Hi, thank you for the informative video. I still have a small question. You said that 'There is no international court to which individuals can apply directly regarding their rights under the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.' Isn't it therefore logical for the EU to join the ECHR, so the human rights of individuals in the EU are better protected against EU regulation?

And yet another question: it is not possible for national courts to review laws of the Charter?

The accession of the EU to the European Convention on Human Rights is being discussed. The ECHR was amended to make that possible. Art.. 59 para 2 now reads: 'The European Union may accede to this Convention'. The Council of Europe and the European Commmission had already negotiated terms of the accession, but then the European Court of Justice ruled that the accession was not in line with fundamental principles of EU law. The process was stalled. Talks about EU accession have resumed some time ago, though, so EU accession to the ECHR is still an option. (I recently made a video about this, but it is in German kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2WQpJhrbtZop6s )
