Saw that documentary and thought "who is this insignificant Dr Yo questioning Campbell's many decades of scientific research"? Then saw that he is funded by big pharma- enough said!!!

Dr Yo seems to think plant based dies don't cure cancer? How about all the deaths under-reported by the so-called health professionals using chemo, radiation, surgeries and drugs to treat cancer. Dr Yo did not give a balanced approach to his findings, did not ask any cancer patients themselves how they are doing by eating a plant-based diet. Think he prefers to eat meat.

Insignificant? Wtf are you talking about? You don't need a PhD to ask questions, of anyone, about anything ever. Dr Campbell should comfortably be able to answer any question put to him without feeling above it. Big pharma? 😂 the usual comeback, what about the massive financial interests in plant food companies? American heart association funded from the start by garbage seed oil producers like procter and gamble. This man defends himself instead of answering the question, making it personal only and not scientific. You insult the person making an enquiry and avoid the topic to cover your ass.

Funny, I watched the BBC documentary two nights ago and was really, really shocked with how Dr. Campbell was portrayed. It was like the narrator was trying to say there were limitations in Dr. Campbell's study....which there are in ALL studies. And that was the only thing he could focus on. The other two examples used in the documentary had clear lack of research supporting their claims, Dr. Campbell was building a case for the interference of animal based protein at a time where there was no evidence. It's not his fault if the academic community doesn't want to try to replicate his enormous study or try to test it different ways...they're too busy being paid by Sanofi to do genetics research instead. Terrible documentary BBC.

@SmokeMonster7 жыл бұрын
Debunked by whom? It has never been "debunked' by independent peer-reviewed scientists. Bloggers, KZbinrs, and newspapers have all taken stabs at it, but the science stands firm. The "China Study" is just the book that summarizes hundreds of studies, so "debunking" it would require disproving an entire facet of cancer epidemiology. Since its publication, there have been hundreds of studies investigating the links between animal protein and various cancers. Nutritional science upholds the central thesis of China Study; that the consumption of animal proteins cause various cancers.

A misnomer of a title if there ever was one. LOL. Campbell got so tired of being knocked down that he finally gave up and said on camera, (paraphrasing) "My current beliefs are not based solely on the China Study". Good thing considering he ignored the high correlation between higher wheat consumption and poor health. Not to mention he threw out the data that showed very high meat consumption communities were in better health than neighbors in the same region. Just like the meat-eating Maasai are bigger, stronger, and healthier than their farming neighbors, the Kikuyu.

Absolutely typical BBC. I did see that programme at the time, but it was way before I started my own research and my own whole-food plant-based journey. I couldn’t possibly have said who was interviewed on the programme or that there was lack of integrity, or a hidden agenda. Once you start to learn about these things, the truth starts to emerge. I’ve watched Dr. Yeo on “Trust me, I’m a doctor” and thought he was OK but I have now stopped watching these quasi-medical programmes (“The truth about... dieting, drugs,” etc and other programmes about dieting and health) because I can now recognise a lot of nonsense being pushed. There’s too much drug company and food manufacturing company money behind these people to get an honest opinion. This mainstream stuff is misleading gullible people (as I once was) and it’s disgusting. There’s no money in pushing broccoli and potatoes and that’s why we never get the truth from these people. Seeing this video today, I am disgusted that Dr. Yeo should have treated this absolute giant in the biomedical research world with such disdain. To coin a modern phrase, and said with great feeling, “How dare you!” Another reason to defund the BBC.

We humans use heuristics, short cuts, in our thinking. Using our current beliefs, values, education, upbringing, culture, in our evaluations, means we use interpreted observations rather, than the observations themselves. Our thoughts based on interpreted observations are second hand and not based on first principles. Following past evaluations rather than using a fresh look at the facts can make us dishonest with ourselves, and subsequently also with others. Giles Yeo is just another human being lacking this insight requiring an honest look at the human thinking controlling human behaviour. Insisting on using short cuts, we cannot observe holistically and we cannot see the forest for the trees. Campbell pushed the limitations of science by being open and honest with himself. Giles Yeo currently does not have that maturity. As Einstein said: Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them. Giles has accepted the human limits of thinking yet, like many scientists unfortunately. The problem of acceptance of the plant based diet, the answers to our wars and domestic conflicts, the problem of insufficient response to the threat of climate change, the lack of understanding cancer and heart disease causality and hence treatment, lies in our human thinking. We cannot solve problems at the same level of thinking that we were at when we created those problems - Einstein.

