No offense, but I thought it was obvious that the Diamonds aren't redeemed (or at least not yet). They stopped fighting the Crystal Gems because of Pink Diamond. They still don't care about humanity and other, lesser gems (Blue might care a bit though from some of her actions, idk).

Completely agree. Both of them are heartless and ruthless, because *that's what they were designed to be.* Gems like diamonds don't feel the same levels of "humanity" as other gems and humans do, hence why they can go around destroying life forms to create colonies without any kind of remorse. It makes sense they'd feel sympathetic for their own, Blue at least seems a *little* more feeling and sympathetic than Yellow, but still only for her own kin.

That's very true, after they get along with Steven, realizing what he really is, it's like their past was completely forgotten. Also, I would like to see a theory on if you think the diamonds also have weapons like Steven. Since gems have ATTRIBUTES like pearl, she can make holograms, however, she also has her spear/sword. Well we know for a fact that the Diamonds are capable of summoning weapons as Steven can summon his shield (which works defensively but we've seen both him and Stevonnie use it as a weapon in battle). So chances are they can and probably will summon their weapons at some point in the narrative. Personally my bet is on Yellow having a specialised sword like a Katana or Scimitar, while Blue will probably have something with a little more range, though as we've seen it appears the writer's don't want different gems summoning the same type of weapon, so it's left to be seen.

Random Videos I think it's based on the gem's personality. That's why eyeball might've had a dagger, because they had the intention/personality to kill. Whilst Stevens no rose/pink diamond. Wanted to protect everyone. So perhaps since yellow is very up right and professional she has something like a sword, as you said. And perhaps blue has idk... something that has to do with Ice. I have a theory. At some point in the series, most likely then end, in order to finally save earth, I think Steven will sacrifice himself. Not the gem, but his organic self which is him. I think it would make a lot of sense to finally get the diamonds to take him/Rose/Pink seriously. Pink will retain the memories of being Steven, but he will be gone. I think at some point he will have to die, whether as a kid, or eventually as an adult :/ He's got a human side, and they don't know if that's immortal or not. He has to breath, after all, and eat. Gems are forever unless shattered. I don't see how the organic part can live forever. Considering the death of main characters happens a lot in anime--and happened in Sailor Moon which was a big inspiration, I don't see this being something that's out of the question. But...if he can live forever, I predict he'll bring Connie back from the dead and he will at least have some formerly human friends to survive with him (Lars and Lion seem to be immortal? I guess we don't know, but what is a lion's life span? They clearly aren't what they used to be.) Anyway, that's just a theory I have. I don't know if you've done a theory on that yet or not. If you haven't, it might be a cool idea :3

I'm not saying Rebecca should be blamed entirely, but I do feel that the way she HAS written the story is her fault. @OP people hates Rebecca because the way she HAS written the story. Making pearl a slave, making the diamonds tyrants, making lapiz abusive, etc without really thinking of future developments of the stories and characters. This makes occasions like pink diamond is rose revelation a tad disturbing and contradictory to the entire fundamental principles of pearl. Also, there are many unsolved character development arcs, except peridot's, that she just left in the dark or retconned quietly.

