The album version sounds most natural and rehearsed. The single and ghost solo sound more “improvised”
@jaelge2 ай бұрын
Most of what we just heard were practice sessions during the filming of LIB, and George getting a feel for the song and trying to land on something Paul would sign off on.

To be honest, I think the album one (with which all of us who were not around at the time are probably most familiar with) is by far the best. It plays so perfectly with the song, amplifying its beautiful and joyous feeling. It's also significantly more climatic and much stronger-sounding than the other ones, some of which you can barely even make out the guitar in. Maybe it's because that's the one I was first familiar with, but I just don't see how any of the others can measure up.
@pahlevymuАй бұрын
Same here, i heard the album first so maybe there's bias in here. But i do agree it's more punchy and such a climatic way to end the song.

In the isolated version of the album version, you clearly hear that little octave note before the highest note of the sole. For some reason, any youtube guitar video replicating the sole omits that little note. It's clearly there at 1:44!

I'm from Australia when this came out on the radio. I bought the single and the solo sounded great! Later when the album came out, I bought that and when hearing how 'Let It Be' was remixed and with the over-powering solo, sounded inferior the the magic mix of the original.
@RobertGraziose3 ай бұрын
I feel the exact opposite. The single features Billy Preston's brilliant lick with the drums when the solo starts. My guitarist always did the album solo, oy the fights we had. Hey music is subjective. It's your cup of tea. To each his own
@RobertGraziose3 ай бұрын
I never cared for the album version. It blots out Billy Prestons organ lick when they go into the solo. It sounds pooly edited also. To each his own. My guitarist insisted we do the album version. Hey basically it wss his band so i backed off. Just my opinion.

How George got so much overdrive out of his January 4 guitar solo is something that baffles gear nerds like myself. Sure, the 100-watts Fender Twin Reverb could really get loud and crunchy, but to me, it sounds like George is either using a Fuzz Face, or running his guitar straight into through a mic preamp. What would you say?
@isolatedstems11 ай бұрын
A person named Chris Buck did a video about how that tone was achieved and it does seem like George did use a Fuzz Face to get the overdrive heard on the final record.
@elirosen139111 ай бұрын
@@isolatedstems I saw that video, and yes, the tone does soundly largely identical to what's in the video. But like most guitar enthusiasts, the thing that makes me doubt that is that George was usually one to turn his guitar up to max volume. And if you've heard a guitar in full volume with the fuzz face, you know the fuzz tends to swallow the sound up. But then again, he wasn't dealing with layers of other loud guitars on LIB or IMM. So who know? Maybe he did use the fuzz face with his guitar dialed down in volume. Makes you wish EMI had taken better notes on what equipment they used.
@darwinsayeАй бұрын
Impossible to know for sure, but that doesn’t sound like a Fuzz Face to me. It has a very prominent nasal sounding midrange I’ve never heard from a Fuzz Face. What does sound like that is the distortion circuit on the solid state Vox amps that the Beatles had used on Revolver and The White Album. They also had a multiband midrange switch that could make a very nasal sound like he has in that solo. It’s not out of the question that he may have used one of those amps for the distorted solo, because they were still around the studio, even though they had moved on to mainly using Fenders.
@elirosen1391Ай бұрын
@darwinsaye they weren't really using Vox amps anymore at that point. As for the midrangey sound, George might have shelved the Mid and Treble EQ controls to get that nasally sound.
@_-_Michael_-_Ай бұрын
That with Twin has to be Fuzz Face with gain somewhere in middle it’s decent “overdrive” type of sound. This Lennon used it a lot also, since they are getting this type of tones from Twin, they were sure not cranking them that much up.
@LinkStorm88Ай бұрын
By this stage George is so unrestrained with his solos, his contributions have a signature sound, and he's regularly jamming with the most renowned guitarists in the world at the time. To say "height of his powers" is not unreasonable. This is after "while my guitar gently weeps". And they take this brilliant example, which heightens the rest of a classic track, and hide it behind nonsense in the single... utterly criminal. Love the album version.

Third time was a charm for George. First live solo is bad. Single version is okay/passable. But the album release version is perfection. The Naked alt. version is pretty cool, too.

@Hayden1969-ws4vy7 ай бұрын
IDK if this is true, but according to Ian McDonald in his book 'Revolution In The Head' the single and album solos were meant to be played together, presumably one coming from the left speaker and the other from the right. I wonder if anyone has tried to overlay one on top of the other to see if they match?
@isolatedstems7 ай бұрын
The original stereo album mix actually does have both solos playing. The April "single version" solo can be heard in the left channel. Although I'm not sure if it was intentionally done as it's sorta buried.

I like the one on the album I'm not crazy about Phil spector production I think george martin given time would have made a better version but no one wanted to go thrue the miles of tape and they had a contract to release one more album in the 70s so they sent it to Phil but paul never signed and one of John's interviews he said paul was probably Wright all along so take from that what you will but paul said in many interviews he didn't want to sue the others but in order to get rid of cline he had to.

@kingkachow88886 ай бұрын
Yeah, I concede that I like the studio album's soloes the best, but what if they released a version with *all* the soloes included? Like, put the single & 27b takes in, then boost the ghost solo so one can hear it clearer? I think it may yield something akin to Robert Fripp's guitar parts on "Heroes:" he did three takes that all worked the best when they played them together. What are your thoughts? Can it be done?
