Yup, long way to go but MLR are making strides in right direction if they can attract young talent to rugby other than switching to more popular US sports they should be fine.

Julian Savea was the closest comparison before he lost his form his World Cup year in 2015 he matched Lomus record of 8 tries which is the record at a World Cup only Habana, Julian Savea and nehe milner skudder have matched it no one has scored more than 8 tries at a World Cup yet
