This is why monasteries where so great back in the day. People with mental issues could just check in, till fields, brew beer, and work until they got their head straight while still being a benefit to society. When they felt better they would just leave or maybe stay and help others.

People like to say that men crave respect and women crave love. I would actually argue that, while yes, those things are true, the driving forces for men and women are not respect and love, but purpose and stability. Men thrive when given purpose. Women thrive when they receive stability. The difficulty is in defining and determining what purposes and stability are for each individual and then how to go about achieving them/ putting them into the practice.

Meanwhile, he gives me so much assurance and stability, which has really solved a lot of mental as well as trust issues I've had for a long time with no aid in sight, until I met him. Living things are "loved" by getting what they need. Men, women, cats, dogs, guinea pigs all have different needs. You "love" a being by giving it what it need whether you feel like it or not. "Respect" is a critical way a wife can love a husband. It's a kind of love, not an alternative to love.

Men are capable but they need something to do the work for. Women can be their cheerleaders; encouraging them along the way and praising them when they succeed. Man or woman, we need to be appreciated for the work we do.

Beating up women has nothing to do with having no respect, that is just a lack of true care and love. What you likely mean when you say respect is that you just don't want to be treated badly, which is a perfectly healthy thing to want. Respect is tied to fear and admiration, men don't fear or admire women but they do love them and if he truly loves you he'd never beat you up, that's the truth. A man that beats up women for no reason is a man that never learned to love anyone, because he hates himself.

@@LionXV1 please check the dictionary meaning of respect. It has nothing to do with fear. It is rather admiration, honor and deep regard. @LionXV1
@LionXV1 Жыл бұрын
@@nmesomambakwe1076 I was referring to the root of where respect actually comes from, not what respect means. It usually comes from the feeling of fear or admiration towards something. Obviously a man who "respects" a woman wouldn't hurt her but that's not the point, it's that instinctively men don't respect women because women are smaller and weaker, so asking men to respect women isn't going to work. Instead men need to be encouraged to love and care for women, so that they will have no desire to hurt or mistreat them.

This is love and respect. This is support. This is human and genderless. Submission has nothing to do with love OR respect. If you need a submissive partner to feel powerful in yourself, again... you've got inner work that needs tending, male or female.

Not totally true. We humans are highly social creatures, and from birth we need love/nurturing/needs met in order to survive and thrive. Men need love as well. Yet, the way men and women express and receive love may vary a bit, but we all need love and respect. Women want to be respected too, is not a "men" thing only.

The respect thing goes for both men and women. You can’t really love someone in a way that is meaningful without respecting them, and a person’s love means nothing without their respect. I think it’s just a matter of conscientiousness, and how much love and respect you have for yourself. If you love and respect yourself, you won’t let people stomp all over your boundaries, and you’ll also only really be inclined to lead, make decisions with, and follow those who you respect as well. And you don’t tend to waste time caring for those who you don’t either.

I never understood the idea of going to talk about your problems to a therapist... Never worked for me as a man the whole thing just felt too fony. What worked better was getting myself into good enough shape and becoming interesting enough that made people curious of me enough to want to come and talk to me. Not me go out and seek conversation. Let them come to me.

Therapists should only help you discover some insight about yourself your ignoring. They try to elongate the meetings forever because that's how they make money. Men should be done after like 5 sessions. Women go for years because they just want someone to listen to them with undivided attention. I dont think women get any results from therapy... but they think just because of the fact they are going that they are getting results. Truth is that they are getting played by the therapist.

@@SmartestDumbGuy no. Therapists have schedules of clients so they often can't prolong the sessions. That would cut into someone else's time & throw everything off, INCLUDING the therapists schedule. Most bill by the hour, not by the minute anyways. Putting a limit on number of sessions is ridiculous because everyone's problems & journeys are unique. There is no one size fits all or some magical playbook. No matter how badly guys want the easy way, there isn't one, especially when it comes to self-improvement. Much of therapy is about learning how to connect the dots... how past experiences or familial relationships relate to how one responds to the world in their current state, issues around self-image, accountability, boundaries & I could go on.

@Just a cog in the fkery I've been many times and gone to 3 different ones. My wife has also gone for years. I've received no benefit. I've learned so much by simply watching KZbin videos... especially on attachment styles. My wife also finally admitted that she realizes she was mainly going because it felt good to have someone to talk to... hoelwever there wasn't growth happening. Once again all her growth started happening when she learned about her attachment style as well. The therapists was helpful for her in a few sessions by looking into her family history. Everything after that was just meeting and talking about the week. I finally stopped when I challenged the therapists on what we were doing every week because it just seemed pointless. He got mad and ended the sessions when I needed answers. He is highly regarded and invented a system that is taught to other therapists. I've studied this stuff heavily for 8 years now everyday since I retired at age 30. The last therapists I met with I even started teaching him more about attachment styles since he was aware but not very well versed in the subject. He was very interested in my thoughts... but I also realized how sad it is they are charging $150 for a 50 minute discussion when they aren't even up on the latest research.