So here are my personal thoughts on this mess: None of the Diamonds, including Pink, are redeemed and none of them should be. First off, I hated that the revealed that Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond all along. The episode where they revealed it was nicely put together and I think the concept of Pearls inside Pearls was cool, however there are some major issues here. First being it takes away how Pearl "belongs to nobody" because she stayed with her master right up until her semi death. I know Rebecca Sugar implied that saying "My Pearl" was meant as if Rose was talking to a superior, but that doesn't chase the fact that in the show up until now, she was quite clearly a slave. The second issue is all of the insane retconning they has to do to make Pink seem decent. "She didn't make the human zoo, that was Yellow and Blue," "She didn't want to destroy earth," "She thought that she was creating life from nothing," . All of these are retcons. Until the big reveal Pink was a brat who couldn't see reason. The third issue is that Pink is still a pretty awful character. I mean she started a whole Civil War against herself, faked her own death (which at her rank would be considered a literal galactic tragedy), and lied to literally everyone around her right up until the end. The show had already gone into why Rose Quartz was bad and had nuance, but then they took that away and replaced those old reasons with new ones. Not to mention Bismuth, she literally took Bismuth's advice of shattering a Diamond. All she would've had to say is, "Bismuth, let me do this. If shattering a Diamond only makes things worse I don't want the blame falling on you." and Bismuth would probably be upset but probably be convinced eventually. Then Pink could still fake her death but have Pearl use the Breaking Point and aim away from her gem. Also let's not forget that Crystal Gems got shattered over Pink deciding to create a Civil War instead of standing her ground with the other Diamonds. She could've done it too. Once she started the Rose Quartz rebellion she could've said, "Look, even the gems sent to do this agree with me. We can't commit genocide." Now let's get on to Blue and Yellow. They are both genocidal and they are both murderers. They are literally the textbook definition of fascism and behave like Nazi's. The only saving grace that Pink Diamond ever had was that she realized *being a literal genocidal Nazi was bad. That is the only thing that makes her better than the other Diamonds.* Not to mention the Diamonds aren't doing this because they have no other option, Peridot literally says, "I have some theories as to how we could use this planet's resources without disturbing the local-" and Yellow Diamond doesn't even let her finish. She doesn't want to even hear about the thought of not committing genocide. She either thinks it's the only actual way to get all of a planet's resources or she hates everything that isn't a Gem. We haven't seen Blue be this dismissive of genocide but I really doubt she's much better. The only thing she really has going for her is that she's in between Yellow and Pink. She's not so dead set on their current ways that she'll let humans go extinct or even want the Cluster to form. She's on the path to realizing that being a *literal genocidal Nazi is bad* but right now she's still a murderer and I doubt she'll have the same opinions about Earth as she will with other planets. We know basically nothing about White Diamond. However she's at the top of this whole mess. I wouldn't be shocked if they revealed that, "Oh, Blue and Yellow didn't *want* to commit mass genocide. White just told them to." so they can justify redeeming them which the show seems to want to do at this point. I doubt that White will ever be redeemed. She seems like the final boss of the series and boy do I hope that they don't try to redeem a character who is so ominously threatening and monolithic that she's literally drawn as if she's a part of the background.

Retconning implys they changed how something happened, they didn't, we just didn't know. We'd only truly seen Pink once before then and everything else was hear say. Pink changed which in a way redeemed her, at first her goals were shallow but lets not forget she also did lots of good in saving humanity and encouraging Garnet. Helping gems learn they could unapologetically be themselves. That makes her morally gray. She did both good and bad. I think it's unfair to say bad people can't be or shouldn't be redeemed. The diamonds like real people lack the perspective of others besides themselves, an so act according to how they were taught. Does that make them bad? No. It makes them ignorant. Rose changed when she saw a new prospective ie. Humanity and fusion, and now the remaining diamonds have Steven ti show them. Also I'm pretty sure Rebecca has also said there are no villians in Steven Universe,and it's also a show that loves redeeming characters. More than anything this show is about hope, and finding the good in others. It shows us something we rarely see in TV shows, that people maybe if we stop seeing each other as different from each other than we might be able to be like Steven and see others as they are unique and special. And the thing is there's a lot of people like Pink was, who don't realize certain problematic behaviors until confronted with a different perspective.

