I bought the 501-SS specifically as a low-end, stable position hold w altitude hold. I am not racing it, chasing cruise ships or doing long rage GPS waypointing. For me, a bonus is the 'follow-me' feature. I'll probably find a use for it. For the price, after much comparing, I really like the 501-SS as a pretty good, easy to use camera platform. After watching reviews, making sure of my purchase and saving the money, I ordered a H501S with advanced Transmitter back in 2017. What I got was this Frankenstein S-SH which flew twice, fell from the sky the third time and it's been in the box every since. Attempts to contact Hubsan always carried a warning that I would have to pay for the repairs. First and last thing I ever bought from Hubsan. Pity, the designer of the quad bodies is good. Decision to change product without telling customers and just sneaking it in was cheap and dirty.

Yup, horrible service, poor business model, shitty customer service ethics and their Warehouse/Shipping crew must smoke a lot of weed, only twice ordered from these stoners, ...& twice the order was WRONG, ...So why twice??, I always like to give second chances....but never a 3rd, I too am done with this Company...and like you, I like the body's design as well, what a shame...sorry for your loss Hubsan, ya started out awesome, then like all the corporate whores, GREED got to the best of it.... sad

Just want to add my 2 cents worth. Straight out of the box my h501ss was a stunning machine! once the battery was conditioned (7-8 charges) I was able to complete a flight of 1335m out & return no problem, except for the image recording from the camera. Just prior to the end of the return flight the video skipped and jumped and my editing program is telling me the video is corrupt so will not load it. Changed card (Sandisk Extreme Pro) + format and I still get problems with video, some times but not every time. Annie you helped me fix the firmware & I truly thank you for that, but I think my video problem is more than just a card issue. I love this drone even more than my h109s but the image skipping must stop

Dear Hubsan Lady, I 'm not english native and would appreciate very much to have the transcript of all this speech. I also really appreciate your performance on stage, but a few drawings and a textual explanation could really help people to understand you. You could simply describe the name of all you different versions in a simple array on a spreadsheet because saying all that by speech can become a real challenge for some of your clients. Clearly Hubsan has produced two different versions (H501S and H501 S-S) under the same packaging H501S. And the confusion between those two versions is a mess for clients as for Hubsan in case updates of firmware are done but with a mixup between firmwares of those two versions. I can clearly say now Pray for customers, pray for Hubsan reputation, pray for Hubsan

First time up. I used the return to home function, the drove did a flip and took off on a full battery charge. Tracked it using the GPS coordinates only to have the batteries die in the remote before I found the Drone. Contacted Hubsan and told them what happened and they said "sorry we don't cover that". I paid just over $500 for the drone, extra battery and props only to watch it take off on it's maiden flight. If there are so many glitches with their systems, why don't they correct them before releasing the drones for sale? I even asked if they could sell me just a drone as obviously I have everything else and no one has bothered to get back to me. I am less than impressed with Hubsan.

Apparently... The H906A controller with the upgraded screen (V1.3 1.19) does not show the "SS" in Show Version, it just shows "H501S". Everything else on the H501S indicates the SS version, including the new large sticker. The new H906A firmware maker probably just decided not to use two S's. I love the built-in real 5.8G FPV. Wish I'd gone with this before buying other drones.

I've just bought one with the 906a controller. The stickers on the quad and the controller show that its a H501S-S, It also looks like it has the SS video module, but when I switch it on the firmware tells me its a H501S. What is going on here? What have I got? An S or an SS?

I need help, please help me. I have an H501S plane. It does not show me the speed range, flight and charging of the plane. Only the GPS and the control directions left and right and the number of GPS satellites are shown to me. The camera is open but I cannot fly despite the lights being green and ready to fly. When I lower the control stick down (altitude and directions) it appears. I have something written like (RTH switch is ON) and I cannot fly. Help please 😭😭

So I get that the H501S-S has the mainboard from the H501A but the camera module is different too. the H501S-S lens protrudes from the shell whereas the lens on the H501S is flush. You said that you'll explain the difference between the modules but you didn't. I understand that this must have been a really confusing video to script and present but what are the differences in the camera?? Why does the H501S-S version feel like it wasn't built to fit in the body properly?

I purchased the 501SS. The label on the under belly of the drone confirms that it is indeed the SS version. However, when I checked the firmware version using the controller, it says: H501S (V2.1.50 V1.1.46). Since I don't know what I have, I don't know what firmware I need. Otherwise, it's a good drone.

