The Deluge 4.0 Update is AMAZING (Sequencer Overview)
The Synthstrom Audible Deluge finally received the highly anticipated 4.0 firmware update, and it brings some seriously awesome features! In addition to wavetable synthesis, the sequencer got some very powerful upgrades. You can now use Euclidian sequencing to allow each row of your kit tracks to have independent lengths! In addition to that, you can set the playback of your entire sequence (or individual row on a kit track) to play forward, backward, or ping pong back and forth! This makes the rhythmic possibilities completely endless, and allows the Deluge to be a generative machine. Enjoy the video :)

I think what you're showing here is really polymeters, the Euclidean sequencer is what inserts notes into synth and kit tracks based on the number and offset you specify (pushing and turning the two black knobs as you hold down an audition button).

Came to say the same. The one thing not demonstrated here is the Euclidean sequencer :). Excellent demonstration of the other features though.

@@XtianApi Well the Euclidean sequencer isn't demonstrated here. Video said it was, but I think he just got confused. As for what euclidean sequencing is: it's basically an algorithmic way of generating rhythms that are naturally groovy/hip/musical. They're actually pretty universal to most music, even if the people writing the songs weren't aware they were using them.

That is very, very cool! I love Euclidian sequencing! It's a little harder to visualize what's going on when it's displayed linearly, but there's really not a way to do a circular representation on the grid. Sounds like the only thing that might be missing is the ability to set different numbers of beats per measure per row, meaning that say, the kick row gets 5 beats per measure, the snare gets 4, and maybe the synth gets 6, but all of the tracks measures start and end together. But still, it seems really freaking cool.

@@JakeHaldenVangMusic Yeah, I know the work arounds but keep hoping they will build in a fix instead. @FreeBeat
@FreeBeat 2 жыл бұрын
I suppose they are similar in that the Circuit Tracks can play a sequence backwards or ping pong it, but that's where the similarities end. The Deluge absolutely DESTROYS the Circuit on every level, it's not even close haha. The thing that sets the Deluge apart is that these new sequencer features apply to every row of every track. The Circuit Tracks doesn't even have rows per tracks, for instant each kit has to be its own track. When sequencing melodically on the Deluge, each individual note has its own 16 step sequencer row, rather than being compressed down to a single sequencer like on the Tracks. The grid (and the lack of any silly false limitations) is what takes the Deluge over the top. Adding in these new features just sends into new stratospheres of awesome haha. Thanks for watching!

That's a pretty close-minded view to have. I've been drumming for almost 25 years, both as an amateur and professional, and I still find use for more generative types of sequencing. So many times I've discovered a pattern I like through random means of creation, and then I'll take that to the kit to expand on it. I'm sure many others work that way too.

You can do most of this stuff on the Elektron Model: Samples (guessing the Cycles too, and most likely the DigiTakt), not the Reverse and Ping Pong etc. , but the time signatures and pattern lengths, random chance is all possible. Not dissing the Deluge, it looks incredible, just saying for a lot less you can do most of this.

Not even close. Like comparing a Timbre Wolf to a Moog Matriarch. You should play a Deluge. The Deluge has wayyyyyyy more features than most Elektron gear. If your just making judgements off of a few features in this recent update you are seeing a very small portion of the picture. The product quality of Synthstrom is a lot better than Elektron too. I have had every unit Elektron has produced and most of the times their units have quality issues after about 2 years, my Deluge which is over 5 years old is still running strong. By the way your guessing about the Cycles I would assume you don't have one. If you got a Model Elektron unit instead of a Deluge you would be making a huge gear buying mistake that you will regret for years to come.

I like the proper display on the Elektron stuff, they are fast when it comes to understanding what's going on if you are playing live and built like tanks too - my Octa has been so abused. I'm a fan of DAWLess, for which the Deluge seems well suited, I don't feel it is as playable as an OT, as I don't think I'd be sure sure what each trigger is doing without having to scroll through the parameters individually, but great having the multiple lanes, looks super handy - maybe I'd just need to get use to a different way of working. My absolute favourite sequencer, which I've only had briefly on loan, is the Cirklon, however, they are sooo difficult to get your hands on, long waiting list, expensive, etc, but they really are the best sequencer by a long way.

The thing that sets the Deluge apart is all of the features combined with the sequencer grid, and the fact that there are no false limits. You can have as many tracks as you want, you can make your patterns as long as you want, you can zoom in/out to whatever resolution you want in ALL sequencer modes, even in the arranger view. It's on a completely different level than anything else. Thanks for watching!
