Qual figured out 80 years worth of magic evolution in 1 minute. that's how much of a genius he was. It's like a rank 1 videogame player coming back to a game after years of not playing. their skill is still there, but their accolades are outdated and their gear is old.

Yes I like how they did this as well. Intelligence isn't a measure of what you know, but how you use what you've learned to give yourself an advantage

Yup. He would have been a huge ass problem if Frieren didnt kill him right after unsealing him.

To be fair, the spell the defence magic was mainly invented as a counter for, Zoltrak, was the very magic he invented, so it kinda makes sense that he’d know Zoltrak inside out, including its structure, weaknesses and potential exploits.

@@pizhhhout !!Episode 25/26 big spoilers!! yes, but it’s the speed of him adapting and reacting to it is what’s scary. Remember what Frieren told Fern in the dungeon during the second exam? Long lived mages (assumedly both elves and demons) usually need a lot of time to fully comprehend and react well to newer spells, that’s why specifically Fern’s Zoltraak was able to Kill clone Frieren despite the fact that Frieren herself is one of the main creators of that version of Zoltraak. She effectively got killed by her own spell when you think about it, which is very ironic given we’re discussing Qual right now. He was dealing with even worse stakes than this yet he was still able make himself into a very serious, albeit short threat.

Fun detail: The butterfly clip was selected because of a brief flashback in the last episode. Fern's first spell, which earned her praise from Heiter? Was conjuring illusory butterflies.

5:30 Frieren learned a spell to make grapes sour for Eisen last episode. If nostalgia is your weakness these flashbacks each episode will grab your heartstrings.

If you want to know how old Fern is during the anime just subtract 11 from the years since Himmel’s death. In this episode Fern says that she is 16 years old and that is when it is 27 years since Himmel’s death. When Frieren met Fern at Heiter’s place it was 20 years after the death of Himmel so Fern was 9 at that time.

The amount of little details in the show is rather amazing as well. When watching this episode for the first time you easily miss that the show starts with two seagulls landing on a ship's mast, representing Frieren's and Fern's arrival at the town. When they split up we see the seagulls again, one fluttering away leaving the other bird behind - this represents the actual split up, but also their unity/bond being broken, because of Fern's mistrust. At the end of the story arc we see both seagulls sitting together on the ship's mast again, flying away in unison - Fern and Frieren made it up and leave the town. Adding these little things and symbolisms to discover makes this awesome show even better xD

Qual might have gotten bodied here but the dude was a certifiable genius. Not only were his spells were so advanced that humanity reshaped their entire system of magic around them, but in only a few moments he started understanding the eighty years of advancement in defensive magic that he missed. I think Frieren knew he could have become an absolute menace if she didn't take him out ASAP.

Beneath the soil under Qual there is water which, after Frieren killing the demon, is exposed and it reflects the sky. Himmel in German means sky, so the allusion is that he was right that Frieren will return to kill the demon. Visual story telling masterclass.

3:42 🤔 the black cat 🐈⬛ (in an anime) is a visual representation of Yin from ☯️ and is often mocking a character’s suspicions of another, “I see what you’re doing… don’t think I don’t!” Says the Cat. lol
@rb85994 күн бұрын
The plot point of introducing the cat, seen yawning early in the ep, is to distract Fern and thus the audience and thus conveniently the camera just when Freiren has selected the hairclip and it is being handled in the open as part of the purchase from the vendor.

Hi, Emme! I'm enjoying your reactions to this awesome series so far. Some commenters may have mentioned it already, but all the names of characters and places are German. Those written in German letters can be a bit challenging to read, such as the town's name in the 2nd half of today's episode. It should be probably be pronounced something like "gruh-seh". I've enjoyed the first season immensely on Japanese TV. I hope you will, too!

The plot point about the Qual seal is that we are told such seals have a lifetime. Re-sealing would merely delay the threat of Qual. Side-note: Qual is clearly in to goth piercings fashion.
@seynoonrae4 күн бұрын
This will become at times apparent, but Frieren might be in what could be the teen phase for elves. It is not directly apparent as she still is much much older than humans, and this will obviously have an influence and thus her behavior cannot be one to one the same as a humans would be.

@@GSTempName Most shows use flashbacks in a distracting way at the wrong time or in a way that makes no sense. Frieren is the only show that includes flashbacks throughout the entire show in a way that makes sense and with no inconsistency whatsoever. In Frieren the flashbacks support the story ... in other shows they're just annoying or useless.

Lots 9f shows do flashbacks badly, and few do it as well as this one but certainly others benefit from them.

@@sleepfishl Flashbacks are a completely normal and reasonable narrative device. Just because you don't like how the things you have personally watched use them doesn't mean "Frieren is the only show that benefits from flashbacks," that's an incredibly silly opinion.

Characters in anime are often around 14 to 16 because the age of consent in Japan was 13, now 16. Thats why Sailor Moon/usagi was romantically involved with Tuxedo Mask/Mamoru at 14-16.
