The book IS better. This isn't bad per se... But nothing can top the audio drama where Aslan was voiced by the closest living relative to C.S Lewis, who CLEARLY had never voice acted a day in his life, and they made him ROAR into the microphone instead of using a stock lion roar like any sane person. That is THE experience of Narnia. All the rest of the cast is composed of clearly seasoned and talented VAs and the background sound effects are really immersive and not overbearing... Then suddenly a man with a high nasally voice and the strangest brit yankie hybrid accent "RAWRS" at the climax of the story- Right after Lion Jesus comes back to life- and breaks all immersion built to that point over an hour in and makes it neigh impossible to keep going because there is no topping that.

Actually Lewis's stepson Douglas Gresham only did the introductions to the audio dramas. David Suchet was the voice of Aslan. He's a talented actor, but he made some... interesting creative choices there. Otherwise I think the Audio Dramas are pretty solid.

I was like 13 when I listened to it and that was over a decade ago, so I likely got some finer details wrong. What you added makes perfect sense. So thank you. Fun fact Santa Claus (or Saint Nicholas) was apparently at the first council of Nicaea. Basically the first meeting to determine "Wait what even is Christianity even?" Apparently, he got in trouble for slapping another bishop in the face for saying Jesus wasn't God. the old man is the the magicians nephew when he was a boy he gets a ring that takes him to a realm of puddles that all lead to different magical lands ones of the pools just so happened to lead to narina but it was a black void for like 3 seconds before the lion basically creates the world of narina right in front of him. so to him he's like oh ive been too a few magic lands in my day as long as its not narina they'll be fine.. as wizards im disappointed you didnt know about the "the magicians nephew"

I wasn't aware that Narnia was just ONE PART of a much larger world until I read "The Wind Through The Keyhole". At one point there's a shape-shifting Tiger or something. And he says he's the "guardian" of that area. One of the characters asks him if he's the only guardian and he says "No, far to the north there is another Guardian by the name of Aslan" 🤯
