Please do Mexico, football is actually popular over there. It's the NFL s largest market outside the US. As far as I know they have a thriving college football scene.

I am a U Sports Football alumni; thank you for covering this. There is a ton of skill and exciting football happening at the canadian university level and I think with proper promotion it could really become an institution in Canada like it is in the US. In the last ~3 weeks there were two massive games that were decided in the last 30 seconds. Western (#1 in the country) beat Queen's (then #6 in the country) on a last second hail mary touchdown; and Ottawa beat crosstown rivals Carleton on a field goal with literally 1 second remaining on the clock in front of 22'000 people. In some smaller cities (Western in london, Queens in Kingston, Laval in QC) they already have a large and dedicated local following. It is super frustrating watching canadian sports media (both TV and newspaper) that give feature articles and promotion to NFL and US CFB, but neglect to even report on sports that are taking place in the cities that they literally live in. A big issue with getting TV broadcasting was apparently for a long time there were too many blowouts, with lots of teams being perennial powerhouses (laval, western, sask) and lots of perennial bottom feeders (york, waterloo, regina, etc.). But in the past couple years we've seen a lot more parity come about and almost all games are competitive now (except York lol). Overall, the marketing at both the U Sports and conference levels has been utterly terrible. I would love to see regularly televised games, and I think if it was available and promoted properly, a proper fan base would definitely develop. Most conferences are stuck in a loop where they don't invest and promote their athletics, and then end up surprised that no ones cares, but won't invest until they see increased interest, but no interest comes because they don't promote anything, rinse and repeat. In regards to Simon Fraser, they've always been a bit of a black sheep in both Canada and the US. They haven't done particularly well during their time in either Canada or the states. Canadian universities see them as having bailed on U Sports/CIS once already. My understanding is also that they were under funded compared to most D2 programs and playing in a D2 texas-based conference in their last season, so they were flying to the southern US for away games. Really weird set up. The school had also finally invested millions in a new stadium that just got finished to bring it up to NCAA specs, so their choice to finish this new stadium, then immediately axe the program is really strange. Its sad to see them go as they have a long history and have produced lots of CFL/NFL talent, but apparently when the program shutdown was announced, U Sports extended an offer for the program to join the Canada West conference, but SFU didn't respond. It seems like the athletics director didn't really want to save the program in any way. Would love to see a video on them in the future if you choose to make one, and same with Tavius Robinson. I played against him and the dude really is a baller. Anyways, for anyone wanting good canadian college football content @prsvre on instagram has been doing a really good job covering canadian university sports (mostly football) and is worth a follow.

I think U Sports football has made a few dumb decisions of self-inflicted wounds that have hurt the sport over the past half decade and some (getting rid of the shared venue for the Vanier and Grey Cups) and not expanding the national playoff in the light of the AUS' decade and a half of not being able to win a national semifinal. What makes American college football compelling is big time games/rivalries week after week. U Sports needs to have a Super League style system instead of having conferences being limited by geography

I got hooked on U Sports because McMaster was a better team to watch than the Ticats from 2000-2019 & even from 2021-2023 when they weren't, at least the OUA has a better variety of opponents. Now that the CFL has moved it's playoffs to Saturdays I'm pretty much checked out with that league other than the Grey Cup, but I wonder if U Sports would benefit from moving it's playoffs to Sundays?

I'd love to see you get into Japanese College football. I've been watching it regularly for the last 4-5 years. Laval is like the Alabama of USports. I first learned about USports in 2006 when I went to a culinary competition in Toronto. I was watching the Men's National Championship game for basketball and I found out that the NCAA gets more love in Canada than USports.

What's crazy is that Michigan's first ever football game outside the state of Michigan was against the University of Toronto (they played them at home the following season). Although never big Canadian university football had great tradition and support up until about midway through the 2010s when the Vanier Cup game (which had then been hosted the night before the CFL's Grey Cup championship and broadcast on TSN) went back to having seperate hosts and started streaming on the public broadcaster CBC (also the decline of the Atlantic Canadian (AUS) schools is also indicitve of this, they haven't appeared in a Vanier Cup since 2007). I think another thing that has hurt U Sports football is having conferences based on geography. The only saving grace it seems would be to form a cross national super league of teams that are serious about football and relegate the other programmes to a Division II or III-style system. Also "college" in Canada is the term we give exclusively to the institutional equivalent of two-year community colleges in the States. It's "university" or the British slang term "uni" up here lol it's not an itnerchangeable term like it is in the US

Often wonder if USports folded into the NCAA or even NAIA how that would work out for some of those schools? It'll never happen, but to think of the PAC-12 being resurrected with 6 US and 6 Canadian teams could be a thing if it happened

I would look into Mexican college football in which the largest league is called "14 Grandes" (Big 14) in an organization called ONEFA. I've spent some time in both Mexico City and Monterrey and the large college teams seem to be pretty popular amongst students and alumni of those schools (I have many friends studying at schools in both cities). There is a rule where every few years the worst preforming team from the Big 14 gets relegated into a lower ONEFA league while the best from the lower leagues will join the Big 14. In Mexico every college sport including football plays in its own organization unlike the NCAA or USports. As for Canada, I think Simon Fraser might get a NCAA D1 Hockey team and have that become popular before Canadian college football becomes popular, though I've never been to Canada so what do I know?

Start sending your film to schools man. Several bigger junior colleges aka community colleges with dorms would take you in for a jump start. Once there’s more film you can transfer to a big program.
