@@mitchellbratton6617 Inside joke in Soberana (collective organization of online communism propagandista). Basically, it's a joke on how both the U.K and U.S.A are english speaking countries and are most known for their crimes against humanity motivated by imperialism. So we call english language (american and U.K) the "Imperialism language" or just imperialism as a joke - representing both the role of the major english speaking countries in imperialistic domination and fascism and how their own language and the "englishfication" of other languages in latin american is an effect of american imperialism, thus the joke is also a provocation on the usage of commercial language as means of domination. We have a subculture of liberal/fascist "coaches" and "entrepreneurs" who switch many common brazilian words to english for the sake of sounding more "chic" or well-informed - the so called "Faria Limers" (Residents of Faria Lima, the er is a joke on how they englishify their speech). Calling english language "imperialism" is also a provocation directed at said people due to the patterns in their discourse and the ideologies they push for.

Ian is a brilliant young man, and there are plenty more being discovered through social media. To name a few: João Carvalho, Humberto Matos, Rita Von Hunty, Laura Sabino, and many others. We are also experiencing the rise of a very intelligent and passionate ex-banker, dearly named by us as the "Brazilian Engels," called Eduardo Moreira. He's been interviewing many brilliant minds from all over the world, such as Noam Chomsky. Socialism is on the rise. UNITE!

I feel the extreme urge to say "UMA DELIZIA KKKKKKK". Great episode! So much energy and information from Ian (don't remember a guest so talkative and energetic since at least Diego Ruzzarin -another Brazilian, ironically-). From the Dominican Republic, lot of love and thoughts to our Brazilian pals! Indeed, both Brazil and Argentina (and also northen Mexico and southern US) have the beast _carne asada._ There is a great food chain called Texas de Brasil, who makes the most delicious grilled meat cuts I've eaten in a while. 37:12-37:47 I can confirm: here in the Dominican Republic there is a *HUGE* middle-class population (most of which weren't even alive in the 30s-60s) who openly support and vindicate the Trujillo dictatorship, and support his grandson Ramfis Dominguez-Trujillo (a good-for-nothing American-born Dominican expat, who is legally banned to be president yet still presents himself every 4 years in an attempt to keep alive his image and the far-right sentiment surounding him). 49:55-49:58 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MENTIONED!!! 🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴 The 1963 coup to the first democratically elected president after 30 years of military dictatorship (a milquetoast yet very popular socialdemocrat, quite similar to Lula, called Juan Bosch), and almost inmediately followed by a direct US occupation in 1965-1966 (after left-wing guerrillas and a left-wing civic-military uprising similar to Portugal's Carnation Revolution) after fears of a "second Cuba in the Caribbean", was one of the most impacting historical events in our history. So important that it has direct political and economic consequences even today in the country. 1:00:34 I was waiting for him to mention the PSTU and PSOL (with at least 200,000 members, and almost 3.85 million votes in the last elections), yet I'm sad he didn't mentioned them. Both parties are Trotskyists, and Trotskyism is curiously quite strong in the South Cone of South America (both in Argentina and in Brazil) and represent a huge portion of the independent left-wing (non-aligned with Lula, yet critically supporting him). Unidad Popular is also strong, yet not to the level of those two parties or even compared to the PCdoB. 1:01:50 The left here in the Dominican Republic still have this kind of defensive, testimonial, almost university-exclusive behaviour. It was never as strong as in Brazil, of course (our main left-wing parties -PCD (pro-Soviet), MPD (Maoists), and 1J4/PTD (DemSocs)- were always very sectarian, divided, and minoritarian), yet they had way more popular support in the 60s and 70s (before they were utterly destroyed and demobilized by the right-wing government the Yankees left here after the occupation) than they have today, even considering the small resurgence in class consciousness in the youth.

Pstu and psol, especially psol are not considered communist parties, PSOL is almost center-left at this point, being very much aligned with PT to get as much votes as they can. Pstu a lot of time has some quite right winged opinions, unfortunately.

Hey thanks for sharing I'll share my perception as a local: most of these numbers in affiliated and votes come almost from psol and they have a socdem position. There are lots of good people and representatives in PSOL but it is mostly a reformist party. PSTU is more revolutionary but quite ineffective, they seem to be a very burocratized political force. The work of up has been far more effective and immersed in society, but it is still recent.

The meat and veggies they'd buy was mostly all local, so they said it was way better than the food where we worked together. We were both cooks/ sous chefs, so food was a common discussion.

This episode is so incredibely fun for me ahahhahaha im a Brazilian tech worker, in 2019-2020 i was neck deep into the alt-right pipeline, all those 4-chan liberalism, otaku anarchocapitalism stuff, then second tought videos started being promoted to me because they looked and felt like some econotube videos i already watched and his look on stuff felt so right, even more in the pandemics and then, when i got in to the youtube left pipeline i started missing Brazilian content in the same vein, in the time i started missing it, a geopolitics professor, Elias Jabbour, appeared in a big alt right pod cast, in the vein of steven crowder debating comunism vs capitalism with a big famous liberal creator and he DESTROYED IT, his performance was insane, somthing for the history books while the performance of the liberal debator was comically bad (Some analists comment that victory defeat then, because they got used to not debating inteligent well prepared communists they lost the habit of creating solid arguments), the left pipeline in Brazil started gain weight, some weeks after it Ian neves came into another big alt right pod cast and his performance was also insanely good, answering the questions of so many people, why capitalism feel so fucked up the rest is history, seeing these two casually talking to me is like seeing two big cultural phenomenons converging Obs|: something i think rereally insteresting is that i dont think the reason they got so big wasnt just because they are really good, but because in the pandemic, everyone started feeling "theres something really fishy about capitalism" and their content answered this demmand, what im saying is that the reason i feel happy about this pheonomenon isnt that its star based, or particular, is systemic, the fire started by the frustration of the people
