To me it was just Mark avoiding to admit that he gave no shit about solving the murder case. They only wants to find the "microprocessass". Later with Leo, they admit it. They have enough proofs to arrest Costello for a constellation of felonies. Leo witnessed tons of crimes being committed and asks Martin Sheen and Mark Wahlberg why they aren't doing anything to arrest Costello. They say that they're building a case. That's bullshit. I liked everything about Mark's character except his haircut, it's such a yuppy/waspy haircut for a guy that acts as belligerent as he does.

He was in between roles between Invincible(where it was long)and argued back and forth with Scorcese. He was supposed to be on the movie set for two weeks. It lasted way longer. He was a not a happy camper.

i watched the original Hong Kong movie, if Mark doesn't play Digman i would think Digman is a excessive character but somehow he became the most memorable character. the best role Mark ever played to me

This movie (The Departed) was the best fucking performance Mark Wahlberg has ever done. I was somewhat impressed, after being "Marky Mark" & then the Calvin Klein underwear boy, when he started appearing in films & soon started actually getting a few good roles. But, what sucks is that, after he had this really great chance, working with Scorsese, who, no doubt, was, in large part, what got that great performance out of Mark. In other words, after The Departed, which won the Best Picture Oscar, I had high hopes for Wahlberg; I thought, after the Mamet-esque, machine-gun-rapid-fire dialogue & the departure from the bonehead action roles he did, except for his role in I [heart] Huckabees &The Basketball Diaries, Mark would start getting better offers for better parts in better movies, but no, after The Departed it was right back to dumbshit movies like Shooter (or was it "The" Shooter) and a couple where he, again, plays some tough-guy street fighting dude. Although, the 2 Ted movies were a nice change: at least the first one was pretty funny (I didn't see #2).
