So many times he catches the ball and decides he's making a drive, but waits 3 seconds for the defense to get ready.

Defensive effort wise he's gotten better but in comparison to ANT whose explosiveness in scoring is more rewarding, KAT's offense still reminds me of a hyper efficient 3-and-D wing. I love that the solution to the endless pick and roll in 5-out space era is the opposite of soft switching, smart and out-working perimeter wing defenders fighting over screens. Timberwolves is so fun to watch, they are like the actualized version of Orlando with best rim protector in the NBA on top of that.

Yeah I noticed those missed opportunities that game. Main reason why Wolves can do this is because Suns just don't have any elite passers. Watched the game and there were just so many missed opportunities like: would have been easy layups and dunks that Booker, Durant, and Beal just can't read or manipulate. If it was against a team that has an elite passer or shot creator on the level of a Lebron, Jokic, Luka, or Haliburton, that hyper aggressive style of defense would be punished a lot and exploited. Overall, 15 super easy points were totally missed just because Suns stars don't have that player that has Hawk eye court vision and high level game manipulator. And lastly, Suns just have 1 style to beat opponents and that is overload on midrange and 3s. If they shot well, they can beat this team, but if they don't, goodluck to them.
@4Kamm7 ай бұрын
I think there purposely playing them hyper aggressive like this because they have no point and ate us in the midrange every regular season game this year. rudy usually doesn't play this high or switch in isolation however since nurkic is not a threat it better to put than pressure on their big 3

Defense has been so underrated and underused in this era of the NBA. I think defense is making a comeback and these new younger players are showing signs of it. I remember when superstars werent just known for offense but defense as well (80s and 90s). The era of team-stacking is coming to an end. Offense heavy teams do not always work. I think the phrase "defense wins championships" is coming back and its great to see. It makes the game more balanced and watchable.

As a basketball fan... how could anyone not marvel at the defensive masterclass the TWolves are displaying. Ant, NAW, JMcDaniels are like a trio of dobermans on the perimeter. And to add insult to injury... you have Gobert on the interior patrolling the paint and he is nimble and quick enough do guard on switches on the perimeter. And btw, Conley was an all-defense team once upon a time in his prime, but he still a capable defender. KAT can defend but he picks quick fouls and something he should work on. As a long time Lakers fan... I am SO jealous, lol! If the Lakers had one capable perimeter defender... (sigh...)

This is kind of a sad way for KD to go out. His foot is on the line for game 7 of the Nets, and runs out of gas in overtime. He gets swept by the Celtics who get dominated by Curry. Then he goes to the Suns where the defense is bad to the point where Jokić eats them alive. Dude literally drops 53 and 11 assists in one game. So the Suns try to get yet another superteam while having no understanding of the fact that KD operates best with a point guard on the floor (if they can do anything they REALLY need to go after Tyus Jones in free agency), and now after making the playoffs he's getting absolutely hounded by Ant. I really hope this isn't how is career ends.

@marox5450 He left OKC, then left Golden State, Brooklyn imploded. Each decision led to where he is now. Presti's shown to be a great team builder given time, and Golden State would've been the favorites in the West even now with KD. Instead he helped form a "super team" in Brooklyn, and when that failed he asked for a trade that got him to Phoenix.

This is some of the best on ball defense I’ve ever seen from a team but I am a bit worried that the immense effort required to play this viciously on the defensive end will tire them out over the course of the playoffs. Hopefully they can somehow keep it up

Floor general at the 1 Fisher / Conley Combo Scorer at the 2 Kobe / Edwards 2 Way wings Ariza, Artest / McDaniels, Alexander Walker Stretch 4 Pau (at this time deep 2s) / KAT Defensive Center Bynum / Gobert Elite PF/C of the Bench Odom / Reid of course players are not the same but in a way they have quite some similarities :D

I don't really have a dog in this race, but how legal is all of this? Like there are plays where players can't dribble because there is literally an arm across them preventing them from moving a particular direction. Like at 0:10 Ant is reaching into Beal's space without even getting a hand on the ball. I'm all for giving the defense more leeway but its hard to imagine any player managing to do a lot in a situation like this.

At the end of the day. The Timberwolves are doing a great job of not allowing Phoenix to get into any rhythm or routine. Even those pull up jumpers off the pick and roll drop coverage all the analysts said would be open are contested. The McDaniels clip at the 7:15 mark is bonkers

Good thing you mentioned the importance of team mates perimeter defense to amplify Gobert's interior defense because for me, this two types of defense amplifies each other. If Timmy didn't have good-great perimeter teammates, if Kahwi didn't have Timmy and Marc Gasol, if Mj and Pip have soft teammates, if Olajuwn and Dwight in Magic dont have scrappy teammates, we will not view them as top tier defensive players. The will be viewed like Marion and Kirilenko.

That was always the case with how to build sound playoff caliber defenses. Masai's roster building for the 18-19 Raps along with Lakers 19-20 are recent good blue prints of having really good plus wing defenders and having a talented defensive big anchor things. The Warriors defenses from their last 3-4 champion runs are also good reference but their roster had shorter versatile defenders.

Wolves are the toughest match-up for the Nuggets in the entire league, they can put so much pressure on Jokić and Jamal.
