Another artist from the 50's and 60's you'll love is Roy Hamilton. Suggest songs You Can Have Her, Ebb Tide, and You'll Never Walk Alone.

love that you reacted to The Dells. At one time I had 890 45's and almost 100 albums in my collection. About half rock and half r&b with a handful of country thrown in lol❤

Oh What A . . . CLASSIC! Thank you Liz (and Liz's mom). 🤗 Here's a few more masterpieces from the '50s for your consideration: "My Prayer" (The Platters, 1954), "I Only Have Eyes For You" (The Flamingos, 1959), and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" (The Platters again, 1959). 🙂

I'm not familiar w-your decade series but I am familiar with the doo-wop groups, girl groups, etc. as that's the music I grew up with. I believe the information "Oh, What a Night" is a song first recorded by the doo-wop group the Dells and released in 1956" is correct from what I recall as a young teenager -- '59 sounds a bit too late, even tho' it's just a 3 yr. difference. A major missing component in music that we lost long ago are all the instruments that were a part of this music back then, top of my list is the great saxophone.

1956 is correct -- 3 years before I was born. 😉

You're so very right this world would be a heap a lot better with a return of good music. Perhaps Classic Motown should make a comeback with a new era of soulful romantic music.

Lizzie, so glad you listened to your mom🤗 The Dells are a great group to start with. I was in my last year of elementary school when this came out. They've had a bunch of hits over the 60 years they performed. Songs like Stay in My Corner, Oh What a Night, Always Together, and Give Your Baby a Standing to Ovation to name a few. Another artist from the 50's and 60's I suggest is Roy Hamilton. His voice is amazing! Suggested songs are You Can Have Her, Ebb Tide, and You'll Never Walk Alone. Love your reaction!❤

this is the original 1956 version of this particular song "Oh what a night" there are other songs with the same title but actually different songs. It is unlikely that you have heard this by a different group other than the Dells, who also re-recorded an updated version in 1969

Love your channel and that you are exploring music from decades past… and coming away with a great appreciation of the talent of singers and musicians of those times. A note… The Dells had a hit with “Oh, What A Night” TWICE!! The origin… then the re-arrangement that came out in 1969. Check out the difference.

Yes, this is the original from the 50s. May I suggest that you react to their remake of this same song from 1969 with the same name. It’s a whole new vibe! They hit it out of the park with that one as well. I like their newer version better, although this one is a classic! Please check it out. The Isley Brothers did the same with “who’s that lady”. The big hit was in 1974, the original by them was in 1964. Two different vibes!

They redid this song later on when their vocals were more mature. You should listen to that version.

Awesome!! Love the decades idea!! Try Come Home by the Dave Clark Five 😅

First time visiting your page. I like to say, "This was my mama's music" and I grew up with it. The Dells remade their own song 13 years after this one in 1969. More soulful with Marvin Junior killing the lead and a new falsetto, Johnny Carter. Check that one out too.

There was a live version of the Dells doing “Oh What a Night” that’s excellent but I can’t find it. Marvin Junior the lead singer was one of the best. Check out Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge too.

I would love to see you react to this sensual and buttery song called "What's Come Over Me" by Blue Magic from the 70's. Try the beautiful sweet love song called "I Only Have Eyes For You" by the Flamingos from the 50's. React to Smokey Robinson and the Miracles singing "Fork in the Road" from the 60's.

When ya get ready to spin some '60's, you can't go wrong with The Dave Clark five band " bits and pieces " or "glad all over " .

Scroll to 18:00 you’ll see Eugene Pitt and the Jive Five do “What Time is It”. I’m old enough to have seen these groups live, sadly most of these people have passed on. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYbGm6OeYteDepo

Thanks for this one. Takes me back. If you haven't reacted to these songs, please do a reaction: 1963, Ruby and the Romantics" Our Day Will Come," 1965-66, Len's Barry song, 1,2,3, " and 1962, The Toys song, Lover's Concerto. I'm enjoying your reactions.

They're the only group to remake two of their songs and hit #1 r&b with both versions. You need the later versions of this song and Stay In My Corner. Both are masterpieces and improvements of the original versions. This almost sounds unfinished. 🤷🏿
