I had a very similar experience a couple of weeks ago! I was on an indoor range in Texas, happily firing a Springfield M1911 .45. There were a couple of other people there, using various 9mm and .380s. All of a sudden, there was a HUGE bang, and I felt a concussion in my chest from the pressure wave just from the noise of SOMETHING! Stopped and made safe to see what it was, and there was a guy there with a Desert Eagle. I'd never seen one before, and I was really happy when he offered me a chance to fire it. The absolute beast is too big for my hands, and compared to the 1911, the recoil is quite unpleasant, but I was so happy to have experienced it! Not a pistol that I'd ever buy, but it's certainly an interesting exercise in design, and something that would be useful to anyone going wild camping in bear country!

The 50AE and 44Mag both need ammo that is loaded closer to max potential. Having owned both, I completely agree with your review- Especially, if you are restricted to using commercially available ammo. That said, for the hobbyist that wants to spend some time bringing out the potential of this firearm with some reloading efforts, this gun is very rewarding. All the factory ammo I've tried with both cals gave me accuracy and reliability issues. Like you, initially I thought it was my wrist tension but I noticed what a major difference ammo from one manufacturer to the next made so I bought some dies and began reloading. I've been reloading for many years and once I saw what a huge difference even the smallest changes in powder and charge weight made, I could tell there was a lot more potential in these pistols. Both saw big accuracy improvements but the 44Mag became pretty amazing. In the end I found that both calibers needed slower powders (50AE - H-110 & 44Mag - A-2400). Once I carefully worked up both loads and approached max recommended levels, the guns just absolutely became amazing.... I believe some ammo manufacturers prefer faster powder in their more commonly produced ammo because it is much more economical for them to use. Faster powder yields more rounds per pound, but I usually find this can cause some inconsistency with the way semi-auto actions cycle. Special bonus- I have yet to shoot a firearm which will produce a muzzle flash even close to a 325gr 50AE in front of a hefty load of H-110. Back to your point- A finicky appetite is not a valued trait for a firearm, but they are so much fun to shoot!!! Love the silver tiger strips and your channel !!!

I have one of the original IMI 50AE DE. And it is by far one of my most accurate pistols. Mine is very reliable as it’s had a TON of rounds through for. I snagged it from a gun store I was work it that had it for sale but also in the rental case. So I benefited from all the people putting a box through it.
Bold of you to assume that I have eardrums after watching all of KZbin's gun compilation on full blast.

If you like guns you can have them, you just need to show the police that you have a good reason. This could be sport, hunting, pest control. Responsible Americans don't walk round shooting their guns in inappropriate places - they go to a range or go out to hunt, or use them as tools for work. A Brit can do the same. We just can't walk around with them on our hip when we're going for lunch.

My Desert Eagle loves it when I fire one handed as well, almost never cycles right two handed. I figured it was due to the custom ceracote, since its the TIG series version, but this has me wondering if maybe after a lot more rounds it will maybe work itself out. Sounds like just a tad too much friction in the sliding mechanism. My guess is that when you hold it too tightly the slide and frame bind but when you have a loose grip it is more able to find its "path of least resistance" and thus more likely to cycle.

My Desert Eagle .50ae works flawless now. The issue of not going fully into battery has nothing to do with grip or stance. It's all about the extractor claw. You have to grind it down at several positions and the gun will work even dirty and dry.
