At last I get to see where the houses were. My great grandfather lived in Plantation Row back in the 1860's with his family. Thank you so much for making the video.

+Hugh Patrick My pleasure. I am rather fond of 'The Den' - several folk I know came from here and they all speak very fondly of the community spirit that once existed. Have you seen the Wikipedia article as well? Look for 'Barkip' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barkip Merry Christmas.

+Roger Griffith My family story that includes "the Den" is that Thomas and, son, Robert Wharrie had a smithy in the 1800's at the site of Graze restaurant at the crossroads you show in the first part of your video. They emigrated in the later 1800's and took up blacksmithing in the coal country of Illinois, USA. I have been told there are still wrought iron fences in Dalry that they made. I don't know any other information. I was pleased to see our story somewhat corroborated by your mentioning the blacksmith's house and the smithy where the restaurant is. It is at least fun to know were one's roots are. I did read the Wikipedia. No need to add anything for my part. Thanks. Pat Earley

+Hugh Patrick Thank-you for the details - always nice to flesh out the story of places. I dropped in for a meal at Graze and it has become a garden centre and gift shop! A Good 2016 to you and yours.

Hi . You were filming right across from the Auld Hoose referred to in the Poem. It was known locally as Pugs, there was a dance hall behind the pub.

Trying to get my bearings, I used to live in Giffen House, thirty or so years ago. Must dig out my old OS map to remind myself of the area.
