Yeah I grew up without thumb slugs. They didn't have them and so I never needed them. When the thumb swelled, i would just use baby powder and when too loose i would use a rosin bag for more grip. But I'm trying to be optomistic with the modern bowling world and am thinking about trying some jo po thumb inserts. We will see.

Just slugged 3 balls today. Definitely better fitment. I was a size down with an oval slug added. Improved feel and faster release. Less squeezing.

Turbo 2 in 1 thumb slugs are the absolute worst choice,Vice has glorious clear slugs that let you out BUT Jo-Po is King of interchangables
