Honestly, the fact that Diddy's been at least high tier in every Smash game since Brawl (which is only 3 games but still) proves that you can never make a character with free bananas bad

@@doobi6343 It's true he was definitely buffed a lot over the course of the game (excluding the obvious banana nerfs in 8.0.0 and 11.0.0), but he was still a pretty strong character at the start, probably top of mid tier at the start of Ultimate. And honestly, having a character's worst performance be upper mid tier at the start of a new Smash game is still a lot better than what a good handful of the cast can say

ZSS as well pretty good in brawl, pretty damn scary in Smash4 and even nerfed after that still good in this game, its difficult to make a character with that kind of mobility bad unless there's some amount of ludicrously low hitstun and no confirms, because without you still have that brazy neutral

Hot take: 60+ characters in this game can be argued for high tier and above. Most tier lists really come down to popularity & results. That's not a bad thing of course, but a lot of characters just don't have good players 'cause there's so many of them. We see characters jump up on lists all the time just due to one player going off.

Time for some takes: - Low High Tier is Ultimate's Middle Mid Tier - Min Min is top 5 - Sephiroth is top 10, probably even better than that - Sonic will do incredibly well offline and will probably end up in a similar position to his Smash 4 self - With the addition of Pythra and Kazuya, people will develop more campy playstyles in tourney and we'll probably see even more of a shift towards campy gameplay overall

Steve best character, fight me. The potential with block setups and combos is insane it’s just no one actually takes him there. Side special is literally the best in the game. Good recovery if you know how to use it. The amount of technique you can get out of this character is insane. Honestly I’d say he’s the best character by far if someone decided to take him there.

I think Hero is SUPER underrated. Sometimes you just die to his Smash attack at 20% and his down b is amazing because most of his options from it are amazing and if they aren’t amazing they are still good. Most of his good moves are frame 6 like Kaboom. The fact that he has so many good moves from his down b and his specials in general, I feel he’s really good even with his bad disadvantage.

I think my hottest tier list take is, hear me out, that snake is the best character in the game and our brains aren’t big enough to show what he’s capable of. Grenade is frame 2 and can get him out of some true combos, movement is insane, out of shield option, insane recovery, he has the tool kit to play him however you feel like playing that day, he can camp, zone, box, be in your face, edge guard some characters with one move every time, ledge trap very well, good throws, combos off of every single explosive, and C4 exists.

Incineroar is a high mid tier character One of the best kits, rly good frame data, can get free tech chases on platforms, kills mad early, rly good combos, kill confirms past 180, Revenge, has combo breakers, has landing mix ups with up b, good oos options, good burst option, good advantage state (includes ledgetrap), good recovery mix ups. Only weaknesses that he has are his speed, recovery is exploitable, but not as much as people think it is, can struggle in disadvantage and he’s still combo food. I’m optimistic and what are you going to do about it? Fun fact, it’s hard to do the Luigi 0 to death on him for some reason

Why do people think ganon is fun? He's slow, gets bullied, no unique recovery routes, not a single combo, nor does he represent his franchise in any way. Kazuya is enjoyable because he had combos you can master and movement tech to help him out a bit. Bowser is ganon with light armor and speed. Ganon has NOTHING. EVERYTHING fun about ganon is on another character and more fun. He's made for people who can't handle any playstyle faster than byleth

K my hot take or whatever is that Little Mac is not low tier at all. Larry’s inclined to give belmonts a nod because they shit on particular matchups/can invalidate characters how do you think a character does against Mac when they have to approach. Dude armors through whatever he wants does a lot of % and his passive ability is that you only get to play with two stocks; his recovery is obviously bad but I’ve seen more than enough successful recoveries where Mac was in blastzone radar and made it back to ledge. I’ve never understood why a character so fast and strong, and so overtuned in a lot of his kit (even if it doesn’t compensate for his weaknesses) could be considered as low as people say he is. There’s no way he’s the lowest of the lowest tier it’s just not possible Edit: I’d also like to toss in the idea that stagelist trends do a lot of the damage for the character’s viability rather than the character himself. We just happen to have stagelists that can easily be struck down to only include platform-heavy stages which is circumstantial but griefs Mac really hard. Imagine we had a few more stages that were, for the most part, flat stage and bad for camping or that didn’t provide much vertical protection. What god would save you then when you can’t get tf away from the character. And no I’m not overhyping him he can still get robbed and die at early % which sucks but he’s deep into the stronger part of mid tier at least.

Hate that whenever someone says Incineroar is higher than low/bottom tier, it's considered to be such a hot take. He's mid and always has been, while only getting slightly better over and over time because of balance buffs. He's gotten great results and people just love to skip over that and say he "has no results" when people don't look for them. There's a huge ass difference between having bad results with a lot of "good players" playing the character and the character having somewhat consistent results, but not looking for said results because it's on a "'bad character'" and are not out in the open

Hi resident Dr. Mario Player, he's ABSOLUTELY bottom 3 The man's frame data is good but his combo potential is terrible. His reflector is too slow to deal with speedy zoners like Pacman or Banjo. His speed is awful and his recovery options are short as hell making it super easy to edgegard him. To put it simply, Doc has the speed, power, lack of combo tools, and poor recovery of a heavy-weight, without the launch resistance and large hitboxes a heavy-weight is supposed to have.
