As a Viking fan, it was clear to me Vikings were the obvious other choice for Dorktown NFL team. Ever since 7 year old me cried when Gary Fucking Anderson decided to miss, they've been an intriguing, if not infinitely frustrating team. And they were even more tortured before I was born. In some ways, it was the more obvious story, and I think they did well to avoid it. Sidenote, the Suns will be the NBA team of choice if/when they visit the NBA.
@hbdragon883 жыл бұрын
@@pwndnoob4937 you think the Suns would be the most interesting/cursed NBA team to have a multi-part series? Hmm. I mean at least they've had a couple of Finals appearances and the 7SOL team with Mike D'Antoni and Steve Nash. But a Dorktown series wouldn't be a "Collapse" or "Untitled" episode, so it's not all fails and close calls. I kinda wonder if the Clippers would be a good subject. mostly though they've just been straight awful for 30 years (draft busts, Sterling's interference, etc.). I'd love to see some deep dives into their 2006 playoffs run and Lob City onwards (maybe a Collapse episode?), not sure if it would be a Dorktwon series though.

Obviously, 1998 was a special year for the Falcons since that was when they first made it to the Super Bowl. However, there is one thing that the 1998 Falcons did that still amazes me, because I have never seen another team do it. They were playing the Saints (and I don't remember if the game was in ATL or NO), but they took the 2nd half kickoff and drove the ball down the field 80 yards for a touchdown. Almost all of the plays were Jamal Anderson runs. The Falcons then kicked off, and the Saints finally got the ball for the first time in the 3rd Qtr with JUST 2:30 REMAINING! Think about that! You're the Saints, and you don't get the ball in the 2nd half until almost the start of the 4th Qtr! WOW, just amazing.

I was a snot nosed elementary schooler living in Wyoming when the Broncos were hot in the late 90s. All I remember about Elway is that I liked the name. Everyone was talking about him, I have a distinct out-of-context memory of his name being written on the board by a teacher. When the '99 super bowl happened, everyone was thrilled, and I was thinking, "good for the Broncos, good for John Elway."

The Atlanta Falcons may not have won Super Bowl XXXIII, but at least one of their own was a champion that year: Bill Goldberg, University of Georgia graduate and former Falcons defensive tackle from 1992-1994, reigned as the World Heavyweight Champion of Atlanta-based World Championship Wrestling from July 6 to December 27 of 1998, the apex of his now-legendary year-and-a-quarter long undefeated streak.

I’m a Vikings fan in Minnesota but was also raised a Broncos fan by my dad who’s from Colorado. The 1998 season is so weirdly conflicting for that reason, but as heartbreaking as the Vikings loss was it still came to a satisfying end in the Super Bowl. The Broncos were just finishing off the Falcons like the Vikings couldn’t, and after going through the playoffs expecting to face the Vikings at the end of it, they got to have a little fun with a team that really shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
@MrMisties Жыл бұрын
That is the best way to put it, the Falcons put their all in a David vs Goliath story for the championship game. Then, completely exhausted and beaten down they would have had to beat yet another Goliath. My frustration isn't even fully with my Vikings not going to the Superbowl, I felt like we had been robbed of possibly one of the greatest Superbowls ever and were instead given the Broncos playing around with a chewtoy for 60 minutes.

@@MrMistiesOne issue I see with Minnesota if they played Denver though: Their run defense might’ve been questionable if they lost to Atlanta and Tampa Bay, and that run defense would’ve faced Terrell Davis, and a very good zone blocking offensive line scheme. They still could’ve easily put up a closer game than Atlanta did, but I don’t know if they’d win because of that matchup.

This series along with your Mariners one are honestly some of the most astounding story-lines that I hadn't the faintest idea had existed and has added so much to my enjoyment of sports. Some of the best laughs and most magical moments (I still re-watch Blowers' pre-game home run prediction). It has definitely made me really appreciate the underappreciated teams and magical moments they have. Now that I actually look out for those types of things so far I've noticed how the Bears seem utterly unable to have anyone successfully throw a football for them, how the Twolves and Kings could have assembled a superteam from their missed draft choices over the last 20ish years (let alone the combination of narcissism and delusion by their front offices to believe in their own utterly terrible decisions), the Clippers entire existence and how for the longest time the best thing they had going for them was their announcer, the Vikings numerous ups and downs, and why there is a team called the Jazz playing in a place that could only be described as the literal absence of jazz music. I also think that an entire history of the Sixers might be a really good one to consider for a next in depth one. They've got so many ups and downs, from Wilt's struggles as his entire team vs a perennial superteam of hall of famers in the Celtics, how they put it together to finally win one, the ensuing collapse afterwards, the Dawkins years, the Dr J years, Moses Malone's arrival, Barkley and Malone early years, Barkley forcing his way out and them collapsing again, the AI years, them re-inventing the idea of a collapse with the process, then missing on so many picks with the only one that has truly worked (ie a top 5 pick producing a player actually involved in the MVP conversation) being a guy who spent his first two years so injured that people literally had no idea what to expect when Embiid finally played. Plus in Philly you have a team and city constantly at odds with their own organization (can we forget their GM creating burner accounts solely to talk shit on their own players), but where they somehow are unwavering in their love for the team (albeit often showing that love with a chorus of boos). I say all this and I'm not even a Sixers fan I just think they're a fascinating look into how beautifully illogical the human psyche can become when there is a passion for sports. Anyway love these series to the point that I look forward to these more than any movie or tv show release! Thanks for taking the time to do these, I can only imagine how much time it would take to put these together.