@@SmartestDumbGuy therapy truly only works if you put in effort, have patience, have goals for improvement & of course, find the right fit for individual needs. I began studying psychology myself as a teen to manage ptsd. I got a taste of therapy, couldn't continue for reasons outside of my control & studying that plus the neurological aspect became a personal hobby. I've still gone through therapy including couples with my ex (he received no benefit because he didn't want to deal with personal accountability though). So self-learning is fantastic, but often times requires a catalyst to get a person to want to dive deeper. If therapy was your catalyst, you still got something out of it in the long-run. Regarding your wife having someone to talk to, that alone highlighted an unmet need for her because she still continued to go for a while. She would have stopped on her own if it wasn't meeting that that need which wasn't being filled in her day-to-day life for some reason. Sounding boards & having a judgement-free zone to vent are an emotional & social necessity for a lot of ppl... Men talk about having that unmet need themselves all the freaking time. Same goes for women. Hopefully she still has access to fill that need outside of therapy whether it be with you, family or friends. Regarding the cost, you absolutely could have found cheaper options. I've never paid more than $75/ hr session myself & definitely got my money's worth. If we did have to go a few minutes over, I was never charged more than the base cost. I'm glad to hear that you did learn about attachment styles. Figuring those out can be incredibly helpful towards recognizing childhood baggage, the subsequent relationship cycles/ patterns in adulthood & most of all, how to improve, address & navigare certain behaviors. They've only become more understood in the last couple decades though, but, of course, learning requires ppl to be willing to learn more.

So what you are saying is you didn't feel like doing the work of getting to know yourself and you chose to make yourself more attractive instead and fill your inner void with external validation? I hate to break it to you but women do that every day too. Lol

Honestly, I feel like this is a huge reason as to why I haven’t found someone I wanna be in a relationship with. Because I can’t find a man and I respect. I liked the guys that I I’ve dated and they were fun and all. But I can’t take them seriously. Most men that I have known make really stupid decisions and I would not want them to lead me into some dumb ass shit. And I cannot be with a man that I don’t respect. I’m looking for a man that inspires me in a way that I can look up to him, and I just haven’t found that yet. I’ve come from a rough life and I’ve had to take care of things on my own. I’m not a materialistic person. I want a simple life, but I haven’t met a man that has been faced with enough adversity in their lives for me to truly respect them. And if they have been faced with adversity, they’ve come out on the other side as bitter assholes that hate women.. what’s the Lady to do?🤔

If a woman respects you, love follows. So basically, respect and love go hand in hand for a husband . If a woman doesn't love you. You know she won't respect you. Respect and love can be separate outside of marriage. But in marriage, love and respect are both essential for men.

Psychotherapy is fully geared towards the female-typical way of expressing and dealing with emotions. And psychotherapy is actively hostile to “traditional male behavior”. Not only that but there is a very large service gap for males, much more funding and services for females.

A very limiting and deceiving statement. Simplifing sounds well, it even might work for some people, but it becomes a dystopia when claims to be universal.

@@sarahrobertson634 Thank you... This constant and needless separation of the sexes has become mind-bogglingly frustrating. Having a purpose and having respect from your peers and loved ones in your capabilities is universally crucial to all human beings' happiness. Not only that but, depression is depression and there are many nuances from person to person; not just simply "men's depression" and "women's depression." Wish more of our brothers and sisters would realize we are not so incredibly different from one another as they like to believe.

@@gswm747 Great response! I also don't agree with this separation based on gender. It's called generalization. All human beings need respect and it's actually the basis of love. To me love is made up of respect, kindness and patience. Respect is one of the components of love.

Can a healthy man love a woman without respecting her? Yikes sounds like a disastrous situation. And does this video imply that a man can happily be with a woman who doesn’t love him as long as she is respectful? Like the love part is not there and he’s fine with that?

I think people keep missing what he said initially. “IF they had to choose…” it’s about what men would prioritize & what women would. Obviously, both want & need both . He was creating the scenario of having to choose, to highlight the inherent differences between the sexes. Along with, a different approach to combating mental health issues. Again, of course both are necessary & wanted. But, like he said “if they had to choose between…”
