The Dirdir by Jack Vance; book review

The Dirdir is the third book in the tetralogy (tetralogy is my new word of the day) from Vance's 'Tschai, Planet of Adventure'. An action packed, fast action story in the old Edgar Rice Burroughs Barsoom tradition. The first two in the tetralogy are;

Another fine review m8, you’re not wankhing around! Personally I love Jack Vance too and just finished his Houses of the Iszm, which was a good action-detective-scifi short story. The only downside to Vance is that his stories often go into what I call “lawyer time,” where the action grinds to a halt while a committee or council argues some point in protracted legalistic terms. Just started my first Leiber book, Swords Against Deviltry. The writing is decidedly more lurid and pornographic, with oiled stripper shows. It’s quite the jump in tone!

Thank you for watching and commenting! Vance never, ever disappoints. The more I read of his work the more I want. I don't think Planet of Adventure actually ever falls into 'lawyer time' - great description btw - there are small hints of it, but never extensive.

@@OmnivorousReader That's great! My favorite works of his have zero lawyer time: Ulan Dhor and The Miracle Workers. I'm collecting the Amazon print on demand books by Spatterlight Press
