@@FoodIsCrack Actually, the term has its roots in the Texas scene, first as an inside joke between the members of an old crew called the Crystal City Crew. They used the phrase enough as they traveled around to tournaments in the early 00s that the phrase eventually caught on.

Also, you're completely right that the Wombo Combo isn't really the best teams combo in Melee's history. I used to play lots of monster hunter 4U, and Zinogre had an attack where he'd stomp his feet, creating lightning blasts as he advanced towards you. I'd often get get knocked back and stunned by the first stomp, and I could only watch helplessly as he stomped closer before hitting me again. I always referred to that as a wombo combo. There is an old post on the smash subreddit where they claim the audio was not properly synced on the setup and made an (unlisted) video re-sycing the audio and it flows much better. One of the more memorable Wombo Combos to me is in Destiny 1 when The Taken King came out. Nightstalker Hunter throwing a Smoke into a Grenade secured kills almost 100% of the time and pretty quickly too. Became pretty widely known back then as "The Wombo Combo" even though it only took one person to pull it off consistently.

Destiny 1 PVP had a strategy that people called the wombo combo as well. It wasn’t a coordinated effort from multiple players though. It referred to a void Hunter using their grenade and melee charges in combination. The grenade created an AOE fire hazard on the ground and the melee attack was a smoke grenade that did a bit of damage, but more importantly, limited the enemy’s movement. So when used together they dealt considerable damage bc the opponent was trapped in the grenade hitbox.

Going from a Wombo Combo in smash, to looking at whatever the hell is going on in a MOBA, is utterly impossible!!! If you have no idea how to play League or Dota. You will have completely no idea what you're looking at. I'm shocked when people say overwatch looks confusing, but somehow play League and say "it's simpler to understand" . I can't see squat, looking down at some top down 2d ray-man clone. At least use Smite as an example for MOBA's, at least they tried to make the viewing experience possible in 3rd person.

Because League is slow, games last a long time and there’s a lot of build up to these big team fights. In Overwatch, you’re at 100% from the get go and have to keep up with everything. Everything has short cooldown except for a literal immortality field and some barriers and CC. I can see why some people think MOBAs are simpler (personally, I like both styles of game)

MOBAs are significantly harder because although they may be easier execution-wise, understanding how to play the games and what's happening is harder. You actually have to learn how to play a MOBA. MOBA's are in no way simple, they're hard to understand but easy to play and you have to understand them to even play them.