Pink didn't really change though. She is introduced as someone who sees most of the world around her as something fun to play with, which she then throws away when it bores or becomes too much for her. She did the exact same thing as Rose Quartz: she took advantage of Pearl's feelings for her, until Greg came along and she found a new toy. She treated Greg like a better pet and literally had to be TOLD by him that that wasn't okay. She saw baby Onion and decided on a whim "Hey! I want that too!" not even slightly caring how this would effect Greg or the other Crystal Gems. As Pink Diamond she didn't really want to not finish the colony because colonizing a planet is bad, she wanted to save earth because she saw it as a fun new playground with people she could have sex with. And simply trying to excuse Yellow's and Blue's behavior by saying they're "ignorant" is, excuse my french, really stupid. They committed mass genocide on hundreds of species, INCLUDING THEIR OWN, for millennia, installed a rigid caste system where everyone who was even slightly different form the norm would be executed on sight and peolpe were held as slaves simply for being who they are, they cooked hundreds of shattered gems in a mass grave to create a super weapon that would blow up the earth, oh and let's not forget the corrupting light. "But they didn't know it would do that!" Well, yeah, they thought it would just kill all the gems left on the planet. Not much better if you ask me. Things like genocide, colonialism, slavery and brutal caste systems can not and should not be forgiven. And it's really messed up that Rebecca Sugar apparently thinks she needs to teach children that nazis are actually sweet, gay, little babus who just need a hug. And about the retcons: They were retcons. Remember how the Human Zoo controlled the humans with earrings telling them when to sleep or eat in Pink Diamond's voice? If the zoo wasn't build by her and she was actually against it, then why would she lend her voice for it's management? She also still lied to everyone for years, instead of simply standing her ground and evidently couldn't have cared less about the gems who fought for her, since she only even began to think of their well-being after she saw Garnet for the first time. And even that was simply because it was yet another interesting new toy she could mess with.

They found it easier to blame their problems on others and so did terrible things because of it. Alot of people who aren't exposed to different world views and are raised in toxic environments do and say terrible things to people when they are raise in the environment. And saying that actual nazis should be forgiven for what they did because they "didn't know any better" is reprehensible. My grandfather witnessed the last weeks of the third Reich. He told me about a good friend of his, a teacher whom the nazis wanted to use as a spy. They threatened to hurt his loved ones if he didn't comply. He was so distraught about this, because he didn't want to rat out his friends and neighbors, who would be killed if the nazis so much as suspected they were traitors. So in the end, he hung himself. And this is only a small case example of how horrible the third reich was. And many of the nazis did know what they were doing was wrong. But they still did and said nothing, because they benefitted from the system that allowed them to murder, maim and torture left and right. And the Diamonds are the same. They see what their corruption light has done to the gems and they don't care, only react with mild surprise and annoyance when Steven demands they clean up their mess. They see how scared Off-Colors and defective gems are and they merely order their underlings to shatter them, because gems like this could be a potential danger to the caste system that allows them to keep the other gems under control.

Frankly it's not really the episodes. We're just getting them far too piecemeal. I don't look at any of these episodes as filler and a lot of the slice of life episodes feel a lot better to watch in quick succession. Binge watching the show is really fun and I enjoy the slower episodes a lot more. Waiting for new episodes is torture and is likely why people bitch more then they would otherwise.

The Roundtable If you mean redeemed in the sense that the diamonds make a peace pact with the Crystal Gems and are friendly to them, that is relatively easy for Steven to accomplish. If however, you mean redeemed in the sense that the diamonds stop colonizing planets, that is easier said than done. The surefire way Steven convinces them of that is my conducting a scientific study which fails to reject that a new, superior method of Gem synthesis exists. If this is the case, they should have no problem getting rid of kindergartening, given the obvious weakness that the method does not recycle.

Thanks for pointing that out. Indeed, diamonds are not redeemed yet, and it will be a long path for them given there history as a space tyrants. Yellow and Blue look pretty redeemable but White will probably used as a sort of scapegoat for all of their collective sins. I honestly think that Blue's and Yellow's path to redemption should start from them fusing together (with the help of Garnet). This way thru will realise their previous prejudice against fusions and maybe will come to the conclusion that they were wrong about other things as well.

Yeah, I agree, that could well be the case. We mustn't forget that one of the main reasons the Diamonds are so evil is that that's how they've been designed. What makes the Crystal Gems so unique is that they choose their own paths, their own destinies. The thing about Stevannie's dream is that it's a corrupted memory. We don't actually know how accurate it is to Pink Diamond's actual memory, and how much of the memory is actually Connie's. And we don't actually know what Blue Diamond has done. And on that note, something people like you don't seem to be able to do is think outside the box to see what is redeemable. Or to be more accurate, you have to think outside of humanity. The fact of the matter is that gems are aliens. Even the earthling gems think differently than humans. So why would you expect homeworld gems to think like a human? If anything, homeworld gems' thought processes would be even more distant from humans. To quote Pink Diamond (I'm paraphrasing, since I don't know the exact quote word for word), "Look at this, Pearl! We're creating life from nothing!" It wasn't until after she got to see the world that she realized what she was doing, "We're not creating life. We're taking life, and leaving nothing behind." And if you think about it, how are humans that different in real life? We kill animals for food, destroy their homes when we chop down forests to build homes for ourselves, and even raise animals specifically for our own benefit. How is Pink Diamond's human zoo any different than the zoos we make for animals? In fact, humans are categorized as the most destructive animals on earth. In short, you have to realize how the gems are different, as well as how they are the same. Morality isn't just black and white. And for that reason, neither is redemption. How I see it, if the Diamonds can recognize the value of organic life and change their ways, they are perfectly deserving of redemption. Personally, I don't think we can determine if they're worthy of redemption until after the movie and into Season 6, because though Steven did bring forth the 3rd era, we still don't know what the Diamonds think of organic life.

