I don't blame you for swearing and for condemning the "work" of the local Police because they deserve it! I'm a parent and grandparent and a few years younger than Catherine SHOULD now be and I think of my own daughters and the incredible loss that I would feel if I had lost them at age 16. Its not even that the child died of cancer or due to a road accident and then they bury or cremate her but have a physical place to mourn. They have NO answer and didn't for decades while they saw their other daughters grow up, marry, have children etc etc, and the not knowing would have been like acid in their stomach every single day! Even if they KNEW that a certain person murdered their child and was charged and was in prison for life then some justice would have been served but they didn't even get a whiff of justice nor likely ever WILL get to see that. This family got NOTHING but be derided by useless men in uniform who turned away 2 loving parents who were worried about their daughter not being home when she normally would ABSOLUTELY have been and they got laughed at and those men in a uniform that they DIDN'T deserve should be ashamed of themselves. I know that some people don't have a religious faith but I do and for me I believe that the killer plus Lester the boyfriend and those officers of the law who chose to sit on their rear ends will get the punishment they richly deserve if not in this life then in the next! My deepest sympathy is extended to Catherine's family if they should ever come to read this! Thanks Steven for an impassioned episode.

Not only is it there job, but human decency also demands that they treat the family with respect and the report with professionalism and utmost diligence. If the LEOs can't be decent humans, at least they should be held to some standards as far as their job description is concerned. Thank you for doing cases like this one. This one hurt a binch. It stirred up horrible.memories from childhood. My wish is for the surviving family members to find peace.

I hear cases like this and I’m heartbroken, but my feelings won’t help anyone... We need to understand the process that left Cathy open to being a victim of Lester and Ronald. They targeted her because of her vulnerability. To me it is clear that they planned this abduction for some time. They prepared their victim and simply picked her up when they felt the time was right. If Cathy had learned how to spot a predator she may be alive today. Open venues without parental supervision are dangerous. Secretly befriending/dating older guys… dangerous. Friends aren’t friends if they keep secrets that endanger your life. Yes, it disgusts me how the police acted when her parents approached them. And yes, it pisses me off that someone didn’t have the heart and mind to intervene when they saw her being mistreated.

I **can** imagine knowing a relative did zomethinf absolutely horrible and not saying something.... because beyond your personal witness of being told, or being told someone else was told, and knowing that person likely wont tell (which makes your own evidence inadmissible hearsay) you cant prove it. And if you have a terrifyinf relative, you mught be too terrifiedto have them know you "told" on them if they arent going to prison for life eith a 200% certainty....becaise if they arent found guilty or even tried, theres a good chance they will hurt you or your loved ones. There are people who know onw of their relatives committed a rape, an assault, an armed robbery, an arson... But they cant prove it dead-bang, so they're just flat out scared to even try. The more frightening the crime was, the more frightening the criminal is. Look at how bumbling and worthless this police department was. Would you teust them with anonymous evidence that, if leaked, could lead to your own assault or murder, or the murder of a loved one? I wouldn't. I can only hope that as the case ages, someone will finally feel brave/safe enough to come forward.

The police and all the people who didn’t bother to help her are responsible for her horrible fate that she might have been saved from. They are also responsible for a lifetime of suffering of the family that these low life’s condemned them to, by robbing them of their first born and leaving them with no answers which they still don’t have.

We hope their suffering was small and that their families may have had some peace. Sadly, the people who know the truth don't get involved.,

Never mind percentages. They try to do as much as they can to be the cop they set out to be, they soon get licked into shape! ( watch the film Serpico with a young Al Pacino! Great & true film story) These cops with values & morals either leave or try elsewhere or end up caving in to pressure. What is it with cops (especially american ones) that think they don't have to search for runaways? They're not running away from the police, YOU can still search for her and make sure they're ok. If the kid doesn't want to have any contact with their family, that's fine, but it doesn't mean the police can simply refuse to do a check. If they're a runaway, find the kid, confirm they're ok, then tell the parents "we found him/her, they're safe, they don't want to interact with you guys right now". That's it. This whole excuse comes off as a bunch of yokels too lazy to do their jobs, dismissing everything with a stock excuse. No wonder trust in the police has dropped in every group except rich white conservatives.

I couldn't imagine being friends or family to anyone that knows what happen on that rez. The tribal people there that know and saw and do nothing have no pride, self-respect, and or dignity. I hope some one on the rez comes forward and brings it back.
