Tim Horton was a Canadian ice hockey player who founded Tim Horton's restaurants in 1964. A coffee-and-donuts shop chain emerged. This restaurant took the little bits from the middle of the donut and cooked it. The coffee shop chain is known as "Timmies", or "Tim's". Tim's cooked up the bits and, voila! Timbits.

I went to Japan on a guided tour bus for two weeks and on the second day our tour guide KNEW we were Canadian. We sound exactly like the Americans but... he said we were kinder LOL. It's weird being with Americans and them not apologizing when something they do can be seen as rude. I think that's how he knew.
