I have watched countless videos on double stroke rolls and the blushda, and it wasn't until I looked at your videos that I came away knowing what was being explained. Thank you for your videos and insight..

Steve, I watched your video on the Blush-da almost a decade ago. I enjoyed the video and got the concept, but had a hard time getting my hands to cooperate. Every so often for years, I would revisit your video and hit the same wall afterward as I tried it on the kit. While I could do the basic lick, it wasn't sounding good. Today I revisited your video again and saw this one. After years of struggling with this lick, I finally got it today. Your updated video explained the lick even better than your first video and that coupled with improved skill on my end and now I can play this lick. Thank you for both videos on this lick and I look forward to viewing some of your other videos.

Somewhat related... I spent the last year or more almost daily working on Steve's Double-Stroke Roll Phrasing ideas. It took an entire year because my doubles were that bad to start. Anyway now that I have some decent (not perfect) Double-Stroke Roll Phrasing under my belt, fills like the Blushda are within reach. Those Double-Stroke Roll Phrasing lessons completely changed my ability to move forward. Thanks, Steve!!

The bass drum under the ride in combination with the loose flam really fills out the sounds and helps to make it much more cohesive, (in my opinion) with whatever song it's being implemented into. Your technique is phenomenal... along with your playing, of course. I only started watching drum videos more recently.I thought I was pretty good until I did, how aout that senri kawaguchi?, like Hello Kitty meets Vinnie Colaiuta ) but I've never seen such fluidity and perfectly hand movement like yours. Maybe it's that molar technique one hears about. When you mentioned that your first blushda video went viral (I would have called it lud -n-lud, lud-n-lud ....but it's too late ) i was suddenly reminded of a movie I saw in the sixties, when I was a kid. it was a real square Dragnet type of drama. The cops were investigating a string of mysterious deaths in the wake of these hippies half out of their minds on something, traveling around in their school bus with some Bongos, which unbeknownst to them (in their over- the-top giddy revelry), are an otherwise silent carrier of hepatitis...B I think it was, as the tainted tom's went promiscuously hand-to-hand, from one group of hapless indiscriminate hippies to the next... anyway yeah, viral drum videos was the segway

Hi Steve hope you are well! I finally got this lick feeling fluid....It took me like a year, then I practiced it for about 20 minutes every morning for a week,,,, Covid has allowed this! Anyway....best video out there on this subject....And yes, it can be endless....I am hoping you may do Blushda part three.... Anyway, here is my question.... Opening up that flam and staying on the grid.....Do you think of that right hand not almost as a pick up beat (starting before the one (The left flam accent landing on the one (first note of the grid) ?
@SteveHolmesDrums4 жыл бұрын
I would say whatever kind of flam it is- that hand is the note that needs to be on the grid. Left-handed = right is the grace not, left is the actual note that needs to be on the grid, and the opposite.