I'm very confused. Annie says that if we have a H501ss with a standard transmitter, we can use the firmware to allow the 501ss to fly waypoints using the H7000 trasnmitter. I have tried to do this with my H501ss as it came with a standard trasmitter. Binding with the H7000 is easy, the problem is sending the waypoints to the quad. If you only have a point of interest, the transmitter is able to send successfully to the quad. But when trying to send waypoints to the quad you get the response "mission send faied" Could you please explain a little better what firmware is required on the quad and the trasmitters, both of them, in order to do what annie says is now possible ... the waypoints using the H700 transmitter.

I have 4 of these drones. Now that I can tell the difference, I have two of the s versions. Can I buy the new board, Install the new software and upgrade them to the ss version. The ss version does fly 100 times better. Please let me know if that can be done. if so, what do I need? Maybe send me the link to what I will need to do the job. Hello. As stated in the video, the H501S and H501SS have different video modules *and* motherboards. To buy both would also involve buying different motherboard modules- and collectively, the cost would probably equal or surpass that of a new H501SS standard. You could do this but the labor and money, from a client's perspective, is quite potentially not worth it.

9:10 Regarding the CE label. Yes, the q code label says H501S-S but the CE label (and I have a large one) just says H501S - that should match between the two labels.

Hi I'm a little confused, I just purchased a h501s and all the indicators on the hardware (looking at the under side of the drone) suggest that it's a h501s-s, but when I check the firmware it shows h501s. Mine came in a large white box as opposed to the more square black box too.

So I just bought two of the H501S pro advance (with the new remote controls) drones offer authorized hubsan dealer from California on eBay and they've got the big fat stickers on the back Of the drone and if you look in the battery compartment it says H501A and these are supposed to be New drones, is this possible that I've got two H501's not H501ss's when the new models have been out for such a long time, my Purchased date was 05-12-19 and the QR code on the back of the H906A receiver has H501S - S - H so I'm totally miffed at this point and looks like I got stuck with 2 older drones with the H501S-S-H receivers??? Of course, more it's main stream, more there are clients with not the behavior the maker is waiting for. Nevertheless, the idea of an average client here is to try to update software to get rid of bugs as they do with their phones to fix things. And when Hubsan create a mess like they have done here, by giving the same packaging to, after all, 2 different products needing 2 different kind of firmware updates , this will create a real big mess. I like Hubsan, but here they are clearly faulty.

Can you help me please. I bought a hubsan 501 from someone on ebay who advertised it was a "factory rebuild". They also claimed it was a 501s-s with the "latest firmware updates". When I got it, the manual, the (all cardboard) box and the sticker on the drone said "501S". BUT when it look in the belly like in the video above it seems to have the silver or gray box that goes up past the middle like she showed. Also inside the board says on it: "H501A-cam V05". SO do I have a 501S or a 501S-S? When I tried the "Circle fly", first the drone rotated once around and then seemed to take off in one direction at full speed! Like it was headed back to China to circle the building where it was built! Seriously I did it twice. It rotated (yaw'ed) one rotation and then took off for parts unknown. So, WHAT MODEL DO I HAVE, and what is going on with it's circle fly mode? I'll have you know that I almost wrecked it into a steel pole and (tall) chain link fence, on it's maiden voyage. PLEASE HELP ME. I DO love the drone! I bought one because my best friend has one and I love what they can do. Mine has the standard controller also. You skipped how to use the standard controller to enter the menu mode so I can find my firmware version numbers.

Once again poor Annie is sent out to clean up Hubsan's mess and try to explain the unexplainable, and make that which is not reasonable seem reasonable. After returning my transmitter and receiving a replacement nearly a month later I finally ended up with a 501S that I'm very happy with. But unfortunately I do not think that satisfied customers are the majority. Those of us that are speaking out about Hubsan's lack of quality control and endless firmware issues aren't haters we are people that have lived through the nightmare and believe in "Let the buyer beware". It is apparent that Hubsan is not willing to correct their quality control issues on their own. Or, actually make firmware updates that work for all of those that own the same model. So we the so called "haters" must hold their feet to the fire, and call them out when they need to be called out. For those thinking of buying a 501S or 501SS you need to understand that it is "HIT OR MISS" Maybe you will get a good one, maybe you won't. If you are feeling lucky go for it.

Please check the QR code on the back of your transmitter, does it say H501S or H501S-S? If it is a H501S-S then you would have to download the H501S-S firmware files from our official website and use the H501A upgrade tool for your unit.

If you still wish to update, please be careful and research the process thoroughly with our videos before doing so. You may access the latest firmware at www.hubsan.com, under "Support" and "Product Support". Read the change log that comes with the package carefully first before upgrading.

