Another movie where people will be completely outraged for a few days then go RIGHT back to status quo. "Erin Brokovitch" is a perfect example. Everyone was incensed at first then a week passes and everyone wants a taco or new shoes and the movie is forgotten.

Maybe the attention only lasts a few weeks but these kind of movies plant seeds in the minds of the individual. It begins to spread slowly and then change happens. Everything big starts out small. So I'd say these kind of movies accomplish the goal of putting the info out there in a way the news never quite can

well shit, not with that attitude.
@devodavis64543 жыл бұрын
@@rjwade00 dude, even Obama let pipeline protesters get treated like criminals. Once he was out it got even worse. They arrested Democracy Now! journalist Amy Goodman for terrorism for crying out loud. Attitude has little to do with it if, when the excellent attitude-equipped protesters show up, some Texas billionaire sends in the private goons. Law after law criminalizing protesting are being passed as we speak. This "them terrists is about to come in yer winder" narrative is on purpose: they don't want to see any more school walkouts or Occupy Wall Street or anything. No protests at all is the goal, period. I want to have a good attitude. I want others to have one as well. But be realistic, not googly-eyed. fearreavers is speaking the truth. One look at the comments on a Facebook post about Greta Thunberg will illustrate the level of both the devotion to oil & peoples' acceptance of their propaganda. Just today I made the mistake of reading some comments on a KZbin video that said climate change deniers are foolish; the anger and pro-oil alternative-fact spewing was discouraging. He was interviewing a scientist from NASA, (not "that ugly gal in the braids that oughta be in school" as the right describes Greta) and the hatred spewed at both the scientist and all of NASA was amazing. I feel it too, fearreavers, it seems like there are lots of movies that expose one thing or another, then the credits roll and nothing ever changes. I'm glad I'm old & didn't reproduce, frankly. It's a relief.
@Dalavine3 жыл бұрын
I have a plan... but it's not as good as a few other, far wealthier people, so just trust that a time will come when big oil executives will be hanging themselves with ropes powdered with flakes of gold. This planet is getting smaller all the time, the only place they can escape is into whatever life comes after. Good luck to them.

Because it's not made just for entertainment, it's made to reflect a certain reality to people who have no idea about it, and represent it for those who do. Movies that are pure "entertainment" and nothing else are useless and forgettable.

Horrifyingly, that might actually be part of the point. That you can repeatedly make so many films around the same theme set in America says a lot about the state of things. I recall another similarly themed film from the 90s with John Travolta and Robert Duvall. There's enough examples of this story to keep telling it and in a country where profit is a virtue prized above being good or compassionate or honest, this story being a common one isn't shocking
