Live perfomance mixes have come such a long way in the last decade and it's excellent to see. If I ever get back into sound engineering & running a desk in studio or concert, I hope I can keep up the new bar of incredibly tight and balanced mixes & masters that engineers have been pumping out over the last 6 or 7 years as the old guard have finally stepped down and appointed talented fresh blood that have a better grasp on the technology & access to better gear & environments.

Imma do u a favor a bring u back to this brilliant performance lol. I'm also a drummer and I'm curious if others have noticed the same as me. That is, every time I've listened to this, I feel like the drums, esspecially those beautiful fills and accents, makes this entire solo so much better. To the point where while Leo's talent can't be denied, but the musical performance is equally, if not more, on the drummer. Edit: More or less, do you (or anyone else) feel the same about the drums here? Like the more I listen the more I'm blown away.

@Whiteythereaper Жыл бұрын
@XmanAdanacLax I said the same when I first started getting this recommended to me last year. The symbiosis of Sax & drums throughout this solo really elevate both, the kit is mixed really great for a live mix and has a nice timbre to it within the rest of the band which is still somewhat rare to see with recordings, it's very well done

It was a "late night prom" so it was a bit looser but there were a lot of people who stuck around from the classical prom earlier and had their minds blown (myself included). The BBC coverage was so sneering towards Leo P it really annoyed me when I re-watched it, though they did make the fair point that Charles Mingus (the prom being a tribute to him) would've probably wanted to thump him!
@hydroknight012 жыл бұрын
@@swalsh91 He had the crowd on their feet, in fairness to him. The Proms is usually pretty tame, prim-and-proper, but Leo had them mesmerised and they just went along for the ride. Music is *supposed* to take you away like that, and jazz especially! It flows from and speaks to the soul.