Also, does the new controller have video out for attaching a headset? Last question - is the camera vertically adjustable or is the angle fixed?

The H501S high edition can be both H501S + advanced transmitter or H501S-S + advanced transmitter. The 'High Edition' means that it has a advanced controller, it does not specify whether it is a H501S or a H501S-S. The FPV controllers have video sockets to connect to other FPV devices. The camera is fixed and not adjustable.

I got my new one today Fri 24th 2017 and it came in all cardboard. Also it will not update with any firmwares I have, just throws update errors. So I guess it is a new H501ss version. Cool. I did not get nice silicone caps for sticks and switches :( Why does the camera stick out?

no, it doesn't. got a h501ss yesterday and tried, the h501ss doesn't output a wifi signal. i'm guessing that is the difference between this model and the h501a. also it would be great if they told us how the orbit function can be activated. otherwise it's operating extremely well, i'm very happy with it so far.

What if you get a quad that has no firmware. Mine arrived from Gearbest and has no firmware at all. When I went into see what version I had it show NO firmware at all. Can you help please? Or is it best just to ask for my money back and buy from somewhere else?

I removed my earlier comments and want to post this retraction as well as apologize for those earlier comments. I was frustrated, tired, and lost my 502S drone 3 days ago. I have no doubt this influenced my unnecessary comments regarding these products. However, I do still maintain that the confusion level of these two could have been less if a little more thought went into the way it should be identified and promoted. As for the video; I had only watched a minute of it earlier and then stopped because of the bad audio. However, I decided to return to watch the rest and I guess the wind died down or the videographer covered the mic with a filter. Whichever it was, I found that it improved the audio and I was able to understand the demo/announcement much better. R

is there any way to update firmware on MacOS? I don't have access to any windows machines. i think i'm due for an update, i don't get very good range and my software looks pretty dated Current New TX V4.2.14 >> V4.2.24 RX V1.2.9 >> V1.2.20 FC V1.1.17 >> V1.1.38

Will the "ss" fly with the "s" transmitter? Why don't you sell a BNF version? Killed my S and would like to just buy another bird, I have everything else and already did the mods.

I was changing an esc after hanging it in a tree and burning one up. When I tried to unplug the esc from the main power board I broke off the connector. The traces on the board were too small for me to repair so I got another power board. While installing the new power board I wired in one of the esc's backwards and "puff the magic smoke". Burnt too many things to make it worth rebuilding. Rookie mistake but $%^ happens.

"If your drone flys well dont update it at all"!!! My x4 is now a paper weight thx to this firmware nightmare. All it does is beep continually and says "error loading firmware". Ive gotten no help from Hubsan like she said "its a bit of hassle" there is no fix i take it! Thx Hubsan your real special.

Can I ask if you compare the video output of the SS vs the 216A, what is the main difference. 216 looks so smooth almost stabilised. Is the frame rate higher? Also for both drones, does the app support vr goggles (dual screen mode) thx

I just received my new H501ss from hubsanus with all the markings you claim they have with the stickers and the camera view from underneath confirming it to be an ss, and my firmware states H501s on the controller ??? So I am a little bit confused unless the firmware is actually H501ss and it states H501s....The firmware that I have is H501s V2 1.50 V1 1.46 I have not flown the drone yet as I just received it this evening to confirm it is working properly....

Hi Scott I'm in the same boat as you. I just received my H501S(S?) and, being a retired techy, wanted to update the firmware. After watching Annie's first video, i started the update and received an error. So I searched and found this video. But, like you, I'm confused as to which model I have. For that reason, I too, have not flown it yet! My H906A controller shows the firmware as "H501S..." not "H501SS...". But, the QR label on the belly of the drone reads "H501S-S-H" and the board on the inside has "H501A - CAM V06" stamped on it. So... what do I have... an H501S or an H501SS. And, if it is an H501SS, does it have the wrong firmware loaded (not likely... but, who knows?). So, Annie... if you see this... HELP??? Clem

@@cntryboygeetar I did finally receive an email response from Hubsan tech in China (no response from ANYONE in Los Angeles Hubsan tech!). They told me that I DO have the SS model and do not need to upgrade the firmware. I guess I'll just have to take their word for it since I can't reach anyone by phone here in Los Angeles. Hi Sir ,yes it normal and congratulation ,you got the new version drone with new compass that no need to make the calibration every time before take off and also it means the place where you choose to fly the drone is the ideal place away from interference .Thanks
