I worked at a bakery for a few years in my life, making many thousands of donuts. Datto's bone with the title of "donut holes" being given to something made from a liquid batter is completely valid, and Jez's quick comment that they're not fried is WAY more important than anyone realized. Not a single donut I have ever seen in any shop ever has been baked. Once you bake it instead of frying, that, at least in my eyes, is officially a cake. Ya made cake balls.
