123187 ай бұрын
Fastest way to out yourself as a casual is to think gobert can’t guard on the perimeter. Check his iso defensive stats. Lol did you just say if they do that, they’ll be the best defense by far when they had the largest gap between first and second on defense in a decade and second in 25 years. C A S U A L

Gobert has always been able to guard adequately on the perimeter - the key is that with the Jazz, their perimeter players were such bad defenders, that other players would just blow past them almost every play, so Gobert either had to defend the paint or leave his man open, he couldn’t do both. In that game against the Clippers, every time Mann scored was the result of Reggie Jackson or another player blowing past his defender forcing Gobert to help or allow an open layup. With the Timberwolves, Gobert can afford to guard at the perimeter because everyone else is able to actually defend their man

it was never that Gobert couldn't guard the perimeter, it was that he didn't trust his guys to cover the paint so he never fully committed to contesting shots. if he did go out, the basket was wide open if they just swung the ball. this narrative that Rudy couldn't guard the perimeter is the the thing of casuals.

Couldn't agree more. In Utah their second best defender was Royce O'Neil. But after that, when your perimeter is Mitchell and Bogdanovich your asking to get scored on. MN has Jaden, Ant and NAW. Very big difference. Wolves 5 all play D. When he was on Utah it was just 2 out of the 5 playing D. Case closed. Narrative wrecked and put to bed.

The whole narrative about Gobert not being able to guard on the perimeter was so dumb. Utah’s perimeter defense was so bad even though they had Conley and D Mitch but they couldn’t rotate at all so that forced Gobert to do so damn much and it became overwhelming. "They're okay with giving up midrange 2s" Except they aren't. The Timberwolves are guarding the hell out of PHX on every level of the court. FFS PHX is needing to set screens in the backcourt to get the ball across the timeline. The Suns' Big 3 is not explosive enough to get by the Wolves POA defenders on the perimeter, which keeps MIN out of rotation.

I think this is more about the Suns offense than the Wolves defense. The suns are playing without a single playmaker and are basically playing 4 SGs in their starting line-up, considering that KD basically is playing almost exclusively on the perimeter nowadays. How is that supposed to work, it makes absolutely no sense. They are totally predictable and are very easy to defend, KD, Booker and Beal all turned into very one-dimensional scorers that all do very similar things.

There's a reason for that. The Suns can't handle the defensive intensity, and they're cracking under the pressure of it all. This isn't the regular season. You play matchups, and Suns got outcoached and outplayed the last two games. True test is game 3 if the Wolves can keep it up.
