[Recorded 06/01/2024 during our June 2024 trip to Denver]
This is the automated people mover train going between the Jeppesen Terminal and A through C Gates (each with its own station) at the Denver International Airport. This is going towards the Terminal. This is a very well-known system at this big airport, and surely almost everyone who's been to this airport has been on this system (especially locals and frequent visitors). This is actually 1 of those systems I've been watching in some form occasionally for years. But 2024 was the year I finally got to come to this airport and ride them.
This system has C-100 and CX-100 vehicles built by AEG Westinghouse and Bombardier, with additional vehicles added in 2001 and 2007, which are pretty common at airports. I believe this video is of a CX-100 vehicle.
Just like other systems like this, they have EPCO CL Circleline door open buttons and key-switches on the inside, normally used on elevators. I believe the EPCO buttons came to be because Westinghouse was the original manufacturer of the C-100 vehicles and they owned Elevator Products Corporation at the time.
As of 2023-24, several new Alstom Innovia APM-300R vehicles have been delivered, gradually replacing the existing vehicles, but they hadn't been rolled-out for public use yet during my visit. It was actually very very recently at the time of this upload that they rolled them out.
Compared to the Pittsburgh Airport and other C-100/CX-100 systems I've been on, this system goes a longer length (over a mile long). We were flying Southwest to and from Denver, which they're in C, and C is the furthest away from the Terminal, therefore I got a full ride on this system arriving and departing in Denver! I think these trains go a little faster than Pittsburgh as well. Although looking online it appears the top speed for both is 32 mph, and I think that's the standard top speed for these vehicles too. It's possible either Pittsburgh's APMs are slowed down a little or Denver has a faster acceleration and deceleration, or both. This system also has various areas behind the stations and switchbacks that Pittsburgh and other systems I've been on like this don't have.
This system has some unique features, all considered "transit art" according to the airport. Various artwork by local artists have been placed in the 2 train tunnels. One of the most well known features, however, are the announcements. There are cool sound effects that play through your journey, and the announcements are voiced by various Denver voice actors/radio and TV personalities.
Installed 1993-95 with modernizations and cars added overtime