Diego Kaqui you present an interesting case but even then after Alderaan, Vader displayed a more focused and militaristic mind. Keep in mind that it was also Grand Moff Tarkington who gave the REAL order to kill an entire planet. I’m not saying any of his crimes were justified, but that was one time. I know you can’t compare number due to people being sentient beings, but at least some Alderaanians survived to rebuilt their society. When it comes to the gems, these are beings who actually HATE all organic life, and act as a malevolent force of logic and calculated brutality under the claim that they are furthering their Empire. They leave nothing behind as the corpses of once proud planets have life fade from them. They even punish their own kind and treat them severely as shown as the off colors. Vader never shared the same racism as other Imperials did, and he certainly didn’t torture anyone who showed loyalty. Most gems are aberrations who view themselves as the peak of perfection and kill anything standing in their way. I hope that humanity hasn’t been made weak, so that we can fight back against this oppressive threat looming around us in that universe.

I think Yellow and Blue should be partially redeemed, but not White, leading to a real diamond conflict. Blue and Yellow accept Steven as family, White doesnt, and they have to decide to they want to side with. Whatever decision they make, i think they would be the most interesting path. Imagine if they sided with White, but Blue secretly helped Steven escape, so White found out and ordered Yellow to shatter/poof/punish Blue. Or if they both sided with Steven and had their own personal relationship arc, as they called the strength they need to stand up against White from the love they have for each other.

I just thought of a way to prove to Blue and Yellow that Steven isn't just Pink Diamond in a new form, but something different. Gem Destabilizers or destabilizing rays. Remember how in The Escape Steven was only partially effected by the energy walls of the prison cells and the Destabilizer he blocks Peridot from using on the others, they barely did anything to him? He can't be poofed by those and, as far as the Diamonds are aware, NO gem, not even themselves if, in some unlikely event they're effected by one, can resist and WILL lose their form when exposed. Steven, however, would NOT be poofed that way and this would IMMEDIATELY tell Blue and Yellow that something is off or at least wrong with Pink. It could easily be the way to help them start to understand the concept of Just WHAT Steven is

I think the only way Blue and Yellow will be redeemed is if they finally stand up to White, presumably through fusion. Even if not that, I think fusion (for friendship or love) will be the key. (Jasper's opinions on it, and the way Steven took care of the Cluster are especially on my mind, since they were also big moments on the show). My other thought, is that Blue and Yellow will sacrifice themselves to defeat White so that Pink (Steven) can live (Darth Vader style)

Using Nazis and Jew references in comparison to a Cartoon show to me is very unnecessary, especially with how popular Steven Universe is in the world. Most of SU fans, including myself, love the show because the story is so unique and different compare to all other cartoons - The show had simple logic in the beginning, now with Rose Quartz turning out to be Pink Diamond, yeah it did went off to a shaky start but now Garnet is her own choice and together again even she is married, and Blue and Yellow now helping Steven (to them helping Pink) to get through with White that corrupted gems need to be healed. To be honest I despised the diamonds a bit more when they showed emotions and were sad about pink. Why should we care about their feelings when they put countless other beings through the same if not worse. It comes off as "We're special so we're the only ones that deserve to show emotions and earnest feelings.". It feels hypocritical especially during the trial when blue saw Steven as an absolute demon. Look at the pot calling the kettle black. If they have to redeem the diamonds they'll have to give us a big bang worth of logical reasons and the diamonds will have to do an impossible amount of good deeds for fans to even consider.