Ever notice what commercials get slapped on Plant-Based videos, will be people who look thin, promoting everything that is not Plant-Based!?! Such that is the antithesis of the content of videos acts like a rebuttal that you cannot click past till you get an earful of the popular tripe.This occurs in the reporting on acid attack victims so you will get Muslims promoting charity to the children of Yemen so you think that the animosity of those throwing acid are not good representatives of their group and you will continue to just think that the perpetrators being exclusively from Muslim majority countries with Islamic surnames, are not carrying out their own form of jihad. Such is the level of the propaganda machine. If there is truth being told, albeit who is telling it, those who are doing the harm are being portrayed as those who are the actual victims. Fortunately “The FARCE does not work on those who see through it.” The point is that when you recognize the FARCE of modern medicine and the detriment of the SAD diet that you wake up, take charge of your life and stop being controlled. They are desperately afraid that they are losing control or the commercials would not be specifically targeting Plant-Based videos.

First of all he puts a lot of importance in having had his work published in peer reviewed journals. This does not mean much, and the quality of the journal depends on its impact factor. A recent article in the Lancet (one of the journals with the highest impact factors in te field, much higher than that where Campbell published a lot of his work), stated that eating meat increased life span relative to a vegan diet. Also, a lot of Campbell's speculations are not very rigourous. As an example the reasoning at 36:35 of this video (Campbell's interpreation of Carrol's graph) seems flawed to me: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKHVpGueesmljMU He argues that a diet with a fat concentration at the left of the x-axis intercept of the line corresponds to a plant diet. However, this clearly depends on what plants one eats (how do you a define a 'normal' plant based diet?). If you were to eat mainly avocado and nuts, you would have a much higher fat concentration than what Dr Campbell calls the 'threshold' value. Incidentally I posted this as a comment to one of Campbell's son's videos and it was deleted... not a very healthy approach.... So I believe the Cambridge University researcher did a good job to raise questions about Campbell's work.

I stopped paying the license fee that funds the BBC a few years back. The BBC is not what it was (if it ever was). I just cut out live TV from my life. It is fun to watch the rest of the world catch up with the fact that the BBC largely suck now. Still good stuff. Radio 3 etc.

So I looked up the doctor (Dr. Giles Yeo) who did the interview. Recently he went vegan for 1 month (see article here - inews.co.uk/opinion/comment/vegan-diet-food-healthy-effects/) And his results were "So what happened at the end of the month? Well, I had no micronutrient deficiencies, but I did end my vegan experience 10 pounds lighter, with a 12 per cent drop in my blood cholesterol levels." And he now calls himself a "flexitarian" and eats much less meat.

In an honest effort, to make this stuff, as simple and clear as possible, youtube "Processed People Extended Talks". Then scroll through, until you find the 12 minutes of Caldwell Esselstyn.

Look at Campbell. Look at his fingers first ... they are gnarled from arthritis. You can see this at 5:40 spot. He is also so frail and thin. In this age of toxic obesity we sometimes tend to mistake thinness for health, but they are two different things. He does not look healthy to me at all, although his mental faculties seem much above average. I read his book and there is a lot of good stuff in it. I think eating more vegetables and less or no processed food is a great idea, but I do not think, as Campbell claims, that eating meat give people cancer. That is what he claims in many documentaries. He said that when he included certain "meat" amino acids in what he fed mice he could turn on and off cancer. I think that is BS or at the very least far out of context.

Dr. Campbell, I love your work and have had your book for years. Great work and I thank you for this wonderful document to keep me healthy and on track. The Pharmaceutical companies are out for gigantic profits, not for pure health motives, as you know, so ignore those guys. We just need to keep educating people on what kind of authors to listen to.
