This series of video's are from my mothers closet, and represent a lot of history in bluegrass music. I have decided to post these videos to the cloud to preserve the history. Should there be any copyright issues, I may have to make them private. Enjoy!

My Grandad was originally from Kentucky - and he was so good at spinning yarns. Mitch reminds me of Grandad's dry-as-dust, sideways sneak-up-on-you humour. Just love him. Especially his intro to "Blue" - on their "Live - Almost" album. I first heard that when I was about 18 or so (1967) - and have just loved them ever since. One of the best things - they wrote their own stuff - and it became iconicly classic. Most folks who hear "The Old Home Place" or "Dooley" - think those are trad tunes. But - no. The Dillards wrote them - along with "There Is A Time" and so many others . . .

Luckily, I had the chance to play with various Dillard members... some of Dirt band. . My own band, the Cross Creek band...long defunct. The name was pilfered by some very bad musicians. Any who God bless u Rodney...if you read this give me a call. I will be in Mo. down the road from u, love to see u.

Does anyone know if The Dillards ever play the Grand Old Opry? If so, I'd sure love to see a video of their appearance.

The first tune (an instrumental) is "Dixie Breakdown", written and recorded first by the great Don Reno, but many learned it in the style of Doug Dillard. Check out this older version from their live album. The boys might have slowed it down just a little in the video, but it still kicks. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3iop6yQprCbfaM

Saw the Dillards in a small folk club in Buena Park, CA, in about 1965. Rodnry played the dumbest guy you've ever seen. It was a great show, and I remember it so fondly, 55 years on. Thanks to the Dillards for stayin' true to Ozark bluegrass, and to the guy who posted this terrific music!