I get what you're saying, but the show hasn't even 'redeemed' the Diamonds as of yet. The ''we're all family'' line is true, they are, but in LFHTH you could see Steven's anger with the other Diamonds, because of the corruption attack. Like, my father was homophobic, but when my sister came out as gay, he realized through family love that he could change and learn to accept her, which he has today (know it sounds a bit cheesy lol but that's how I rationalized it). And Pink/Rose hasn't even been forgiven. The point of the previous arc was to show that they all moved away from Pink/Rose image, and let themselves become their own people, rather than following her like they did before. Maybe showing the Diamonds now what they did was wrong before, and stand up to the consequences (why Steven was so determined to go to Homeworld to convince White that the corruption attack was wrong and undo that damage) Isn't it better to make them realize their horrible actions and undo them than to let them stay in that ''evil person'' mind? So they can become better people, and since they have the power, create a better society for the gems? We humans have a very dark past behind us, and still to this day it's not good either, but we can't beat each other up for it, otherwise we'll never get anywhere People need to give things a chance instead of coming to conclusions too fast (like you said, you felt like they were shoving the whole family thing down your throat) give the show time to explain itself and look deeper into it, if they don't deliver what you want, then it's completely fine to turn it off. With the human zoo, I hope that they'll release them soon, but they've never known any other way of life than in there (which seems like a pretty good life) but I hope as well they'll get the chance to experience all different kinds instead of just that one. Many films and shows have depicted that kind of thing, but it's going a little too far to say that Rebecca had white people dehumanising black people in mind when creating that plot point. It's all good man, we're still allowed to have our own opinions, we just shouldn't pass it off as facts :) I understand if some turn away from that stuff. But SU isn't the first CN show to depict rather dark themes, and won't be the last - hope I explained myself well, English is only my third language :)

I’ve always seen the diamonds recognising Steven as Pink as a potential powder keg waiting to be lit; because even in a human context, Steven is like the undesired child whose mother died giving birth to him. All lack of intent aside, Steven’s existence caused Pink’s own existence to end, and I’m sure once the Diamonds work that out, it will no longer be a happy reunion.

It would be quite interesting to see if the other diamonds would get Steven to start his own colony, seeing as how the diamonds see Steven as Pink, and has had time to mature.

You know I’ve been thinking about this for a while... it’s already been established that Steven can die. But what’ll happen to his gem? Does it shatter when he dies? Because if not wouldn’t pink diamond come back into the picture eventually? So blue and yellow will get pink diamond back they just have to be Patient

I still would have gone with the idea that Yellow murdered Pink. Think about it for a second. Yellow loved Blue romantically but Blue was more affectionate with Pink. White saw this and took advantage of Yellow's burning jealousy to remove Pink Diamond from power. White Diamond secretly ordered Yellow to assasinate Pink on the grounds of inept leadership and for allowing Rose's rebellion to spiral out of control. Yellow kills Pink and then frames Rose. That scenario would at least redeem Blue Diamond but not White or Yellow. This would make more sense. But that is far too dark, even for this show. The whole "I am my mother, lets kiss and make up with my autocratic aunts" never works in reality.

Well, if there is ever going to be a Diamond Redemption; a common enemy 3rd party is going to have to get involved to create situations of necessary long-term cooperation between the Diamonds and the Crystal Gems. Example: Sneple are actually real, and a threat to both Earth and Homeworld. However, it turns out that Yellow-Tail is actually a fugitive of the Sneple, and ran to earth to start a more peaceful life. And Steven, after learning this, is able to gather inside knowledge on the Sneple. And it is this knowledge that Steven uses as leverage to convince the Diamonds into a long-term cooperative effort until the Sneple are no longer a threat to either world. And it's during this span of cooperation that the Diamonds will learn more about the Crystal Gems, what drives them, and how they operate. They'll see Cross-Gem fusion and what it is able to accomplish. Blue Diamond will actually question Garnet at length to understand what she's thinking, and might actually reconsider Cross-gem fusion as a whole. Just some ideas.
